I like how Valis sometimes really makes sure the skulls are dead.
dude that is a huge and easy xp boost i never knew about i just dodged em
Wow. And so began my addiction to video games. Amazing how much I remember after 25 years.
This was my all time favorite game. The game play was so ahead of its time!
I think this game gets hated on just because it's different and that makes it easy for people to point at. This is personally my favorite Zelda behind A Link To The Past. I think the combat is just incredibly fun.
it gets hated because people like you dare to put it over actual good zelda games. this game is the worst zelda game only ahead of the cdi disc games. this game doesnt even know what the heck it wants to be. final fantasy or random generic nes action game. Random encounters so annoying and dumb. this game is shit period.
Wtf, the game is, for the most, hated because of the difficulty that ruin it, and after playing it a lot, I can confirm it. Not saying the game is bad, but yeah, they could have done better with the difficulty.
I can see how if you were wanting a true sequel to the original Zelda game this could be disappointing, but I don’t think there is anything inherently wrong with how it mixes genres some. If they lowered the difficulty and refined the game concept more a side series of “Link’s Adventures” games or whatever in this format could have done well I think.
This game wasn't hated till AVGN decided to take shots at this game, then the rest of the game community turned into parrots and turned against this great game. For it's time it was highly anticipated, and delayed, and was generally well liked till AVGN came along. I am proud to have it in my game collection alongside the first Zelda, the SNES Zelda games, the Gameboy one, and both Gameboy Color titles.
No, everybody hates it because it is an unfair piece of garbage. I don't have a problem if you like it though.
this game is underrated
+小早川ゆたか very underrated indeed
nah random encounters alone make its shit tier. dont even get me started on all the other problems. You might as well just play shinobi nes instead.
TF2 Yutaka I agree
No it's not.
At least it introduces Dark Link and the Upward and Downward Stab moves and the popular Temple/Palace song. I fucking love this experiment Nintendo tried.
This game (Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link) has the *3rd Best BGM Music on nes of All-Time* i enjoyed the game play ton... too. A - Class Game and my first and favorite RPG game.
+sainttrunks1982 I agree with you. So many people hate the music but i love it, this game brings me so many nostalgia. I remember that the first NES games i played back then was Zelda II and The Simpsons!
*****
Who do you know who hates the BGM music of Zelda 2? I can only think of one or two others on NES in its class.
I cant tell, i just read alot of bad reviews about the music of this game. Some wrote that is repetitive and annoying. I personally think the music on this game is awesome!, so catchy. Sorry my bad english, not my main language
*****
Oh alright, it is repetitive i could see who people don't like repetitive music. But yes it was great music by its self as you said, and catchy.
The battle music (the one go hear when you got in contact with a monster outside or in cave) is my favorite!. This game was a great influence to nowdays games of the RPG genre
One of the most iconic intros
This game is hard as hell man!!
the challenge is there but still fun to play
Played it when I was 8 years old I think. Got to the final battle but don’t think I finished. Not sure why.
I love this game! Brings back such memories playing it with my dad. Definitely one of the hardest games.
I've always loved that Link has a shadow after you beat bosses. Little details are what make this series go from fantastic to LEGENDary ;)
this brings back so many childhood memories
yea and its so cool i like the idea that link can learn spells from a wizard zelda 1 is good as well but i might need a walkthrough for that 1
I love music of this game 😍 love zelda forever ❤️
I never even *knew* you could destroy the bouncing rainbow dungeon skulls!
+Anonymous I knew, you just had to wail on them for a bit. Worth the XP early on too.
Lol
He almost goes brain-dead trying to kill one
I remember playing this when I was like 6 years old...the music alone brings back memories.
dude you make this insanely difficult game look so easy lol. no fucking way i could ever get this far.
Really? I beat it when I was like 10 years old, and was just learning English.
I think we were all better at NES titles when we were ages 3-10.
Wow now I finally learned how exp work in this game thanks :)
This man is not human, but rather a God.
Loved this game. One of my most satisfying "beating a game" feelings ever. I also wonder how the hell I ever did it without the use of the internet.
We had to rely on our brain, and figuring things out on our own. We didn't get an hour long tutorial on learning to use the controls, or how to battle the games enemies.
and the music is amazing too
This game is awesome. People need to stop hating on an awesome game.
People hates this just because it's difficult. Wich is stupid. I remember how i raged while playing this and after hours i solve some puzzle i was stuck, i was "oh, it was simple"
it has freaking dumb random encounters. its the worst zelda game on a nintendo console period. this game is pure shit just stop with the its a good game bs. lttp shits all over it.
TechnicallyLegit it's not because people hate it it's the fact that it s hard as Hell the game is awesome in my opinion but this makes dark souls look easy if you ask me
People don't understand certain games nowadays.
This game would be considered amazing if it weren’t overshadowed by the expectations associated with a zelda game, along with it’s difficulty. As a stand-alone it might have even gotten its own franchise
Absolutely love this game. Completely underrated.
