I never realized how confusing the numbering system in these games might be. Megaman VI to Megaman X totally looks like it's part of the exact same series. What an interesting detail 🤔
Honestly for the longest time I did actually believe Megaman X was the tenth game in the series.. How could i not considering the extra abilities you got in the classic games like the energy distributor.. Megaman X already had it. That was until the Megaman 9 and 10 came out.. I was like whaaaaa? and I also did not notice they stopped using Roman numerals at some point on the title screen.. with Megaman 8 being clear as day even goes far enough to call it out..
@@Gnidel They started to with two bosses in the first Wily level, but then they just dropped the remaining four in a row at the last Wily level. Capcom didn't know what to do with Mega Man yet at that point.
I love the Sigma fortress 1 theme. It has this melancholic feel that makes you think of the journey up to that point. It also takes a whole new meaning after Zero's death.
Totally agree. I was a little kid thinking of vengeance to honor my friend that sacrificed himself for me to save the earth. No time for games, I have to finish the job lmao
@@stripedrajang3571 Depends on your views of consciousness and life. Reploids, by definition provided by the games, are sapient and conscious. Is that not alive? Or does it have to be organic to classify as such?
@asraarradon4115 , my views? "My"? "Views"? In real life, humans doesn't have the abilities to create "life" from scratch, nor a soul. That means no ability to create conscious and emotions neither. It's a fact. A truth. Robots and androids are basically metal, wires, and plastics put together. Imagine a toaster created by people that has emotions and a soul. Megaman, Zero, Reploids, any robots, etc., are basically glorified toasters.
I’ve always touted the original X as the best SNES game in that console’s library. Gorgeous sprites, pinpoint controls, a killer soundtrack, and a buttery smooth difficulty curve. I think one of it’s other biggest draws is it has the perfect length. It’s a game that’s very easy to pickup and play through time and time again.
A Link to The Past fits in as well -- which is part of why there are randomizers that combine super metroid with zelda (go through a door in metroid, come out in Zelda; find samus upgrades in Zelda, etc).
Good to see the younger generations playing and loving this game. I was 14 when this game came out and it blew me away. It made me feel like megaman was growing with me and matured as I did. Megaman x is truly a game for the ages.
Some people have over 30 years of gaming experience, some who've even lived through every game console generation so far, many have said MegaMan X is still what they consider the best game of all time, or it's at least very high in their lists.
Mega man X is legitimately my favorite game of all time and I will never back down from that statement. I’ve played and beaten it hundreds of times at this point and every replay is a blast to do. Great music, levels, theme bosses. It’s a 20/10 for me. Could play it all day everyday
@@8-bitsarda747 So much blasphemy in this comment section. I remember getting into DMC just because the premise of "The dude who made Resident Evil made a beat em up" was high insanity at the time.
You probably DID get that heart tank the way you think, but my guess is you destroyed the tank right before it hit the last possible square you can grip onto, thus corrupting the memory lol.
Unfortunately there's no way to get the heart tank like that. You can however squeeze in front of the dozer while falling and jump up there that way. Maybe that's what you are remembering
I just beat MegaMan X, and I ran through this area multiple times for the hadouken, each time I tried doing something different, and, JUST mashing, without a charge shot to start or anything, I could just barely get the dozer destroyed in time, with a charge shot, especially the pink charge shot, I had well enough time
Oh, and what PROBABLY happened, if I had to guess, was that he had one block destroyed on the area you need to slide on, if it has one block missing you can actually still get up
Same here. I remember thinking "OK, megaman is more badass now" and then zero comes and I was like "WHO'S THIS BEAST?!" and ever since, I've always loved zero a bit more than X
@@kurosbelmont2355 Honestly Zero feels more like the main character considering he becomes the main hero in the Zero series, and has the more interesting lore.
X1 easily my favorite in the series. The weapons are all great. The music (in my opinion) was never topped. I love that the boss rematches were scattered throughout the fortress levels instead of all at once (I hate that no other game did that again).
Agreed, especially in terms of the music. Don't get me wrong, I like the soundtracks from the future games as well (most notably x6 and x7) but none of the games after this one had a soundtrack where I loved every single song in it like this one and songs like central highway and storm eagle practically occupy my head rent free 3 days of the week.
The biggest downside to me is that Chill Penguin is the required start for every run you ever do. Technically it isn't, but why *wouldn't* you want the dash right away to make the rest of the game more fun? Thankfully the other X games fix this, but it's the biggest flaw I think is in this game.
21:29 I actually loved the slowdown on the SNES when I was a little kid. As an adult, I understand why it’s doing that. As a child, I just thought it looked cool and was intentional.
