I really enjoyed your insight to the process of choosing a character! I'm currently excited to play Azucena as she's the one who just brings a smile to my face. I'm very excited to try to learn her.
@@Ghirlanda I hate to do this to you, but I decided the moment I saw her trailer. I saw those slick Peruvian moves and grooves and my soul BUZZED in resonation, brother. I got to try her at a convention in London and it just feels amazing. I can't wait to sit down and go through her command list.
Taking notes! Its very assuring i had the same thoughts as you sheared in the video. Then i know i'm on the right path to chose new one. I been changing main character probably 4 times since i started with Tekken. I started late S1 and changed multiple times, I did found the right fit in the end but ofc the character not coming back. But Luckily I don't feel to lost anymore as i was in the early days. and i have 2-3 character in mind to try out and 1 i really want to invest on. I recently switch to Leverless controller so i have a mountain to climb and prepare for t8 from now on. I'm ready to again for another 3+ years of Tekken to see how far i can go before time catch up for me. The Next chapter starting for us all soon again, hehe. Excellent video by the way.
I am super new to tekken 7 I bought it two days because I am hyped for tekken 8. I saw Reina’s trailer and fell in love, I do want to try and main her in T7 I tried playing asuka but I am slowly realizing that wasn’t for me this video will help me a lot cheers
I picked katarina while trying to learn to defend against her in practice mode and never left her after that. The character was just so much fun and like you said resonated with my style of play. hopefully i find something to play in tekken 8 as of now i dont really see anyone tbh.
Tekken 7 was technically my first ever fighting game i played so i tried out many many many characters....... Trying to practice as much as i can. I went from Katarina to King to Lucky Chloe... When i finally understood to Punish, Combos, Walls, Pressure, basic Fundamentals. My characters and technically three mains were just Master Raven, Lei Wulong and Armor King. In Tekken 8 i want to pick Reina and Devil Jin. I have been practicing EWGF and Mishima tools for the last few months just for Tekken 8 and i could finally start my Mishima journey. It is some technical but i wouldn't say hard. I like it. Something that Master Raven, Lei and AK offered me during my journey. I can still give Raven, Lei and AK their tries when they get released. Well Raven is already in but yeah.
I am rly intrigued to play reina when she comee out and im sure she will be harder to learn because mishima but her entire character just vibes rly hard with me
Outstanding video extremely well done and well presented. The character affinity factor is probably to me the most key thing. I value characters with easy execution so that I don't have to worry or think about how to execute a move and instead concentrate more on the strategy. I like to think of it as imagine if you are playing chess and you want to move your bishop to take a piece but you only have one chance to execute the move or else you fail to take the piece. If the execution is very difficult to do to where I would not be able to move the bishop say 20% of the time that is a big problem. Applying that analogy to characters I want to have a character that I can execute their moves near close to 100% of the time with only rare misses. Even with easy execution there are many ways to be creative and add depth. I see for instance quite alot of that with Azucena where her stances and various movements add creativeness and depth to her without requiring difficult execution. All that said that is just what works for me. The beauty of Tekken is that each person can pick characters based on what they value the most.
13 years ago i was like 6 years old when my dad showed me ps1 and i started playing tekken 3. I loved Yoshimitsu. since then I played tekken 6 and 7 and I would always choose him. When i saw him in tekken 8 I was so hyped i cannot wait for the game to release.
Since I'm coming back to Tekken after 26 years, how I choose my main is to first get a feel of each character. See if I can learn their basic combos without going to the movelist and see if everything flows nicely with other skills/combo.
I find the idea about choosing your main based on your character affinity quite interesting. I am a King main because I think he looks cool and is lore wise cool. However, despite spending a lot of time with him, I don't really know how to play him. My second main is Bryan. He is supposed to be a "difficult" character but I find him quite easy. It's just mixing up your timings for CH and then wall pressure. I enjoy Bryan's CH tools. I really like King but I don't like how he plays. He is more interesting in Tekken 8 so maybe then he will suit me better.
