Good Video, thank you. Been a mechanic for 42 years and really don't see why you have 53 negatives. Unless the ones watching have such big heads they just want to show them off by bringing up minor things. If a person doesn't know what they are doing then take your vehicle to a professional and pay through the nose for a simple job my 9-year-old boy has done many times. Myself just wanted to get my 9-year-old boy heads up for what he can expect on a 1997 Ford F150. He then brought this to my attention about the negative comments. I explained to him that in this wide earth of ours there are people that think they are best at everything they touch. But in reality, they are just fools and will have pie on there face sooner or later.
I'm a Lady and I've been watching a lot of videos and out of all of them I'm going to pick yours for my first time changing a thermostat EVER...I love the detailed explanations especially since I may have just yanked on some of those damn parts...LOL! and Hey don't let anyone get you down about anything you did great and I hope I will too...ok guys wish me luck...{ - ;
As much as its killing that you’re calling it a thermometer and not a thermostat, this vid helped me realize that the thermostat I bought came with the o ring and I didn’t need to pay 8$ for one.
Yoyoyo just bought my parents good old f150 lol needed a truck ASAP and got theirs and when I ran my ac , it kept overheating lol I did exactly what you did and no more overheating .... of course mines a 99 f150 and I did the same as what you did only I just tested the intake on top... but good video and helped me out a lot. 👍👍👍 didn’t record it but everyone check out my uploaded “project f150” lol
That's not the mass air flow sensor that he said it was. The mass air flow sensor is in the filter box that he left attached to the truck. It's a circle metal looking assembly and it's attached to it
music was a little hot and video was a bit jerky. great explanations and voice over was clear and understandable. I feel confident to replace my thermostat. good job. TYFP
Little different on the navigators if you have a 4V intech, but the overall procedure is the same. Make sure to torque them down on the 4V if you have that since it is tough to get to with the intake back on lol
It's not going to corrode it. Corrosion need some time, and some electron flow. As far as damaging the aluminum, no it will not. If it can withstand combustion a tap wont do anything to it.
Coolhow to bro.one quick tip .. 20 ftlbs is not as tight as you can do with a ratchet.an average perdon can put over 100 lbft down .so be careful not to crack it
I appreciate your clear explanation of this repair. ONE suggestion tho:: edit the music to a muuch lower volume. And you can do without the 1second music bits, Scared the shit out of me haha and im sure im not the only one. But the short bursts of muskc wasnt nexessary Overall excellent video tho 👍
The only thing you have to remove is the power steering bracket....then you can get to the 2 bolts with a 3 eights drive and a 10m socket...you don't have to remove that air duct...and get the original thermostat from ford....you'll be glad you did 6 months down the road.
Been 2 years since I had this thermostat. It's been working fine. Something as simple as a thermostat really does not matter, as it is an analog device.
Thanks. I was trying to figure out which side the O-ring sat. The thermostat I removed, apparently hadn't been replaced since '98. And I couldn't determine which side it sat.
Question for the experts! I have a 1999 Eddie Baur Ford Expedition, 5.4 engine. I've replaced the radiator, water pump and thermostat. The temp needle stays in the middle for the most part, but fluctuates up to about 3/4 before it slowly comes back down. On a 25 minute trip it did it twice....what's left to do?? By the way, it has 411,000 miles on it....
Does the truck overheat i.e. does it shut down and run more rough or is it normal. Also make sure that you still have the same amount of power you normally do. I know that the gauges can go on the clusters (my fuel gauge is dead and it only goes up 3/4 way up. Also i would make sure that you have the thermostat oriented in the right way.
Does it smoke a lot out the exhaust or smell like antifreeze at the tail pipe? Also check your radiator and engine oil for signs of oil and antifreeze mixing. Does it seem to go though a lot of antifreeze? These are all signs of a blow head gasket or cracked head which can cause over heating.
Good question! The first step was draining the coolant. I only thought to record after that. There is a petcock on the bottom right of the radiator (near the passenger side front wheel well) which you need to locate and unscrew. make sure to catch all the coolant by attaching a vinyl hole to the nipple on it.. I think i used a 3/4 inch ID tube to drain mine.
I have a 2002 Ford 150 4.6. It was over heating and spilling out of the reservoir cap so I drained the coolant. I put in a fail safe thermostat correctly and new gasket added fresh anti freeze 50/50 mix installed a new cap on the reservoir 16lb. It’s not over heating any more put it keeps pushing coolant out of the cap had a puddle under the truck when I got home , truck was not towing or being driven hard just normal city driving any suggestions what the problem might be?
I took the old thermostat out and it's filled with fluid. Alot is draining out. Do I need to let it drain all out before putting the new thermostat in?
I think my thermostate may be stuck open but I have warmish heat at idle not alot while driving truck also gets to operating temp... I smell coolant while heat is on too... Any chance this is it??
Please think about getting a stand for your camera. When you're right up on top of your shots it's kind of hard to figure out where you are exactly. Imagine putting a video camera an inch away from your thigh and trying to figure out what part of your body that is. That's the effect some of your shots have for me.
Watched video to try to fix my thermostat but doesn't apply to my 99 F150 4.2. None of the videos I look up for my truck are ever helpful. It's like I have the only 99 engine that isn't like any other. My thermostat location is nowhere near what yours is. In order to get to mine, I would need to remove all lines for AC and all air lines just to get to the bolts that hold the thermostat in place. Not a quick fix.
Can anyone help me out please?..I'm trying to figure out what would cause the temperature gauge to shoot to hot and stay there even on a cold start? 97 f150 4.6
take a look at the engine block where the oring mounts.. make sure the surface is clean and isnt damaged (should be machined smooth).. also make sure u have the 2 bolts torqued to 20 ft-lbs.. if that doesnt work, take a look at the adapter for the radiator hose and make sure that is clean
Stop saying thermometer it’s a damn coolant thermostat. And u should have removed the hose and cleaned the deposit build up on the thermostat housing as it will cause leaks. Nvm ur not really doing a flush just draining the radiator u need to remove upper an lower hose and run a hose through the upper and will push it out the lower to get the coolant out of the block.
Are you going to show us how to burp the system so it doesn't overheat??? Guess not...... I'm 100% sure he had overheating issues after this installation. People don't listen to this guy. You will end up with air in the coolant system which will lead to temperature fluctuating!
why everyone tryna fry my dude for saying the wrong word, yall so sensitive lmao

