I’m currently in a 2020 Peterbilt 579 with the big sleeper and I’m going to be getting into a 2021 Western Star 5700XE with the big sleeper. Why? I miss rowing gears. I hate the automatics to be entirely honest, the turning radius is bad, the Cummins X15 is stupidly loud, and I hate how the switch panel layout is so scattered across the cab. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful to have it, but I think a Western Star is right up my alley. The one I’m getting one has a DD15 with an Eaton 13 speed manual. I’ve watched enough videos about them to know what I’m getting into, including your videos which have been super helpful. The 12V issue doesn’t really bug me, I only use one up front and one in the sleeper. My 579 has 9 12v outlets and 2 USB ports!
I don't even have a CDL and I think you would LOVE the VNL860. The only downside I believe is I think 455hp is the max output for the volvo D13 w/ 12 speed i-shift unless you get a cummins x15 but I believe they only allow the x15 to be fitted with a manual.

You would like a KW W900L Quiet Cab with 86” studio sleeper and 8 bag air ride. Not good for short haul or LTL short hops really, but hard to do much better longhaul when you consider things like longevity, resale and support network. I have 30 years behind the wheel, Volvos are nice but have no value anymore after 5 years or so.
Rather than wasting money on Rainex try using a plain old good auto polish like Nu finish. When waxing my cars I do the glass as well Does the same job but last all longer You might remember Glass wax which was basically watered down car wax
This guys doesn’t know jack about trucks. The reason you don’t see more of them on the road today is because historically they have built really heavy duty trucks for logging, mining and other vocational industries. The 4900EX model competes with Kenworth W900L and Peterbilt 379/389, but the reason more owner operators don’t choose it is because of the weight. Western Star trucks are built much heavier average to withstand the harsh environments they most typically operate in. The 5700XE is the Company’s first Aerodynamic truck designed exclusively for On Highway- Long Haul use.
Make sure to share my videos if you guys can please! I’m about to start uploading a lot more!

Yup. I almost didn't watch it because I thought it was one I saw a while back. Then I looked at the date it was put out. Im like ok I'll give it a try. I skipped that part. 😎👍
Hi
Great video
Would be nice to record your trip from Carolina to Florida as well.
Stay safe
Do you have any driving assistance in the truck?
Like line keep assets ?
That 2 in 1 rainx sucks, you want the regular rainx that you to hand buff on and use a little water to clean off
I don't even have a CDL and I think you would LOVE the VNL860. The only downside I believe is I think 455hp is the max output for the volvo D13 w/ 12 speed i-shift unless you get a cummins x15 but I believe they only allow the x15 to be fitted with a manual.
Another great vid from Rusty!
Enjoyed watching and waiting for more... Keep safe and God bless you and your family...
Rusty I think you past me on the 10 in NM, I’m in a silver Prime Freighter governed at 58 mph lol
Leave that shithole. Tf this isnt 1970
Am I the only one who just realized rusty has 104k subs good job rusty
Thank you
@@TheRustyCracker No problem man love the videos keep up that good work
Hi from New Zealand.. two things you need to get Air Horns on your truck,, standard one sounds like a small Toyota.. lol and second have thought about putting RainX in your truck washer tank.? I do that in my car so it never wears off. Just a thought
Bro your content is the BEST!
The company i drive for bought 8 new western stars, the doors started falling apart, windows falling out of their tracks grills coming apart vibrating and lot's of sensor problems, like you said cheaply made. 👎
That's because there are no Western Stars anymore.. they are owned/made by Freightliner now. RIP Western Star.
i was looking for this comment.run far far away from this brand. whatever who buys this brand the truck is pile of ................. no offence just saying.
@@greggregorich8048 What a shame. When the truck first came out (a real WS), it was probably one of the best trucks out there.
@@hawkdsl out where. it never was .the name awesome choice but nothing else.
@@greggregorich8048 When the real Western Star released it in 2015, the truck was great.
hey rusty I was just wondering what do truck drivers do after they finish their logs??
I go home , or sleep.
my Toyota Camry 2013 was wrecked in an accident.. on the advice of others i bought a 2020 Subaru forester sport. not happy with cvt transmission and timing belt. i should have bought Toyota highlander. waiting for winter see how forester performs. recommend Toyota
Hey Rusty, you ever driven Peterbilts or Kenworths?
We have 2020 daycabs petes at my ltl company. They turn like shit for local use but they ride super nice
@@TheRoyalking761 you must drive for R&L carrier's
@@truckingwithcliff yup
What kind of windshield mount are you using?
You would like a KW W900L Quiet Cab with 86” studio sleeper and 8 bag air ride. Not good for short haul or LTL short hops really, but hard to do much better longhaul when you consider things like longevity, resale and support network. I have 30 years behind the wheel, Volvos are nice but have no value anymore after 5 years or so.
For a bonfire, ancient junk...cannot stand those and the 389s,my back is done within 100 mile in those!
Do a video on the best semi truck for Beginners
What is going to happen to your Western Star
Classic I85 roadworks south of Charlotte.....to Spartenburg/Greenville... It never ends
Rather than wasting money on Rainex try using a plain old good auto polish like Nu finish. When waxing my cars I do the glass as well Does the same job but last all longer You might remember Glass wax which was basically watered down car wax
What happened to the wreck green volvo? Sold already?
They just put me n 579 peterbilt love it 😁😇
hello rusty miller...hope you and family doing well ...my question was FREIGHTLINER OR VOLVO ?? WHICH IS BEST TO BUY ?
Can you please tell me the breed of the Dog who is in your video's Thumbnail?
I really love ur truck videos bro keep up the good work
This guys doesn’t know jack about trucks.
That is so true
I am driving a 1997 fld120 and I love it and won't change my girl with a world
