As a political science major in college, your videos have helped me study, write papers, and understand concepts in my higher level classes. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these videos, I and I'm sure tons of others appreciate it.
Tirani Rye Thanks sister! I always like getting warm teacher fuzzies. If you get a sec, could you and your peeps give me a vote in this edu award thingy? I need 50 votes to take the lead! Thanks! And anytime you have any questions, just ask! @2014-awards/best-education-use-of-media-audio-video-podcast-etc-2014/
I have 100% pure American mutts. Those two love pups passed a couple years ago but our home has adopted two more American mutts. Long live American Mutts! I am glad you found this helpful, I hope you subscribe and spread the good word! Peace!
this saved my grade!!! thanks so much for making this you helped me remember these not just for my test but looking back 3+ years later i actually retained this information and still used it today. love that you added the humor and oh gosh- the dogs!!! thanks again!!!
I can't even begin to explain how much you have helped me. I have a American Government exam tomorrow and you say things in a way where I understand. You don't talk as if I already know all this, you dumb it down in a sense, so I can understand it. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! Keep doing what your doing. You have truly helped me.
Nah, I do adjunct as a professor but I am way to lazy to get my doctorate. I am a high school teacher full time. Although I prefer facilitator of learning experiences. Thanks for the kudos and best wishes on your own path.
Some people do three fingers for 3 is a crowd (no quartering of soldiers) No finger games for 7 or 9. Seven is Civil (jury trial) Nine is same as 10th but refers to rights not specifically mentioned in the constitution being reserved for the people
Thanks. I think 10 has to do battle with the elastic clause, the fact that the Cons, states, "Congress shall make all laws nec. and proper." Congress routinely steps on the 10th, like DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act, which clearly violates not only the tenth but Art. 4 (states must honor other states laws). Before we bash the elastic clause though, we must rem. that it is a smart move designed to allow us to change as the world does around us, without it we would be trapped in the Gilded Age.
Hi Mr. Hughes, I'm a fellow history teacher in NC. I love your videos! I share them a lot with my own students. I love easy to remember ways to remember not so easy concepts. I really like your Articles of Confederation analogy (the dad and the kids). Keep up the good work, it is much appreciated by students and teachers alike.
This video helped me a ton! I am currently student teaching and I used these hand signals with my 8th graders when I was teaching the bill of rights, and they loved it. Your videos are great! Keep it up, the world needs more people like you!
Agreed. The problem is agreeing on the cause and the solution. The right blames FDR and the left blames the multi national corporations and powerful 1%. So once you choose your answer your in a ditch across from the other ditch. There I think lies the real problem.
Due process has been constitutionally defined by the courts through the testing of various police actions and state laws. Fortunately, it is not necessary for the common man to know all of the ins and outs of constitutional precedent, their basic process is clearly laid out in Miranda, thats why we do that. The only people who need to know and practice constitutional due process are the officials which execute the law.And in words of the court when they ruled on obscenity,I know it when I see it.
This is FANTASTIC! Thank you for helping me through me American History class! I have referenced your videos to supplement my reading for the last month, and will continue to do so. I am sharing you on my facebook to assist my friends as well.
Thank you so so much for teaching/making these videos. You have no idea how helpful this is. I love your funny comments and stuff it helps the memory. You make me feel normal too lolol
I ask the internet gods that everyday. Thanks for the kudos, we have over 125 lecture vids, be sure to subscribe for all the latest. I just banged up the Korean War like a gangster.
For criminal trials, once you are found not guilty than no... no new evidence, thats it.... the prosecution gets one shot... a hung jury is different than they can go after you again. There is also the issue of Federalism... so if there is a state trial and a not guilty verdict the Feds can still charge you with a Federal crime... if there is one to be filed..... and yed it is different for civil trials... a lot of those rules differ state to state.
I don't want to subscribe you because I don't want too many of your vdos to show up on my page, but thank you so much for putting up all of these vdos. they have been very helpful to me to get brief information for MCAT writing section. It's easier to listen haha. THANK YOU!