I've been playing Megaman X literally my entire life (literally I was like 4 when I first played it) and it will always have a special place in my heart, I always end up coming back to it because it stands out so far above so many other games I've played, And you would be hard pressed to make me disagree with this title. Like always I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with your takes on the series, Love your work J
I remember finding your channel back when you had like 60k subscribers and seeing your mega man x reviews. And you inspired me to play all of them. It’s incredible to see how your channel has grown, love your reviews J
"I get this is the one millionth megaman x analysis and im not blowing anyone's mind here" Me: this is my first time watching a negaman x analysis and my mind IS actually blown. I haven't played em but now I want to
You know a great little graphic detail in this game? You know how X holds his chest and breathes heavily when he's at low health? In Chill Penguin's stage, he also has visible breath from the cold air.
One thing that I noticed about X1 to X3 was how X's full Buster shot started out blue, but after getting the arm upgrade it turn pink. Moving to X2 X now has the ability to dash and his full Buster shot now has a pink coloring to it, the same for X3 and I tribute this to X powering after wearing the armor.
To be fair, that's your choice. It depends on the run you are doing. As a kid prolly you go for the "coolest looking" one, but now you can choose to "max upgrades asap" the Speedrun method or hardcore method. There might be even more ways to play the game, but if you want you can always start with the penguin
Haha was just gonna comment this. Obviously it's a flaw because every X game after X1 just starts you off with the dash. Any X game just doesn't feel right if you can't dash, so many jumps are way worse to do, stages are just monumentally slower and certain attacks are basically impossible to dodge without it. People can try to explain it away but, it IS a flaw. It's why X2 is my personal favorite.
Ho man, Xtreme 2. It was priceless playing an SNES style X game with Zero with the upgrades being a combo of X5 and Mega Man and Bass upgrade mechanics. If there was another perfect X game, I'd say Xtreme 2 was it.
Man, I've been watching since all the way back when the Zero series reviews were coming out, and it's crazy to see how far this channel has come since then. The Mega Man videos are what brought me here, and it's cool to see that now we've come full circle back to X1. Your videos are great by the way, you've managed to keep me invested in reviews you post of games that I've never even played before just because of the quality of the video themselves. Keep up the great work
Really hard to pick between Storm Eagle and Flame Mammoth's songs. Thank you for making this video. Mega Man reviews was how I found your channel in the first place. Such an amazing full circle moment. Thank you. ☀🙌🏻🙏🏻☀🙏🏻🙌🏻☀
I wish I had something good to say but I really enjoy your reviews. They're incredibly well put together and I love how you give us a sample of what it's like to play it and samples of the music. I really like that. Great stuff!
I'd put X4 up there in the same quality range as X1 and Z3, the fact they got Zero so right on the first try as a melee focused character (not counting X3 as he's functionally still a Buster focused character) is pretty incredible.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 X4 is the game I always go to when I want my 'Modern X fix' That too is also a damn near perfect game. Some levels are a slog but if you 'know' how to play the game. X4 is right behind Zero 3 and X1

Kingdom Hearts is cool and all, However: -no way in hell is it an entry level game when it comes to getting into JRPGs and JRPG stories -games like DMC have a certain depth in combat, that i don't feel KH is comparable to, which is Not to say "KH is a baby game with no depth" and more to say "KH's depth comes in a very different skillset to DMC or Bayonetta"

@@JetblackJay fair enough =3= big EDIT: i first replied on mobile and also had nothing more to say lol "fair enough =3=" still stands, but i also believe that getting into Kingdom Hearts, especially the story, requires some, like... being used to JRPG anime nonsense to begin with someone who isn't into that and tries to hop straight through the series might enjoy it exclusively for gameplay (which is fair) or be entirely turned off by the wacky garbage going on all around the fun gameplay personally, i like the story and characters, and many moments are ones i like Because they're insane, but there's no shortage of KH detractors or people that just don't care

It's not bad. Was much worse back in 2006 when you had to scroll through 50 GameFAQs forum threads hoping someone answered your question (and wasn't talking out of their ass)
I started watching your channel when the X6 review came out and I was looking for high quality reviews of the entire MegaMan series, primarily the X and Zero series. Your channel was exactly what I was looking for, and I greatly enjoyed your Sonic videos as well. Though I didn't really care about his DCU videos which he did almost exclusively for almost a year. I can't believe how much this channel has grown since I joined. Keep up the good work!