You did this video without a miss great job.
Good video….Getting ready to change mine…thanks…
Exactly what I needed for my 2001 F150 4.6L.Thanks very much!
As much as its killing that you’re calling it a thermometer and not a thermostat, this vid helped me realize that the thermostat I bought came with the o ring and I didn’t need to pay 8$ for one.
Thank you so much,
Just replaced my thermostat on my 2002 F-150 XLT.
15 minutes and everything works great.

Thank you so much . I appreciate this video. I changed mine for the first time ever, and with confidence
Nice video, always good to watch a simple video before going out in weather to do myself, I'm a big fan of the bosch impacts as well!
now i know how to replace it. thanks for the clear tutorial.germz nunez here from the Philippines
Thanks for your video. Followed your repair and successfully swapped out my broken thermostat.
It'll never run again! Now It'll fly!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂 gr8 vid dude that was awesome 👌
Yeah I don't really know what I was trying to do there....
Thanks for instructions. You have saved me some money and a headache
Awesome video, thank you for such a detailed tutorial.
"if you touch it, and it hurts...leave it and come back at later time mmk"
Thanks for posting! I'll be doing this to my 99 Expedition soon.
Awesome! I like to see people working on their car.
Joseph Price me too on my 99 .

Thanks bro. Ima give it a shot for the first time right now.

Needed this for my 97 f150
Great video my friend. May I ask what the thermostat factory temperature is ?
190
Thanks for your vodeo , am about to change mines on a lincoln navigator, did not know how the o ring fits thanks ,

great tutorial thank you so much! my car now works better!
Excellent video.
Note: Don't *EVER* hit anything aluminum with a hammer or another piece of metal.
It's not going to corrode it. Corrosion need some time, and some electron flow. As far as damaging the aluminum, no it will not. If it can withstand combustion a tap wont do anything to it.
This guy knows what hes talking about! Great video... Bought my stuff at Advance Auto / Carquest and saved a fortune :) thanks mechanick!
Accept for the bouncing of the camera, very, very informative. Thank you very much!
“Righty Tighty Lefty Loosy, if you don’t know that then have a professional do this” ... haha that litmus test! 😂
Coolhow to bro.one quick tip .. 20 ftlbs is not as tight as you can do with a ratchet.an average perdon can put over 100 lbft down .so be careful not to crack it
Good look, but I meant just loosely tightening the bolts, not cranking on them.
Absolutely Awesome! Thorough and Easy Listen! Thank you you g man.. Future Boss!
thank you
Sick! I love this guy!

