In this video we discuss how transformer differential (87T) schemes work, using the SEL-487E protection relay as an example. We discuss how to calculate the tap settings for compensating current magnitudes, and how to determine the phase shift compensation needed for transformer differential protection schemes. We also discuss how to program an SEL-487E relay to implement a transformer differential (87T) protection scheme.

There are hundreds of videos all over internet that explain the same stuff, mostly just stick to the theoretical aspects only. The end result is that the engineer gets the concept but face critical challenges when comes across practical applications. This video does a perfect job in bridging those concepts with real time applications. Hats off to that!
I wish engineering colleges would adopt the same approach sometime.
Thanks Ahmed! We certainly do try to not only cover topics from a theoretical point of view, but also explain how these are used in real life.
Programming depends on the manufacturer and has become trivially easy with modern relays. The school is there to teach you concepts, programming a given SEL relay in school would be a waste of time.
Explanation on the topic is clear, informative and very helpful.
Thanks!
Excellent video, Romero. Wish you all the best 😇👍
Thanks Ahmed!
Very good. Thanks 👍
Thank you for the great video!
Glad you liked it!
Very good and clear
Keep it up 👍🏼
Thanks!
Thanks you sir Theoretical best Product in the World.❤
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Excellent, for differential. is it always use definite time or even instantaneous?
Thank you
No problem!
How we chose slp1 and slp2
Nice videos, pls can you use other relay types like siemens, ABB, NA
RI, in examples. Thank you.
Thanks Abdul! We’ll consider it for future videos.
Please explain the meaning of Setting Times Tap must be >=0.1
