Thanks for sharing a thorough and genuine breakdown of costs with us man! Would love to own a M140i but can’t justify that monthly spend on top of my mortgage and other homeowner costs 😩. Sticking with my F21 120d whilst I lust over RUclipsrs M140i/M240i cars
Owning a car is an utter luxury. Add on mods, decent tyres, fuel and we can see why it’s in excess of £400pm. As you age your insurance will reduce. I pay £32pm fully comprehensive. But there’s always something car relates to spend out on. Informative breakdown. Your bmw is looking awesome.
insurance is so expensive over in the UK, i'm 19 and pay $900 a year for fully comprehensive on my 2018 M2 Comp in New Zealand. I had a 2013 M135i before and that was just over $600 a year.
M140i are not expensive to run, as they don't have the 'M' car tax for servicing and parts. Fuel can be a bit expensive if you have a heavy foot, but for the fun you have it's a decent trade off. Had mine almost 4 years and I don't have a rich mummy & daddy supporting me, nor do I have a job with huge wages either.
I have a 120i here in Spain. I'm currently 20 and I bought the car back in october 2021 partly thanks to you. I loved your videos of the 118i and I really made the jump for the 1 series over a Golf gti or S3, even more because it was a little bit cheapper and rwd. I love the car and it's really fun to drive. I currently have the B48 2 litter stock, having arround 200hp. In my case, the car still has the original tires from 2018 but I'm definetly going to change them in order to pass the MOT here wich is called ITV because they are burn on the exterior. The car is a 5 door and it has the M pack with shadow line, I really love the car so much and the best part is the manual transmission. I normally use it just to go to the University and back home mixing city drives and highway and my mpg is about 33/35. On long highway-only trips I have come to do 40/44 mpg depending on the speed (75 mph usually). In sporty drives you can waste the gas that you want and the car really does well doing 28/30 mpg. Considering that it's a manual, it really is not bad at all. Insurance whise, I pay like 500 more and less. I didn't bought an M140i because is much more expensive, and I really don't think that I need that much of a car for 95% of normal driving, also, a stage 1 in this engine can get you up to 290hp, it is a ver nice engine just like the B58, and technically it is a mid front engine, since the engine is behind the front axle unlike the B58 and the car weighs less, the only modiffication I'm going to do is actually upgrade the brakes to the M performance ones because my car does not have them, (there are some others with them because it was an option). Nice video, and I hope to see more content on that beautifull M140i, I also miss your 118i btw ;)
290hp isn't very safe for the engine though, realistically 240hp is the most you can get out of the engine without causing damage and affecting reliability. Also stock they make 180hp not 200hp.
Great video bro. I live in East London with a 2018 M140 (stock) and fortunately even including finance my monthly’s aren’t near this. I think if I start adding mods this could change but I do think that the M140 is honestly the hot hatch you can get for the money. For anyone with some spare change I would recommend them one million percent.
Nice vid, I own an A45 so paying pretty much the same as yourself, find servicing the killer for the likes of transmission and dif, luckily own the car outright because when you add it all up like you've done I couldn't justify paying that amount with finance on top
I've got an m135i and I've spent £3.5k on repairs last year lol, steering rack, intake system, new engine head because spark plugs snapped, new fuel pump, and now its in the garage for another issue :) don't get me wrong it's a lovely car but I'll be looking for something more sensible after this. ...like an m3 :D
As a BMW owner, I'm sorry to say, they all break the bank in the end. Fantastic drivers cars, and when they do run without issue, they are great fun. The main caveat I have found however is that many components are just not built to last and even though the prices of the vehicles themselves on the secondhand market reflect this, the actual prices of spares required to maintain the cars properly does not, particularly here in the UK.
Very informative mate, thanks. The M140i is looking deadly, nicely done bud. I would love to own one but sitting on 35k a year currently is just not viable for me, especially with cost of living nowadays.. maybe a few years down the road I will be comfortable enough to grab one.

Just found your videos and started binge watching them they're addictive How do you rate the pro nav and HK systems when buying one of these? Have you heard another m140is sound quality?
car insurance seems to be really cheap in some places in the north east too. im in teesside, im 18 and recently just sold my mk8 fiesta for a bmw 220d (went for diesel bc im currently driving for dominos and can easily do 500+ miles in an average 3 shift week). just hit 1 year ncb, and the no box renewal price for a 190bhp bmw at 18 was £1100, which even im amazed at, as getting a car thats worth over double the fiesta, running quite a bit more power and is rwd is round £100 cheaper than my first year policy
I discovered another neat little car that rose to the top of my list as my next option. The M240i. It also has the B58. So my next choices are a Supra, M240i, or M4. I am leaning towards the M240i because of the price, B58, and extra space. I will contact Darwinpro to see if their F22/M2 spoiler wing fits on the M240i. It is the best wing on the market for the 2 series BMW cars, and I rarely see it on any cars in pictures. This is what I am thinking about as my next car. I have researched the F82 M4 and A90 Supra. Now I have discovered this neat little M240i car with the x-Drive option. I think my next car in the future will be a 2017-2020 M240i because of the price, AWD x-Drive option, it has the B58 engine, and it has the extra car space I like. I don't like the appearance of the next generation of 2 series cars. 2017-2020 are the years I will choose. I have a stock 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 right now. The car is already becoming rare. Save it for the value, or sell it? Hmmm.

Dont do huge miles so 100 a month on fuel sometimes a bit less. Im in newquay on the 10th feb, be a great photo op of yours and my estoril blue together.

That's not bad at all! I am toying with the idea of getting one. I had a Golf R mk7, but sold it after a few months, was a fun car to race to every traffic light, but apart from that, it was bland. Would you recommend an m140?
All dependent on how you drive etc I own an m140 tyres, discs&brakes last me ages, I mainly do motorway journeys and my mpg is sitting at 34.6 over the past 12 months etc

your old one was a newer plate car that's why you use to pay standard rate tax, which is now £165 a year. your new one must be older than a 17 plate meaning you pay the old tax prices. that's why its worth going for the newer models. only thing bad about them is they have a GPF which makes the car sound muffled
What you mod the suspension to for your allows as I notice they 19' but looks like they sit lower than the standard height or is that just the alloys and tyres making it look like that?
Ah thank you mate! Good to know, looking back I should’ve included standard wheels but so many people have aftermarket ones. I just did the price for mine 😁