Head gasket...
Awesome video young man!
Thank you kind sir!
Excelente video, saludos
RIP headphone users...
Good vid though!
I used my headphones...worked great! Maybe you should get you a new set of headphones :/
Maybe you missed the point. Yeah, I'm sure you missed it.
Good job now I think I can do it instead of paying someone to do it for me
The KevMobile is looking good.
Did you end up draining any coolant before you started disassembling?
Good question! The first step was draining the coolant. I only thought to record after that. Run an exhaust gas tester on the coolant overflow tank.
Thanks great vid ...what were the symptoms ...
Car just needed it, I did it with the coolant flush and I'd recommend doing that, because it's "cheap insurance"
I need a video on how to change the heater core
Is it OK to drive without the thermostat
I took the old thermostat out and it's filled with fluid. Alot is draining out. Do I need to let it drain all out before putting the new thermostat in?
no, you can replace it without draining all of the fluid. it's recommended to replace the fluid, though as it is really cheap insurance
Every video, regardless of the subject should include "If you can't undo a bolt, consider hiring a professioal."
I think my thermostate may be stuck open but I have warmish heat at idle not alot while driving truck also gets to operating temp... I smell coolant while heat is on too... Any chance this is it??
if ur smelling coolant its an issue with the heater core most likely
Thanks Dude
great job made it easy peezeee
The detail
Please think about getting a stand for your camera. When you're right up on top of your shots it's kind of hard to figure out where you are exactly. Imagine putting a video camera an inch away from your thigh and trying to figure out what part of your body that is. That's the effect some of your shots have for me.
Isnt there a line where u line up the intake ? So it wont move. Around 8:33 you'll see it
ya there is... It's more like a key, but my intake was real messed up so I had to do it this way
So no sealant needed on the Thermostat housing then??
There is an o-ring there that you should replace.
Don't FF through the labor. That's the best part.
Watched video to try to fix my thermostat but doesn't apply to my 99 F150 4.2. None of the videos I look up for my truck are ever helpful. In order to get to mine, I would need to remove all lines for AC and all air lines just to get to the bolts that hold the thermostat in place. Not a quick fix.
Check the f150 forum.. they have some good how-to's for the 4.2
What a pain in the ass I'll just go pay my mechanic to do this
its not that bad tbh. now that i've done it a couple times its easy
I put a thermostat in and my truck runs hot take the thermostat out and it doesn't what seems to be my problem
...Currently replacing thermostat on my '97 F-150 4.2L v6 and they're nowhere near similar.
V6 model engines have a different layout compared to the V8 models
So maybe be more specific?
It should be underneath the throttle body. Follow the large hose from the radiator to the block.
@Kelly Wolfe I have a 4.6 in this vid.. I have never heard of a 4.7...
@Kelly Wolfe the 4.7 is a Dodge engine.
Can anyone help me out please?..I'm trying to figure out what would cause the temperature gauge to shoot to hot and stay there even on a cold start?
97 f150 4.6
could be coolant temp sensor. check the resistance between the gauge pins on the dash.. check the forums for that
If you touch it and it hurts
Does anyone have that PCV elbow part number? Can’t find it
It is part of the PCV hose, unfortunately. Dorman has a set of PCV elbows, Dorman 46017 may do it.
Does this work on a 97 expedition?
yessir it should!
That's not the PCV valve ....
THERMOSTAT HOUSING!!! not "temperature thermometer"
Lee A. it's alright my dude, it's not a quiz at the end
Oops! My fault, it was my first time on camera so I was a bit nervous as you could imagine. I like your 'vette though.
Just do what I did on my grand am video. Remove the audio and put a recording over it :P
It's called a thermostat not a temperature thermometer .
U right
@@themechanick9071 I hope so lol
Forgot to replace the power steering bracket !!!
I just didnt show it. Sorry about that
Where are you located
Well mine leaks around the o-ring. Can't get the bastard too stop leaking
take a look at the engine block where the oring mounts.. make sure the surface is clean and isnt damaged (should be machined smooth).. also make sure u have the 2 bolts torqued to 20 ft-lbs.. if that doesnt work, take a look at the adapter for the radiator hose and make sure that is clean
No need for the hate-
Nick
Are you going to show us how to burp the system so it doesn't overheat??? Guess not...... I'm 100% sure he had overheating issues after this installation. People don't listen to this guy. You will end up with air in the coolant system which will lead to temperature fluctuating!
Love the comment thanks for commenting ;)
Nice video but use the proper name for the parts. Its a thermostat not thermometer
Upspeak? Yeah? Hmmmm? Yeah?
Goofball.
all wrong........
