i've never regretted buying mine, its a super useful piece of gear, awesome to make songs at home and on the go, as long as you can work past the moderate learning curve initially. Roland has been doing great at keeping the firmware up to date, adding fresh and useful features/fixes. the sounds can be as clean or as dusty sounding as youd like, unlike older 404s where the dusty sound was more 'baked in'. I'd recommend it for anyone already experienced in music making, maybe not complete beginners though.
i ordered a 404 the day this came out and didnt see the review until the day it came in the mail. i bought the thing because i really want that workflow in a self contained box and the limitations are fine for what im doing. cant justify that at teenage engineering prices but for $500, this device feels worth it to me
I actually have started enjoying the sequencer. It needs preparation more than a live set from scratch. But having a couple patterns set up in advance, in the right bpm, its alot of fun to live sequence.
The strange thing is that it doesn't mention the $800 version that Roland and the legendary Stones Trow label released, for their anniversary, with a vinyl and cassette tape. He also doesn't say the machine is a 24-bit midi audio interface, nor does he discuss the USB-C feature for sampling directly from an iPhone, iPad, or anything with USB-C audio. It is a very good sampler, but only for those who hope to have a sampler and not the central booth of the pentagon to make music. Sometimes I notice that people don't know what a sampler is for, seriously, they want a sampler to be a DAW when it never was and was used as a multi-instrument, as the cheapest way to have synth sounds and other things , to record your compositions on multitracks. (digital audio workstation). SP404 mk2 is a grat sampler with many great things. that's all.
I don't get why people always compare portable gear, like the SP, with DAWs. Like... there's literally no gear in the plate that beats a DAW, that's obvious, people don't buy these things because they want to use a DAW lol.
Absolutely. However, gear can be fun (and tedious at the same time). I personally work a lot with computers, and found that I couldn’t muster the energy to also work on music at a computer anymore. So I started buying some gear again. Mostly trying to find a minimal yet versatile setup. Currently landed on an oxi one sequencer with mc707 and digitone for sounds, but I only just got this setup so I’m not sure how I like it yet. Either way it’s fun to tinker.
Vital is free and almost a 1 to 1 clone of serum. In any case different methods of working promote a shift in the way your mind goes about solving problems, which commonly is a factor that can lead to previously unseen results.
Creating with an sp404mk2 is like scribbling in a sketchbook for me. You bake in FX. Scramble up ideas with live to tape "resampled" mixes and chop everything up into a new set of pads to play weirder and weirder jams. Its more about being surprised and following the fun than crafting precise idea
The best part of this video are the comments some of these grumpy turds are saying "shut up and just use a DAW" Fuck that. You should use a casette four track, cocaine, a kramer guitar, some strippers and do it up 80s style. Your beats will be hella fire then! His review was rad, tho. He basically says "it's mostly a toy, but it's still fun to jam with"
There is a used one in a Local thrift shop, they want £600 for it, I was tempted but, I already dont use everything I have. I buy shxx that ends up never being used and that annoys Me.
So, the SP404mk2's fx are great & one can spend $500 on a good fx gtr pedal for example. Looking at it that way it's justifiable. FX first, sampler an added bonus. Sampler-wise & sequencer-wise tho, it's a steep, menu-diving, complicated, convoluted, learning curve that tends to kill one's on the spot creative buzz damn near instantly. I've brought it out for another go just recently to give it yet another chance & hoping things will start to click w/ it. It's very mobile & can definitely fine tune sounds on the go. (although I really hate where the headphone jacks are at the bottom not the top.. why? I can't comfortably rest it on my lap w/ them at the bottom). Bottom line, It's got some nice aspects, but workflow sucks.
You missed a 8008135 meme

Weaver beats x AudioPilz edits are gold!! Please keep these comin. Headed over to give Florian’s a watch now. Much love

Bought the SP-404 as an FX, then tried to work with the sampler - as a joke. Now I lay down my ideas with the SP-404 and refine them on the DAW...
Nice man.

I love running my portable turntable through it. The effects are great for cutting. Love it for one shots to play over dj sets as well.
Besides samples and sequencing, i use my sp404 as an effects box for my guitar at band pravtice. Its worth the $500 for that reason alone.
The Sp404 mk2 is a beast!
I love the character it offers when you resample. Yes and the pads are so great to use it really lends itself well to jamming out with jungle breaks.
Love this series of review reviews 😊
😂😂😂😂 I’m on the floor my 2 favorite gear roasters in the same video.
You can audition samples it was in one of the updates
you can do that even with some of the older 404s
Florian’s gonna have to up his meme game with you

Had mines over a year, only just took it out the box. Currently using the MK2 as an interface & for Dj mode

The mk2 is my favorite piece that plus koala for sequencing is an amazing combo.
You can sequence external gear with koala?
I also suspect that a pretty big update is going to drop this week iykwim.
I run my SP -404 with my MPC 4000......wicked combo

All you really need is a DAW. Maybe even Serum and Infiltrator 2 lol.

And a squeeze box. Old school gear at it's finest

What is your process to record live to tape?
@@hansmemling2311 The resample button onto a new pad. Or just the "mark" button to get the last live 45 seconds.
@@cleekersneaker wait the sp404 has tape inside it?
@@hansmemling2311 I am old.
@@cleekersneaker I am confused.
I have one of these and have done one or two wav wars beats with it. Lots of fun

skip back and effects make this thing worth buying for hardware and sample based musicians
I wouldn’t get this based on the fact that koala exists.
Last update of koala is massive... still dig the sp too...

Once you get it down the workflow is much more enjoyable than the MPC one imo.
You can get an elbow adapter to fix that lap problem, was the first thing I bought after realizing the same thing
I regret selling mine. The MPC is slow af to use in comparison.
you can bet your eyebrows
1st!
Just use a DAW and get on with it.
still
no ko 2 vid
bad gear is kind of a boomer imo ( btw, I am not an SP owner :P )
THOSE OLD SHITS LIKE THE DR. BEAT AND SP 202 OR AHATECER, THEY WERE COOL WHEN CHEAP USED. WHEN U TALKING SO MANY HINFOS WHATS THE POINNT