So interesting how ur on-screen persona is so different, more serious and like the more "regular" teachers we had in school in this earlier vid vs. ur more recent ones, learning an teaching still very good on both fronts.
@Kronicilln3ss great factual based answer. I agree that there needs to be debate between security and freedom, habeaus corpus and where that line is drawn. But using such incendiary language probably odes not do much to elevate the debate. In comparison, Bush probably supported more restrictions on freedom than Obama but it may be close. Ill wait for the impeachable offense that you alluded to.
My Government class watches your videos (when they're relevant to what we're discussing) quite often. Our Government teacher is a first-year teacher and is obviously still trying to get his bearings. Sometimes, you can explain things a lot better than he can- in a visual way that isn't strictly note-taking (hand gestures, visual aids, etc). Thank you for helping me pass!
@devilishson666 Oh my! So sorry that must of been a horrible experience. Watching the suckling of a buttocks and then throwing up feces. I hope you brushed your teeth more than once, I would suspect that your breath is going to stink for a while. Best of luck, you seem to have a knack for engaging with the English language. Thanks for the constructive comments, I will take them into consideration in the future.
I am a fairly old person and I am so happy to find a way to remember and therefore learn and respect these amazing rights! Thank you for teaching this old dog a new trick! And your dogs were so funny, trying to protect you from the po-po lol
@isavedlatin1 I am in agreement with you. This becomes "the rub" when discussing direct interpretation vs intentions and a more broad understanding of the text. If the ? is whether or not we should have citizens militias patrolling around vs relying on the national guard /police / state cops / etc / to protect us, I would love a debate. But I think that is not what many NRA supporters claim lay to when discussing the second amendment. Im not sure I am any closer to the truth by the way, lol
This is one of your best replies to anything! Loved it. The commentator was, um, wrong. And I, yes, I, well, I said the video was good. And the dogs agreed. That being said, when a teacher goes to the dogs to get some humor in....!!!
I would disagree politely. And please rest assured they are taught in my classroom. I would assure you that I spend as much time as the "bear arms" part as I do the "necessary militia" part.
Thank you Keith, this helped a bunch :) i know you've been told this but you're a great teacher and helped me a bunch for my first test :) you got yourself a new subscriber!
I really love and enjoyed this video as a Constitutional law professor. My students would really benefit from this. What is the orange object behind you? It looks very interesting!
Your videos are always quite entertaining. Would love if you could remake this as aged not so well. Information still relevant just would be nice if newer-ish.
Thank you for caring enough about the foundational document of our country, to do this. Dark, is the absents of light. Light is not the absents of darkness. You are a person worthy to call yourself and American. You have earned the right to not be called a sheep.
TGIF....high five, rather high ten...good review over the previous 10 Amendment videos. Ummm, would the teacher consider it a form of cheating should other students witness me providing this sign language to myself during the exam?
**A well-balanced breakfast, being necessary for the start of a healthy day, the right of the people to buy and eat food shall not be infringed.** Who has a right to buy and eat food? The well-balanced breakfast? Or the people? *P.S. the words "well-regulated" mean "in working order," and there are several references to "well-regulated clocks" that were written at around the same time and prior to the Second Amendment. That didn't mean that the clocks had to be controlled -- it meant that it was properly functioning.*
You actually saved your own butt, I just lent a hand. Wait, that sounded bad. I facilitated your own learning experience. I accept thank yous in the form of subscribing and your future viewership. Nice job by the way on that exam! #winning

4:04 when my class first heard that we ended up dieing of laughter
Same
Thanks Prof, that means a lot coming from you. The orange thing is an old 1940's fridge I picked up from a friend.... we turned into cupboard space.

And thank you for the warm fuzzies. It is was fuels my soul.

The dogs barking. Hilarious. I can totally relate.
+Terri Jones I tell my 8th graders the dog is telling HipHughes "Nooooooooo" when he tells them to be quiet!

Your video was very helpful and entertaining, the hand gestures are making it so much easier to remember thank you!
You could turn the eight on its side to indicate infinity. That could help remind students of excessive bail.
@isavedlatin1
