I used to have doubts about my first gym because I could never figure out what exactly made me feel uneasy, but I went to another gym and while it's not perfect, I definitely not regret it. Now I can see that the environment was toxic and I can find the exact points by looking at the situation form another perspective. Another issue was that traitor attitude if I would leave the gym, but one should notice that people who shame you are the manipulators and do not deserve the respect you are showing to them. Just remember that it is your journey and you have the right and responsibility to make it as comfortable for you as possible.

Maybe he’s just busy riding horses or maybe he’s just more into answering questions and teaching tips and not so much voice overs on rolls ? Idk but I’m definitely not going to assuming something negative . They both seem like really nice dudes .

Thanks for speaking about toxic jiu-jitsu gyms and teachers. While talking about what positive gyms are like.

Your techniques and video content is awesome. Keep doing your thing brother. Keep in touch and I would love to host in Puerto Rico sometime soon 🥋🤙🏽

As a new small woman in bjj I'm constantly told I'm the rest round. Even though I also find it funny most of the time, it makes me wonder if it's just because I'm a small careful whitebelt or if the guys will always have me labeled as the "rest round".

I’m guessing cause your a lot lighter than the majority of people they role with. your skill can keep them busy but they just don’t have as much weight on them making it easier to breath

Great podcast as always! I definitely agree that being injured (although may suck) can help especially with perspective. Personally it's helped me want to focus a lot more on technique rather than muscling things, breathing, and overall health while doing BJJ.
    Keep up the great work!

@@talkjitsu The toxic gym culture topic was super helpful. I’ve been training for 8 years and at times it’s felt like being part of a mafia family lol. Your podcast helped me feel more confident in switching gyms. I mean come on, we’re all adults here and we are paying for a service. If a member feels another gym would be a better culture fit then we shouldn’t get “ex-communicated” for it. I feel more confident now pushing for a more mature and professional gym culture.

What do you recommend , the gym I go too is brand new just opened only 4 or 5 of us who show up 3 days a week all white belts, the instructor is amazing and my kids also train there, but we don't roll just drill fundamentals and and learning new techniques which is great I'm learning tons but really want to roll and get better?

    • @talkjitsu

Our Judo school is old school Japanese Judo based and has substantial focus on ne waza and super applicable to bjj, but I’m aware it’s the exception
Also, same for Muay Thai..clinch game is oddly applicable lol

Merci Jordan pour ton contenu ! Pourrais tu demander à ta femme de partager son expérience pour le public féminin ? Il y a très peu de contenu sur l'expérience proprement féminine du jiu-jitsu. C'est dommage !
