watching all these videos in anticipation of collecting my A35 on saturday! will be my first automatic car and my third car since i started driving and i am incredibly excited !
hello sir, for overtaking press and hold downshift to go down on proper gear for appropriate rpm and max acceleration. Just watch when youve got to upshift back to 4 or so on for the straight. I believe thats an amg thing
I tend to sit in comfort these days - doing very little driving at present, and since we just got the wife an EV ( Cupra Born V3) really impressed and using that more!
Ah, I had a bit of downtime so now I’m driving the car a lot again so have been really enjoying some more spirited drives. EVs are great for a chilled commute.
Nice Vid. I’ve been watching videos on the paddle shifting then of course you dropped the new video on it 😅. I drive Manuel now I think it’s different with paddle shifting because I’m so used to a clutch. I can’t wait till I get my AMG
Hey Adam, thanks again for another great vid, nice work as usual. It'd be great to learn more about engine braking though. It is cool thing to do but might cause some damages if not done properly? Another vid idea? Cheers, Lam.
Hey Mate, sorry for the slow reply! Crazy week here. It won't let you downshift if your going to fast which is a nice feature to keep us from damaging bits. Engine braking manually does not really put any more strain than automatic mode does in sport+ with its late gear changes and aggressive downshifts so I think it's should be ok.
Hi there and thank you for these great tips. I have the baby of the bunch the A35 on a 2020 plate. I have never owned such a lovely looking car as a Mercedes. As for as long as I can remember I have more or less been with VW……… I know it’s sad but I tend to stay in automatic in my Mercedes purely as I’m worried about messing up if and when I use the paddle shift. I worry that I might do something stupid and damage the engine if I accidentally do the wrong thing as I know some cars with paddle shifters will automatically shift up or down if the engine gets to stressed for whatever reason. Do you think I’m over worrying? Thank you
Hi Paul, the A35 is a great car :) luckily on modern cars it’s actually almost impossible to cause halm with the paddle shifters. Since the sport modes are so aggressive with the gears and the late changes the gear boxes are designed to take a lot. There’s lots of safety features also that will step in. For example if you try to downshift to a too low gear at high speed it won’t let you even in full manual mode. In the a35 the screen will flash red when you try to change gear if it’s not safe. Same if you try to go into a too high gear while going slow.
Hi Adam, I am now use to my CLA 45S regards to the paddle shifters. But I have not used slippery mode yet. Just wondering if you have used this mode and how good you think it is. And what does it do?😊
Hey Chris, Slippy mode was introduced around 2019 I think to AMG models only. It reduces power a little and keeps the gears really high. It's great for heavy rain and snow. We're quite lucky though in the CLA45s since we have 4 wheel drive traction. It's more useful in the rear wheel driven AMGs.
Am I correct in thinking that there is no way to "switch" into manual mode and you can just use the paddles to change once and the car automatically goes into manual mode? Thats how I've always done it.
This only gives you a temporary manual mode and it wont give you as much freedom. For full manual mode in AMG cars there’s a button. It’s normally a cog icon the center console. but if you don’t have a button you can do a work around in a lot of models by creating an individual drive mode. There should be an option to switch D (drive) to M (manual) in the drive config setup. Which model do you have?
you didnt told them to hold don the downshift to accelerate in the lowest possible shift to shoot forward like a rocket - or to press and hold + again to go back to Automatic driving
I’m going to cover these along with more in a specific Mercedes only paddle shifter tricks video 👍 I wanted this video to be for everyone including non Mercedes owners :)
Still loving it to be honest! I’m going to be testing a lot of different performance cars on the channel soon to see how they stack up against the 45s. I’d love to buy a second car still too if budget allows. Would love an older V8 AMG or perhaps a BMW M car to mix it up.
@@ABAUTOAMG They are a great car they have some issues with trim ect but for the price you can’t go wrong, I’m selling mine end of September I paid £58k and on carwow it’s around 49k starting bidding so I could get 51k back which isn’t bad I’ve had it just under 2 years, think I’m going to see what AMG they bring out in the new CLE range and go for one of those towards end of next year. Will be looking forwards to seeing what you like over the 45S over the next few months.
The CLE is looking to be really nice I’m hoping for a good AMG version. Bit disappointed by the engine downsizing though so the older used market is more attractive now. A used E63s could be a lot more fun and they still have one of the best interiors in my opinion.
@@ABAUTOAMG Agreed it will all depend on what AMG engine is in the CLE version but for me the CLE looks very luxurious with it being a hybrid of the C class and E class, you’re right though the second hand market is alive and the 45s and others are sought after by dealers high demand for them and others. GTBH I like having a full warranty on a car it gives great peace of mind and can avoid expensive costs.
@Happytruth I’m the same it’s a nice peace of mind having the warranty on such an expensive purchase. With Mercedes though it’s quite nice that if you buy a used AMG from a main dealer you get a 2 year warranty. This is for AMGs only. Pretty good though considering new is 3 years.
Ah! If you set up a individual drive mode in the dynamic select you should be able to set the gear mode from D (drive) to M (manual) then when you put it in individual mode it should be in full manual mode. This is the work around if you don’t have a button normally. Hopefully it works in your car.

I just got one of these cars. I'm having fun with the paddle shifter!
Nice! They are so much fun with the paddles once you get the hang of them.
I bought one on US action, cant wait for it to be delievered

Informative too.
Keep up the good work Adam.❤

You have a lot more gears, too. Check the ratios and compare to a four or five gear with a pedal clutch.

Hey there! I noticed you're in the Milton Keynes area too. Could you recommend the best dealership to check out for a new EQB? Thanks! 🚗 #CarShopping
