Kakashi used the 1st gate again during his battle against Kakuzu when he used the Lotus to drop him head first into the ground. That technique as stated by Guy can’t be used without the first Gates activation.

What a lot of people don't understand is that opening the gates is actually pretty trash when it comes to technique. First, it's hard to learn it, secondly, it creates a huge strain on the body. Guy and Lee had to reach absurd levels of training to get anywhere, had permanent damage, and Lee himself never got anywhere as a ninja even with the 6th gate. It only helps if you are locked in taijutsu and can't use anything else and you put in the thousands of hours of work. In any other situation, just use any other jutsu.

I think its safe to say most of the main characters have the 1st gate open during the later battles of Shippuden. You cant just randomly obtain speed and have no wear on your body (except maybe Naruto in the cloak - but what about when hes not?)
Kakashi states that being able to open the first gate is rare and calls lee both lucky and talented in part1 and in part2 we know that in the entire village less than 10 could (we know this cause there was a squad who used the eight gates that lee leads and it had like 7 people in it)