As an older gamer, I wish I could imagine what its like to be someone playing a game that came out before they were born. I got Mega Man X on its release, and it was and still is my favorite Mega Man game ever! In 1993, you can only imagine my excitement for the game, as the visuals, sound, and gameplay blew me away in comparison to every game I've played up until that moment! The music especially sticks with me! And imagine this: The feeling of discovery as me and my brother found out all the game's secrets, the "perfect" way to go through the game (stage order for optimal upgrades/boss weakness exploiting). We played it so much that after a time we could get through the game with hardly any issues, memorizing patterns and where to go and how to attack bosses. On a side note you mentioned that you thought some of the bosses being super weak to certain weapons made the game too easy... that was kind of the point though. You were supposed to feel powerful after getting the upgrades! Second side note: As an 80's geek that also loved Star Wars, I always laugh at the fact that Vile is obviously just Boba Fett! HAHA! Hell, somebody should do a Mandalorian cosplay but paint the armor to look like Vile's color scheme!
I remember seeing your x review not long after it came out, and it's how I was introduced now. I obviously watch you for everything you cover now, as this was the channel that got me into DMC and others. But seeing this and realizing how long ago it was makes me even happy knowing one of my favorite channels got as big as it did.
I have a lot of respect for you and trav because you tell us your own story about games so it increases my knowledge about value of this games and their mechanics also i am big megaman fan.i am happy to know people like me exist.
When you said in your Sonic Gens video that you're done doing Sonic content for this year I didn't expected you to go back to Mega Man, it gave me a nostalgic feeling because your "All Inclusive Mega Man X Retrospective" was the reason I gave this franchise another shot after almost 10 years, and I'm very grateful for that, J I'm very excited to see you revisiting those games with the treatment they deserve with your huge quality increase in the videos Also, it's cool to see that you're still keeping the promise to giving more Mega Man content
I have watched you for awhile now and I must say you have outdone yourself. It is always exciting to see how far we grow and I like how you brought up how rpg elements changed megaman x as a whole. Great analysis
First time I ever played X was on the PSP and it easily became one of my favorite games of all time, this is a game I always come back to from time to time, never gets old
It's funny that today's your 5th MMX review birthday, because while I had no idea about this, earlier today of all days I decided to start recording Mega Man X for a review of my own. And yes, you're one of my big inspirations in this respect.

The Mega Man X series started out very strongly. I can't think of many first games in a franchise as good as this one. The fact that many still consider it their favorite in the Mega Man X series really says something. My favorite is X4, but I can see where people are coming from with calling this one their favorite.
@@edwardbrock3807 The last good X game? I disagree. X5 and X8 were pretty good too. X5, in particular, has really grown on me overtime. Take out the intrusive dialog and RNG, and it would easily rival X1 and X4 as the best in the series. As it is, it's probably my third favorite X game. X5 was actually intended as the last X game, hence why both Zero and Sigma died at the end of it. It would have made a great finale, I think.
Five years, huh? I feel old, even if I technically discovered your channel with the X6 review, and I don’t even know if it was new when I first watched it.
Having played this when it first game out as a kid, in the pre-internet days, I cannot stress how amazing hearing about that hidden hadouken special was. It seemed like an urban legend and there was no real way of confirming it without actually finding it yourself. It was an amazing meta crossover special that just seemed to good to be true that I was convinced it was something my buddy made up for like a year.
5 years ago... It's amazing to look back on stuff like this. Congratulations to all the blood, sweat, and tears you put in to make this channel a success.
Im so glad you’re redoing all the reviews, i remember watching all of the X reviews in like a week after they’d all come out, and those reviews were the main reason i played the X games, and go into the Megaman games in general, so thank you, J
20:49 - 21:09 always satisfying😂 But jokes aside when I compare this review to the old one , I realize how much your reviews has improved 👍 continue the great job 👍
My favourite game growing up as a kid. Now over 25 years later I’m able to share it with my son and he loves it too. Shows how timeless this game really is that it holds up today despite all the advancements in technologies.
Always loved X1 meta narrative. On the mainside is just stopping Sigma. But under tells a story of how X can live up to Zero and eventually surpass him.
In armored armadillo stage you don’t have to kill the mechanaloid to get the heart upgrade. All u gotta do is slide down the wall to the right. Fall in front of it and dash until u reach the heart before the mechanaloid destroys the wall.
I'd say X1 would be perfect if the leg parts were in the intro stage. I know all the he levels are playable without them but they all feel like a drag without the dash. I'd pick any other stage first but I just feel like the game is too slow without the dash. Also most of the upgrades require it so not getting it only invites more backtracking.
