  • This routine runs about a minute and a half and is the second one I perform, after the warm up. It's a bit more intense, which sets the stage for the more demanding jumps. It also lets me know if I have my A-game that day or not!
I start with 5 heel taps per leg, followed by 5 toe taps, 3 double heel taps, 3 double toe taps, 5 side taps, 3 half-side taps, then 5 box taps per leg (basically tapping a box around the center of the body). I conclude with a 360 rotation to the right with heel taps, a 360 rotation to the left with toe taps, and a 360 rotation right with a sprint. Then I get to work - ha!
Another challenge in addition to the heat, is the brightness of the sun. When I turn right, I'm facing west, and would be staring right at the sun. So I put my head down and it's all by feel at that point.
This freestyle is part of my HIIT routine, which I designed to mimic a hockey game - intense bursts (shifts) of 45 seconds to a minute, with short breaks in between. I typically do 15 routines, though sometimes more, sometimes less.
