      Oversimplification. Comparisons of this kind are generally unhelpful. To claim "wrestling is to boxing as calisthenics is to powerlifting" is to make false assumptions that we could discuss but I really don't care.It is not that you are "wrong" because one can make comparisons of these nature for the sake of entertainment perhaps, but in doing so you also vastly oversimplify the differences and similarities between the two disciplines.

      Jimboaxle So in the end, Mathias loses by 3 reps. Big fuckin woop lol, 3 reps. Mathias doesn't spend a penny on gym memberships. He does all of his natural training on bars and with his own body weight. Whereas the other guy has personal trainers, all sorts of supplemental drinks and pills, and spends his entire day and tons of money at the gym. Mathias wins in my book. Much respect to both warriors, they both gave 150% and that should not be diminished in any way. But Korays pull ups were reaaaaaaally sloppy. With all due understanding that this is not a strict pull up competition, still...the constant legkicks to get the chin over the bar were way way more than you can excuse. Matthias did 100% perfect pull ups all the way. If the same was expected for both, Koray wouldn't even have finished the 20 pull ups at all.

    • @mattkaye6559
      @mattkaye6559 7 лет назад +22

      So, let's say they both trained those exercises for 2 months before. They're all weighted... and Kora weighs about 9kg (20lbs) more than Matthias. And they have similar bodytypes... the 20lbs is muscle. Even with that, and the judging being in favor of the one who goes to the gym instead of the street and parks (as it usually is for strength wars) Matthias came very close to beating Kora. The point in the end is that for upper body workouts. Calisthenics will get you more strength per pound of muscle, and gym workouts will get you bigger, and therefore stronger, but not as strong per pound. If you wanna just call BS... In calisthenics you are using your bodyweight, so your body adapts and doesn't grow as much so it is easier to move yourself. When lifting weights, the body doesn't care how big it gets, as long as it can lift the necessary weight.

    • @Oxideist
      @Oxideist 8 лет назад +3

      +Lucas Freire more about technique than strength? I'm sorry, but you're wrong in that regard. calisthenics is about muscular endurance, the ability to move your own bodyweight for extended periods of time. levers and flags aren't just technique like shooting a bow and arrow or dribbling a basketball, they're about muscles being able to hold a strenuous position for a long time. weight lifting is about your muscles working heavily for short periods of time, then giving them rest before exerting them again. The muscle that body building gives you isn't suitable for calisthenics, I would know, I switched from weight lifting to calisthenics about two years ago, it was an incredibly hard transition at first because I wasn't used to doing those kinds of movements. Once my muscles changed themselves to be lighter and stronger pound for pound, I made progress.

      @AlmightViper 8 лет назад +7

      +Oxideist AGR Excuse me but drawing and holding a bow and arrow isn't about technique either, its about your muscular endurance. Aiming and releasing is where technique come into play:).

      nah.. this is quite fair.. both are not weightlifter. one powerlifter and one calisthenics.. so the challenge is 1 powerlifting move (deadlift), 1 chalisthenic (weighted pull ups) and 1 classic weightlifting and conditioning exercise (clean).

      I think bigger muscles do give more strenght. If You're training for some months and get bigger muscles, You also get stronger. But that doesn't mean that You can not get stronger without getting bigger muscles. It also does not mean, that someone with bigger muscles is always stronger than someone with smaller ones.

    TO be honest this is quite unfair, Calisthenics revolves around mostly bodyweight exercises and almost no weights at all if not by the athlete's will. While powerbuilding relies mostly on weights and weighted movements.. Next time you're doing Calisthenics vs something call Calisthenics athlete Erik neri or LittlebeastM, Adam Raw... they'll be more likely to beat any other I'm sure. I dare you! :)

    Hello everyone, its me, Matthias!
    Thank you very much for all the support, now some statements from myself conserning the competition:
    - first, big THANKS to @BodybuildingRev for making this happen, it was a great opportunity for Koray and me to compete against each other and to get to know each other
    - all my respect to Koray, really strong, humble and good competitor
    - I agreed to the exercises, yes I train legs, I also use weights, everyone should who wants to be more complete. There was nothing unfair about it.
    - For the cleans in the end, I just was too dead, also mentally, it was really tough!!
    - Strengthwars is still young and like any Sport and Events will evolve an get better, so to everyone, please keep the critics positive, its a great thing, they do!
    - this battle was very close, so nothing unfair about it, I enjoyed the challenge
    - last but not least: NEVER BE A KEYBOARD WARRIOR AND STAY OPEN MINDED; FIRST THINK THEN TYPE;)
    All the best,
    Matthias

    I am a powerlifter and I have to say that the calisthenics guy was awesome, he came so close to the other guy when he had a 9kg weight disadvantage and the exercises were closer to powerlifting (considering that deadlifts are a powerlifting movement and that the front squat is pretty close to back squats, while calisthenics athletes don't squat except for pistol squats)