Never heard of you before and I just randomly found this video but I'm excited to watch it because I agree with the title, this has been my favorite game for like 22 years I had it when I was a child special to me and I know that if it's also your favorite game then you'll do it justice in this video. I'm glad you made this and I'm glad I found your Channel Edit: did me proud I loved the video you really highlighted my favorite parts of the game and reminded me why I love it so much. I was just playing yesterday
I love this channel and biggest thing I want would be for you to do a better look at ZX and ZX advent many people including me agree that they deserve a better look from you.
20:42 While the special weapons are broken in a sense that they make the bosses extremelly trivial, I'm actually gonna defend them, since the way I see it is that the developers wanted you to experiment with the game and discover wich special weapon is the weakness for each boss, and sure, you could just look up a guide and already know each of the bosses weaknesses before even starting the game, but if part of the fun of these games is replay and get better at them, then why would the bosses weaknesses be an exception for this, the game rewards the player's curiosity and experimentation by giving them an easier time with the bosses I'll draw a Sonic comparison, if you go through the special stages and get all 7 chaos emeralds, the game rewards you with super Sonic witch completely breaks the game in half, but then what's the point of going through well designed stages and bosses if you can't be damaged by any enemy, can one shot almost anything on screen (with the exception of bosses) and go through the stages at an even faster speed not letting you enjoy the level design as much with only the press of a button? Sure, you could say that Super/Hyper Sonic is optional and you could go through the game without using it a single time, but so are the special weapons in megaman games, you don't need to use them to beat the bosses, you could go through the entire game not using them, you would be missing some upgrades, but most of them you don't need to use them, so because of that, even if they break the bosses, I personally don't have a problem with them
The MMX equivalent of Super Sonic is the Hadouken, not boss weapons. It was bad design to let you easily stunlock bosses with the weapon they're weak to. There should have been more bosses that would lose certain attacks or defenses like how the boomerang cripples Flame Mammoth and Launch Octopus, although it should take more than three hits so they still have a chance to use their full abilities early in the fight.
@@tartrazine5 *"The MMX equivalent of Super Sonic is the Hadouken, not boss weapons."* However, unlike Super Sonic, either the Hadouken or Boss Weapons don't make you invincible, so those still don't remove difficulty. *"It was bad design to let you easily stunlock bosses with the weapon they're weak to."* Why? as Gustavo said prior, it rewards curiousity. Why should said reward be tarnished like this?. *"although it should take more than three hits so they still have a chance to use their full abilities early in the fight."* And make it so casuals cannot beat the game? No thanks!. If you really want difficulty, then do a Buster-only run.
The All-Inclusive Mega Man X Retrospective was honestly what introduced me to your channel. I remember watching your X6 video around the time it originally came out and then watching the older Mega Man X videos afterward. I believe you also introduced me to Retropolis Zone too. Since then, I've been watching your reviews of the game series that I enjoyed, including the Zero series and the Sonic series. It's hard to believe that it's already been over four years. Thank you for making such amazing content. Seriously, whenever I see a new video from you, I watch it as soon as I can.
Great video! I feel it touches on everything that makes the game great and why it's still so satisfying to play to this day. One thing I wish you included were the little Easter eggs hidden in the game such as cutting off Flame Mammoth's trunk and Launch Octopus's tentacles if you used Boomerang Cutter against them. Anyway love all your Megaman X videos keep it up!
Great review of one of my most played games. I'm surprised you didn't show case Spark Mandrill's Stage theme though, as it is hands down one of the best when it comes to the soundtracks.
I remember when I first started to get into mega man, I found your channel when you had around 50k subs. I watched your mmx videos, I really enjoyed them and decided to try out the X series, I was only starting to get into the classic series back then. And then I started watching your other stuff like your Sonic videos, or your Zelda videos. And watching this kinda gives me some nostalgic feelings, even if I wasn't there when you first posted those mmx videos back in 2016. This has truly become one of my favorite channels over the years, and I'm glad it got as big as it did. Thanks for making these videos, and best of luck to you J!
My favorite part of this game (subject to change) is when you step into that room with Vile in his Ride Armor with a fully charged pink buster shot, he charges you, you loose it, and he just fucking tanks it. It's so fun for me to put up a fight against Vile when there's no possible way for me to win.
Sometimes I forget that J is only 4-6 years old than me and that he started youtube when he was so young and has gotten so far at this point. It helps me out knowing that just because I'm young doesn't mean I don't have an impact.
Im glad to hear that in 2015 and probably still today there are people playing mmx fornthe first time, def a game that means a lot to me along with pokemon, the music in this game just makes me feel good.