I friggin' love this game!
yes me 2
Man, this takes me back to my childhood.... I miss my old nes and Sega master system.
Oh such memories back in the day......I remember crying to get this game!
I'd got to say The Adventure of Link is one of the most challenging Zelda games when I played it for the first time in my childhood.
the boomerangs always reminded me of toenails.... also, most underrated of the series & has an excellent soundtrack!
9.50 wait WHAT? You can actually kill the flying skulls? I never had the patience to do 100 stabs...
So that girl just takes link into her house at 2:33 and "restores" his life eh? ;)
I know right?!!?
+Patrick Myers Have ya ever noticed all those ppl speak slowly like robots ? I just rofled at them ! XD
+Patrick Myers LOL that's what i was thinking as an adult playing this years later.
So, what about old woman which restores mana?
7gx. & TO
The utilizing and side-scrolling gameplay and experience system in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link are a mix with the 2D similar to features of Super Mario Bros., Metroid, Rambo (1988 NES), and the Castlevania series, especially Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. Instead of being top-down and makes heavy use of RPG Elements, such as an experience-based leveling system, magic and health points, and random encounters. The game also has deeper story elements with a more complex world, including towns filled with characters.
This game give me a very weird nostalgic feeling. It's been over 20 years, and that music still makes me feel like it was yesterday. I was so young and something, I still have NO idea what, but something about this game's design or format that gives me very, VERY weird vibes.. It's driving me crazy that i can't think of what exactly that is though..
I don't get why people hate this game. It and Majora's Mask are so over hated that it's sad. IMO Zelda II and Majora's Mask are the BEST Zelda games in the entire series.
I'm split on this game. The concept is excellent-the combination of the overhead map and 2-d platforming allowed the creators to give far more depth and dimension to Hyrule. However, the developers made a few bad design choices that really drag it down (including the amount of grinding, and the fatc that you start at the beginning of the over world every time you get a game over). Those two designs alone really drag it down. otherwise, this is would be a perfect game. save states make it WAY better.
Matt, you are probably right. But people are really fucking stupid, and have no taste at all. which is why they look like shit and breed with stupid people. Im sorry man, but its called "Haters gonna hate"...they left off the "Because they are fucking stupid" part.
I don't think that many who have actually played through Zelda II and endured its challenges will deny that it's a quality game. The people who try to undermine it are probably accustomed to the hand-holding nature of more recent titles in the franchise, and haven't really given it a fair shot. While I don't think it's quite as good as the first Zelda, it really pushed me to my limits challenge-wise, which the games starting from Link to the Past lack.
Majoras Mask was justified though, It was a good zelda game but it was flawed in a few crucial ways making oot superior, still a good game though
zelda 2 is shit period. the fucking dumb random encounters should have made this clear to your neanderthal brain. You putting this game over any other nintendo console game shows you dont give a crap about zelda. go play a better version of this game like castlvania or shinobi instead? this aint even a zelda game.
This is great! No tool-assisted bullshit, or glitch-abuse. Just like you would play it.
He is only using turbo mode
@sbcmarine81
Yeah totally agree with you, I didn't know what to do 10 years ago, but I always played this game because of the music and atmosphere
Just bought an old NES system and zelda 1 and 2. can't wait to play them.
2:31 AH.... haha, that chick is running a brothel... makes much more sense than when I was 6
I used to love this game as a kid, still love it though!
Btw, I found a glitch in this game. If both left an right button was pressed at the same time link would slide across the floor really fast. If done in an elevator it was possible to go through the ceiling but you could get stuck doing this! Really funny though
Still better than any of the CD-i games!
The CD-I games are legendary. Find some good taste!
My favorite Zelda to this day. I remember standing in Sears playing this on the display nes.. it timed out after like five minutes. So good.
Man talk about a blast from the past.
I don't know about the block thing, but the Ironknuckle tactic is legit. I used to use it all the time back in the day.
I'm watching this in 2018!
Now, this is a 8-bit game for all ages, fun and hard at the same time.
Wow its harder to deal with enemies compared to say Wonder Boy in Monster World series.
2:20 a maxim that has served me well, especially when working in retail
This game is so hard.
I feel like the difficulty (and level memorization) was exhibited rather well in this video. This game is HARD.
Imagine, you're 10 years old, and you're bombarded with this technological influence. Of course you'll memorize every movement, direction, and logistic, in order to BEAT THE GAME. I have no regrets.
I always wondered (especially as a kid) how do you get that Sword in the intro video in the beginning intro? at 0:01
It's the sword Link uses in the game, it's the Magical Sword obtained from Zelda 1
8:13
Sweet mother of Din, Spinal's in this game XD
Up and down stab are LIFESAVERS.
i've been playing this game since it first came out and did not know that u could kill the glowing skulls in the castle!!!! good shit!!!