I'm a Hwoarang main since I first started Tekken, but I always try something new. In Tekken 7 for example I really loved Lucky Chloe (pls don't hate me). For Tekken 8 I will definitely try Azucena, she looks very fun to play.
King looks cool and saw his trailer multiple times. Would that imply I like grab move characters? King was the first I chose in the cbt. His grabs felt lethal and strong. But Reina looks cool her lightning and alternate outfit looks awesome. Lili also looks fun. Hard decisions.
My journey in tekken was basically this: l started like almost everyone in tekken 3, just spamming with eddy, l was a kid back then and to my eyes eddy was so cool to play with all these acrobatic animations and his iconic green yellow outfit. In tekken 5 l actually get tired of smashing buttons so l thought l needed some sort of a new "start", so was in that moment l thought "well which one l can pick?!" The answer was lee, elegant, cool, nice animations and way more challenging. Then life goes on and for a period a completly drop tekken, l play so many other games and one day, my brother give it to me Naruto storm 2, in that game ofc a was looking foward to play naruto characters, but when l take a look to the roster l find this dude called lars, back then l was scratching my head questioning "who is this dude? I dunno lets try him" l needless to say had so mutch fun and was one of my main in that game. One day l was invited by a friend after school, this dude just pick his ps3 and start to log in tekken 6, when we get to the roster l immediatly recognize Lars and l was like "OH MY GOD SO THIS IS WHERE HE CAME FROM". After that event, l bought tekken 6 and l became a lars main. Never drop him ever since. For tekken 8 it will be the same, l consider myself an itermediate player, that likes to tryhard sometimes labbing and learning stuffs, l reach tekken king in ranked on tekken 7 with him, and cosindering how bad he was in that game, lm pround of the journey l did with him. 💪

Great vid, but I do think 'competitive edge' is something a newbie shouldn't even think about at all; with the exception of "meme" characters like Kuma/Panda that will likely never be high tier, any given character they choose and start to work on, by the time they become truly good at the game enough for tier lists to even matter at all, especially in a game that takes as long to get good at as Tekken, the generally-agreed-upon 'tier' of the character they chose will likely be WILDLY different from the one it was when they first started. It really is best to choose a character you 'vibe with' the most in a game as complex as Tekken and just ride the waves with them until you're very comfortable with the game. THEN you can think about changing to a current high tier if you're very competitive.
I am so excited for the Kuma trailer. I really like playing bears, but they've been missing the little extra. Hopefully a more serious Heihachi inspired Kuma will actually make him my main for T8
You don't need to pick a main. You can just play with multiple characters. Once you get bored with one, Just find another. and that's the fun and the game. It's not about being competitive it's just enjoying the game. You only need a main if you're playing competitively
I started to play tekken from t7 season 4. It was all the way to this month, that I tried different characters and I wasn`t really satisfied with them, because you want to win and often you can`t do it with character, that is fun to play. I am not using dlc characters, cause I believe in pay to win aspect. So I main two characters. One for win, one for fun. If I can`t win, at least I`ll have fun with another char and while playing crazy.
It helps me developing different playstyles! I also believe getting TOO MUCH attached to a virtual character is not very healthy. So as long as i feel comfortable with some character and i have fun, i can enjoy Tekken 😁
Nice video, really helpful. The mashimas really resonate with me, their wave dash and 50/50 playstyle makes picking up and learning either of them quite intuitive in my opinion. But I think for Tekken 8, I want to seek a new character who offers a different approach, somebody who isn't too complex but also has advanced techniques to master. Also, what type of software do you use to caption the videos?
Not much. I have an average execution but i prefer to use easy execution characters so i can focus myself more into other aspects of the game. But some people feel a character without execution barrier is boring and cheap. It is their opinion and I don't mind it, everyone's different!