This game woke my soul up when I was a kid this game is Godly the amount of things you can do blow my mind I still haven't found a game that even compares to This When zero rushed in to save Mega Man X It blew me away this will always be my favorite game ever :)
I played this game back in 1995 at a tender age of 4 since my birthday is so late in the year. The final boss was a bit too hard for me at the time so I don't remember beating the game until I was like 8 or 9. I turn 31 next month and it's still one of my absolute favorite games ever, and that's with me owning both the Series X and the PS5. Everything you said about the game is spot on, and the soundtracks are *amazing.* This soundtrack made me discover what awesome things a guitar can do and the huge nostalgia rush whenever I randomly get the urge to hear them or a lot of the fan made remixes just make this game completely a timeless classic for me. Amazing review.
I remember when X came out, it really was revolutionary on so many different levels. I kept renting it from the rental store until my parents finally decided to just buy it. I could say a lot about this game, but I agree, it's one of the best games of all time, especially taken in its original context.
Honestly, this game was also the biggest inspiration for my father in introducing me to Newgrounds for fun great flash games. I've gotten a chance to actually play it on the Wii via virtual console though.
Well done. MegaMan X is my favorite game of all time for the same reasons. It’s beyond nostalgia, though I’m an old guy that has followed the Blue Bomber since the release of MegaMan 2. It’s the platforming and cool, yet simplistic stories, that I love.
The songs at the ending are really something else. I remember back when I still was a child, after beating Sigma for the first time... I was enthralled with the whole scene. And those songs are still playing in the back of my mind every now and then. Just when I thought it all was done for, we are presented with another dialog that hints how this is not the end. Oh, the thrill. One of the best games ever. Period.
For the armored armadillo. Try dash jumping forwarding holding forward while spamming the jump button. Your hand acts as an extension of your feet as a wall jump.
When I was a massive mega Man fan, this channel was one of my favorites to watch, with the mega Man X reviews definitely being my favorites. I really liked the x6 and 7 ones with how funny they were. Heck, I think the mega Man x retrospective was one of the reasons I got the 1st X legacy collection. And now that each video got a remake is really cool, as now I can get a clearer understanding on how you felt, and now feel about each of these games. I really like the first 4 x games (as I never played the others) and it was really fun watching these remakes of the old videos I loved.
Nailed everything I noticed and loved about X1, one thing tho, when entering storm eagles ship, the clouds in the background move down signifying the ship is moving upwards and then going up as the ship crashes.
Excellent video. I admit i'm not fond of every video on the channel but this one is a real winner for describing why X1 is such a landmark game in this series and why it holds up masterfully, well done.
TBH when I play the intro stage I never pay attention to these details I just play it. But yeah Mega Man X is also one of my favorite games of all time I played it countless times. I love that game.
I started playing the X series when I was 4, along with Mortal Kombat and Sinic 3D Blast. Since then after 27 years I've finally played all 8 X games, and am decent in Mortal Kombat😅. Congrats on all of your hard work and success. I'm proud to be a part of the MegaMan Community😁
I wish I could have played the X series sooner, Capcom never ported it to the Genesis and I never had access to a SNES til 4 years ago. I can't wait for the rest of the re-reviews, the original reviews are some of my favorite on the channel and I'm interested to see if your opinion has changed over time.
I remember playing this at a Funcoland when I was a teenager and fell in love with it. I played the OG as a kid, but this game was leaps and bounds better and more advanced. I still have the SNES games in storage all these years later.
Been an avid fan of your DCAU retrospective. Was pleasantly surprised to get this video recommended to me on my feed. Mega Man X still stands in my top 5 games of all time, even all these years later.
I discovered these games thanks to your original reviews, Megaman I couldn't get into for the longest time. I played the first 3 games on an emulator had a ton of fun with them. The first one always had something that stuck with me the most, that I can't put my finger on. I bought the Legacy collection later on and played 1 through 8, and they stuck out even more for the incredibly fast paced gameplay with great controls and bosses, and a really goods story(futuristic/semi futuristic settings are my thing). X is a game I could play multiple times over and not get tired of it
I never realized how confusing the numbering system in these games might be. Megaman VI to Megaman X totally looks like it's part of the exact same series. What an interesting detail 🤔

@@oliverdriver3424 Yep, that's right. Good old times where you replayed a game dozens of times...
Mega man X is legitimately my favorite game of all time and I will never back down from that statement. I’ve played and beaten it hundreds of times at this point and every replay is a blast to do. Great music, levels, theme bosses. It’s a 20/10 for me. Could play it all day everyday
You know you've got a special RUclipsr when you're glad to listen to them talk about a game in a series you've never played *:・゚✧
You never played it? You definitely should tho! It's pretty dope!