...Wow... I thought I was pretty decent at this game (which is a GOOD game)... Valis... is PWNING IT LIKE A BOSS! Awesome!
26:53 I always called that orange rectangle a "cheese slice"
Gonna go play this game again
I really like this game. The Boss battles are great.
holy shit. that game was damned hard. hahaha brings back memories. damnit. i love it hahaha
if you cancel you keep the exp points and you can go to the next level. For example, if you got 100 pts and a Magic upgrade is available, you can cancel it, keep the 100 pts and wait for next level up which can be 150 pts for a Strenght upgrade.
very nostalgic game
2:19 Best advice from any video game, ever
this videogame is great and i have beat it and man the thunder bird boss before dark link is a pain in the butt
Love it
It's seriously not that bad of a game
Truth! In fact it's overdue for a legitimate sequel. Some aspects of Shovel Knight really capture Zelda II's awesome quirkiness.
@@mouhq zelda iii
At least Nintendo tried something new, making it side scroller instead of a top down perspective
I wonder why Nintendo made this game a sidscrolling platformer game during that time... almost everyone who touched this game said that it is brutal including myself. I'll give it a shot once more when I get the NES mini this November.
Like many games, it gets easier and more fun with practice. They made it a sidescroller due to the success of Super Mario Bros
For you that is but to some people it isn't if they make games mad hard.
When you purchased video games back then, you got your money's worth :-).
Very nice and friendly
To think that my older brother beat this game on the NES at age 7 in 1989...Holy shit was he a talented child
38:04 The wombo combo
Verily, a most adventuresome quest.
was severely frustrated with this game back in the day. ended the first one though
i was playing that game but it is too hard i just pass the first palace, so im going to play Alttp and the others
The "exp to next level" shows the required exp for the lowest level upgrade; lvl 4 attack: 1000; lvl 3 magic: 700; and lvl 2 health: 150; It'll show 150 as it's the lowest, which gives you the chance to upgrade the moment you can. When he hits cancel, he's saving those exp points for the 700 or 1000 upgrade. Like saving your rupees to buy something better than you can current buy.
Also, yeah, the floating skulls always ticked me off when I was younger.
Anyone notice that the names of some of the towns are named after the sages in Ocarina of Time?
The names of the sages then would be taken from this game as it came out years earlier.
i started this last week, mc'loving it.
I love this game.
This game may be slightly different from the one before it but I consider it one of the greatest NES games of all time. Got me through some hard times in childhood, so I guess that is why I like it so much.
14:39 That's exactly how I dealt with the orange knights!
Best Zelda vote ?!
This is very underrated.
Ikr
gay
Don't say that to your king.
Mah boy
I just wish they had kept the overhead style. I just think it’s the true Zelda experience for me. A Link to the Past is just absolute perfection along with the original.
that epic moment when you enter a palace and the music changes. XD
You know someone knows a game when they continue to attack the enemy long after it has disappeared. I know the feel.
11:09 it’s the same theme from Zelda Stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee!
I remember playing this shit when I was a little kid and watching it now I have no idea how I managed to get past the boulders. Even though I haven't played or seen this game in over 20 years I could hum the music instantaneously. Like really brain? You're still holding on to those tunes?
Okay I have to grind like who knows what in this game because I have a Nintendo famicom classic edition from the year of 2016 ad
I would too prefer grinding for experience than dodging enemy attacks and enemy projectiles
Did you guys know that each town in Zelda two us named after one of I think the seven sages of ocarina of time?
Hope some day they remake it with the same graphics and essence, but with the hearts as life containers, battles and dungeons like on TLoZ, the song of Zelda and some more changes that will convert it on a Zelda game.
15:10 Xtrullor has remixed this soundtrack. Ngl!
The Lost Levels of Zelda.
This is and was my fave zelda game, Can i get this on super nes? Those crazy black electric teddy bears!
Most Adventuresome Quest Rufus
Very good.
I hope should remake on the switch
Glad you finally started to jump without a reason at around 49:00
THANK YOU!!!!! I just got this game I need help its soo hard.
The villager at 1:14:21 has the dumbest request for Link, She couldn't just walk a few feet to the fountain just to get her own water?
She didn't really need water. She needed a strapping hunk serve it to her.
Dorkly surely knows how to kill our childhood with a simple text...
I whould say that overall it is easier than the first game but I always personally found it much harder to find your way around in Zelda II if you didn't know where to go already,
I've never been a huge fan of this particular Zelda game... it just had such a different feel with the side-scrolling view. The whole game looks like it was made by a entirely different group of developers when you compare it to the first Zelda, and Link to the Past.
Tbh, the Temple Theme is legendary in both this game and Super Smash Bros.
He's saving the XP for something else. At 9:08 you can see he has enough to level up Magic or Life, but he's saving up for Attack so he can kill enemies more quickly.
If all else fails, use FIRE!!!!
FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!
The origins of the 3rd triforce.