Go play it bro. It's amazing.
Also, make sure that you will DEFINITELY play X4 too. That game is amazing.
hey, he's the reason I picked up DMC3
@@8-bitsarda747 So much blasphemy in this comment section. I remember getting into DMC just because the premise of "The dude who made Resident Evil made a beat em up" was high insanity at the time.
You probably DID get that heart tank the way you think, but my guess is you destroyed the tank right before it hit the last possible square you can grip onto, thus corrupting the memory lol.
Unfortunately there's no way to get the heart tank like that. You can however squeeze in front of the dozer while falling and jump up there that way. Maybe that's what you are remembering
You get ahead of the bulldozer thingy and grab it, or with boomer kuwanger's weapon if you're patient enough.
I managed to beat the tank in time without a rapid fire controller and without the fire weapon. I was a split second away from failure though
I just beat MegaMan X, and I ran through this area multiple times for the hadouken, each time I tried doing something different, and, JUST mashing, without a charge shot to start or anything, I could just barely get the dozer destroyed in time, with a charge shot, especially the pink charge shot, I had well enough time
Oh, and what PROBABLY happened, if I had to guess, was that he had one block destroyed on the area you need to slide on, if it has one block missing you can actually still get up
Seeing Zero come in and blast that arm off made me and my friends hype. Got this game as my birthday present as a kid.
Same here. I remember thinking "OK, megaman is more badass now" and then zero comes and I was like "WHO'S THIS BEAST?!" and ever since, I've always loved zero a bit more than X
It happened in the video as i read this °_°
@@kurosbelmont2355 Honestly Zero feels more like the main character considering he becomes the main hero in the Zero series, and has the more interesting lore.
X1 easily my favorite in the series. The weapons are all great. The music (in my opinion) was never topped. I love that the boss rematches were scattered throughout the fortress levels instead of all at once (I hate that no other game did that again).
I agree
Agreed, especially in terms of the music. Don't get me wrong, I like the soundtracks from the future games as well (most notably x6 and x7) but none of the games after this one had a soundtrack where I loved every single song in it like this one and songs like central highway and storm eagle practically occupy my head rent free 3 days of the week.
I agree. Not only is X1 my favorite Megaman game, it is one of my favorite games in general.
Such a great game.
You just summed up why MMX1 is one of my favourite MMX games along with X2-X5, Command Mission and X8!
Same.
With that last point: Both X and Classic Mega Man don't want to fight per se, both are just willing to.
"I get this is the one millionth megaman x analysis and im not blowing anyone's mind here"
Me: this is my first time watching a negaman x analysis and my mind IS actually blown.
If you do X6, I'd love for you to mention the X6 Tweaks mod (and not just because I helped out on the new art assets! XD).
X6 mods? How and where? Lol
HMMMMMMMMMMM
@@pizzahighfive2612 seems like the last two replies I made were deleted. Patch is easily searchable online
He did it!
The whole "You gotta do the snow stage first" thing keep it from being perfect imo, but still a banging game.
To be fair, that's your choice. It depends on the run you are doing. As a kid prolly you go for the "coolest looking" one, but now you can choose to "max upgrades asap" the Speedrun method or hardcore method. There might be even more ways to play the game, but if you want you can always start with the penguin
yeah thankfully i coincidentally picked chill penguin on my first playthrough
Valid, just because the dash is such a big deal no matter how much I don't want to fight Chill Penguin first I'll always do it
@notmiSCares yes. Who's exactly threatened by a penguin. They got us using human instincts lmaoo
5 years? Damn, time sure flies. If you ever decide to return to the other X games, I know a guy who can help with Xtreme 2.
Ho man, Xtreme 2. It was priceless playing an SNES style X game with Zero with the upgrades being a combo of X5 and Mega Man and Bass upgrade mechanics. If there was another perfect X game, I'd say Xtreme 2 was it.
Wow, I never caught on to the RPG inspiration of MMX and its upgrades until you mentioned it! That's really cool.
Thank you. ☀🙌🏻🙏🏻☀🙏🏻🙌🏻☀
No love for Spark Mandrill???? 😢
Don’t have to. The best song is the Password Theme
Congratulations on your RUclips journey. I appreciate your commitment to the craft. Looking forward to the next video
I wish I had something good to say but I really enjoy your reviews. They're incredibly well put together and I love how you give us a sample of what it's like to play it and samples of the music. I really like that. Great stuff!
I almost agree, but I'd say Zero 3 is the Pinnacle of Mega Man gaming. Mega Man X definitely the 2nd best easily
I always argue with myself about which is better after my annual replays lol.
Nah X7 is where it's at. The slow gameplay, atrocious voice acting and needing to unlock X is the definitive Megaman experience.

Congrats on hitting 100k subs, J! Keep up the fantastic work!
If your getting their final fantasy pixel remasters I recommend the 4th 5th and 6th game because active time battle makes Turn based combat fun relying on your reflexes memory also if you like Devil May cry I recommend kingdom hearts it's Devil May cry but of the RPG genre
Kingdom Hearts is cool and all, However:
-no way in hell is it an entry level game when it comes to getting into JRPGs and JRPG stories
-games like DMC have a certain depth in combat, that i don't feel KH is comparable to, which is Not to say "KH is a baby game with no depth" and more to say "KH's depth comes in a very different skillset to DMC or Bayonetta"
@@Vee_Sheep not exactly kingdom hearts is entry level jrpg the first game I was talking about kingdom hearts 2 when I mean it plays like Dmc and bayonetta drive forms reaction commands and abilities make the game fluid Kingdom hearts 1 is story with simple gameplay kingdom hearts 2 is gameplay that's on Dmc 3 level with a good story
@@JetblackJay fair enough =3=
big EDIT: i first replied on mobile and also had nothing more to say lol
"fair enough =3=" still stands, but i also believe that getting into Kingdom Hearts, especially the story, requires some, like... being used to JRPG anime nonsense to begin with
someone who isn't into that and tries to hop straight through the series might enjoy it exclusively for gameplay (which is fair) or be entirely turned off by the wacky garbage going on all around the fun gameplay
personally, i like the story and characters, and many moments are ones i like Because they're insane, but there's no shortage of KH detractors or people that just don't care
@@Vee_Sheep I firmly disagree with KH not being a great entry level point for JRPGs, mainly due to it being one of the first JRPGs I got into. Without it, I wouldn't have give much of a shot towards other JRPGs.
@@Vee_Sheep People love to say "batshit anime nonsense" but hail the 20 different convoluted simultaneous plots and confusing character motivations from stuff like Game of Thrones and Star Wars like that's braindead simple lol. Honestly maybe as a 10 year old in 2006 KH was confusing, but if you're a 20 year old in the year 2021 with numerous wikis/"Explained" videos at your disposal if you have any question at all? It's not bad. Was much worse back in 2006 when you had to scroll through 50 GameFAQs forum threads hoping someone answered your question (and wasn't talking out of their ass)
I don’t blame you for loving this game so much! Especially the soundtrack!
17:20 A Charged Shotgun Ice will give you just enough height to reach that Heart Tank
When you said in your Sonic Gens video that you're done doing Sonic content for this year I didn't expected you to go back to Mega Man, it gave me a nostalgic feeling because your "All Inclusive Mega Man X Retrospective" was the reason I gave this franchise another shot after almost 10 years, and I'm very grateful for that, J
I'm very excited to see you revisiting those games with the treatment they deserve with your huge quality increase in the videos
Also, it's cool to see that you're still keeping the promise to giving more Mega Man content
Seeing as Sonic and Megman have teamed up on multiple occasions, it sorta makes sense lol.
When X came out, the NES had 5 games and the gameboy had 4 so I thought it really was Megaman 10.
I have watched you for awhile now and I must say you have outdone yourself. It is always exciting to see how far we grow and I like how you brought up how rpg elements changed megaman x as a whole. Great analysis
I love this game, another timeless classic with amazing music too. Ive heard all the songs with guitars and sounds so sick.
This was a great review! I love that you're going back to these. Looking forward to X2-4
First time I ever played X was on the PSP and it easily became one of my favorite games of all time, this is a game I always come back to from time to time, never gets old
I'm loving these retrospective videos. Megaman X sounds like a classic worth checking out
It's funny that today's your 5th MMX review birthday, because while I had no idea about this, earlier today of all days I decided to start recording Mega Man X for a review of my own.
And yes, you're one of my big inspirations in this respect.
I watched all your mega man x videos two months ago and I'm super excited to see the newer ones! I'll look at my budget and see if I can give you some dosh on patreon :) Loved your sonic 06 vid btw

Just like classic megaman, the bosses kick ass the and protagonist is badass
The Mega Man X series started out very strongly. I can't think of many first games in a franchise as good as this one. The fact that many still consider it their favorite in the Mega Man X series really says something. My favorite is X4, but I can see where people are coming from with calling this one their favorite.
X4 cranked the intensity up... the last good X game imo

When you said "blood, sweat and tears" I just remembered his X6 Review lol
Im so glad you’re redoing all the reviews, i remember watching all of the X reviews in like a week after they’d all come out, and those reviews were the main reason i played the X games, and go into the Megaman games in general, so thank you, J
I was actually thinking about this recently but MM X really is a perfect game. 10/10.
I wouldn't say it's perfect, but that's mostly me wishing it had more story and character interaction.
20:49 - 21:09 always satisfying😂
But jokes aside when I compare this review to the old one , I realize how much your reviews has improved 👍 continue the great job 👍
It’s really cool you used some of the MegaMan X Dive artwork for your thumbnail. The artwork from that game is incredible
I'm glad you made this and I'm glad I found your Channel
Edit: did me proud I loved the video you really highlighted my favorite parts of the game and reminded me why I love it so much. I was just playing yesterday
I love this channel and biggest thing I want would be for you to do a better look at ZX and ZX advent many people including me agree that they deserve a better look from you.
I like that Dr. Light is wearing Ryu's costume when he teaches the Hadouken.
20:42 While the special weapons are broken in a sense that they make the bosses extremelly trivial, I'm actually gonna defend them, since the way I see it is that the developers wanted you to experiment with the game and discover wich special weapon is the weakness for each boss, and sure, you could just look up a guide and already know each of the bosses weaknesses before even starting the game, but if part of the fun of these games is replay and get better at them, then why would the bosses weaknesses be an exception for this, the game rewards the player's curiosity and experimentation by giving them an easier time with the bosses
I'll draw a Sonic comparison, if you go through the special stages and get all 7 chaos emeralds, the game rewards you with super Sonic witch completely breaks the game in half, but then what's the point of going through well designed stages and bosses if you can't be damaged by any enemy, can one shot almost anything on screen (with the exception of bosses) and go through the stages at an even faster speed not letting you enjoy the level design as much with only the press of a button? Sure, you could say that Super/Hyper Sonic is optional and you could go through the game without using it a single time, but so are the special weapons in megaman games, you don't need to use them to beat the bosses, you could go through the entire game not using them, you would be missing some upgrades, but most of them you don't need to use them, so because of that, even if they break the bosses, I personally don't have a problem with them
Not only that but back then the internet was in its infancy, so there was no easy way to know all the weaknesses without prior experimentation first.
@@tartrazine5 *"The MMX equivalent of Super Sonic is the Hadouken, not boss weapons."*
However, unlike Super Sonic, either the Hadouken or Boss Weapons don't make you invincible, so those still don't remove difficulty.
*"It was bad design to let you easily stunlock bosses with the weapon they're weak to."*
Why? as Gustavo said prior, it rewards curiousity. Why should said reward be tarnished like this?.
*"although it should take more than three hits so they still have a chance to use their full abilities early in the fight."*
And make it so casuals cannot beat the game?
Better than Mega Man 2
But not Zero 2😄
I started with NES MegaMan, and this one is still my favorite MegaMan and one of my favorite platformer, awesome video
To this day, I’ve never encountered any kind of videogame ‘victory fanfare’ that hits quite as triumphantly as MMX1’s stage clear theme.
It's so fun for me to put up a fight against Vile when there's no possible way for me to win.
never been a fan of forced-loss battles so i can't say i share that opinion
Loved this review!
I'm always happy to see when a RUclipsr reflects about how the channel started and how things evolved. :)
Just like the Megaman series, your channel has grown. You both deserve it
Honestly, this game was also the biggest inspiration for my father in introducing me to Newgrounds for fun great flash games.
Period.
Oh my god the ending!! So fn hype and kinda scary 😁
I was really high last night and i was almost in tears about how amazing the soundtrack for this game is
Excellent video. I admit i'm not fond of every video on the channel but this one is a real winner for describing why X1 is such a landmark game in this series and why it holds up masterfully, well done.
still one of the best games and game theme songs ever. i complete a gundam build when this pops in my head.
Damn bro. I'm super happy that you could grow your channel like this. Your story is awesome and I hope this is helping you pay your bills!
You've really polished your commentary skills since I first came across your channel. Glad to see you're better than ever J
As someone who's 37, and has been playing SNES games his whole life but always skipped Megaman until now: thank you so much for this video!
I'll never forget the first time I popped MMX into my SNES. The music, the visuals, the gameplay.. all seemed so perfect. Still is.
You can use Chillpinguins surfboad to reach higher areas like the heart piece in Armadillo stage
Did you know you can cut Launch Octopus' arms off with cutter even though it's not his weakness? He shoots less missiles as a result.
