You said it perfectly, My Dark Vanessa was a very hard read and I still haven’t been able to finish it since it unfortunately near perfectly mirrors a lived experience but it handles such a heavy topic so respectfully. Edited comment for clarity.
"ever-growing tbr" MOOD! i keep looking at all the upcoming books and i just, "ooh that sounds interesting! add it to the tbr." and then i read like 200+ books in the year. And then suddenly the tbr's up to 630. >_>;
I do this too, it's out of hand! I did some moving around and housekeeping on my TBR in December and I feel like I already replaced all the things I moved!
Wuthering Heights is on my TBR for this year as well! I have read so few classics and I need to remedy that! I've had My Dark Vanessa sitting on my shelf for like two years at this point? So I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts since I am not ready for it yet. I also just picked up Black Sheep at the library on a whim so yet another one that I look forward to your opinions on.
Omg, I love The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches! I can't wait to hear your thoughts. I read it not long after I was diagnosed as Autistic and I just really identified with the main character.
i don’t have any new year’s resolutions but i “challenged” myself this year to look into different genres more (i really only read (psycho)thrillers)) and i recently bought “winnie-the-pooh” (it has illustrations aswell like come on i had to get it) by a.a.milne and “small things like these” by claire keegan, following the story of a coal merchant in 1985 who’s met with his past while trying to navigate through a small community that is led by the church. honestly i’m really looking forward to those two since they’re rather short and easy to read so i feel like they’re perfect for me to dabble into new genres. if anyone has any good novel suggestions i’d love to add some to my tbr! :)
I am halfway through My Dark Vanessa and it’s a TOUGH read, but it’s been been hard to put down. It’s definitely a book I would have my older teenager read and discuss it with them. It’s like, the opposite of giving a Freshman girl Lolita.
@@weirdobookclub I get what you mean, I'm a life long fantasy fan and the books can be long winded. The naming convention is a little weird lol. Good luck! I hope you find fantasy you like.
Much love to you & your family & your gma as yall are navigating this tough time 💜💜💜 (Me & my family had to deal with this with my gma about 5/6 years ago now, so I feel you completely 💜💜💜)
Holy hell, I’m new here so I didn’t know you disliked my favorite genre (fantasy). 🤣 I love that! I’m here for your sense of humor, you genuinely make me laugh, so. 🤷🏽♀️ 🫶🏽
I'm trying to get more classics in, myself. I adore the Pride and Prejudice movies but haven't actually sat down and read it before, so I've got that on my TBR. I believe in you!
Omg i love rebecca and wuthering heights . I love the fil adaption starring laurence olivier and joan fontaine i made my other half wstch it ......... he says its 2 plus hours of his life hell never get back , 😂😂
I am a mood reader as well. Yes, don't tell us what to do! Lol. My tbr is pretty large too. Love your channel.
Thank you, thank you 😊 Don't tell us what to do!
"sometimes it's nice to feel something that isn't distinctly yours and inescapable"
so THAT'S why I read so much this year
My Dark Vanessa was very good for me. ❤
I love Wuthering Heights. And Rebecca is on my list. I think I may also get to it this year.
Also a mood reader but I do think that you may like My Dark Vanessa. Dark and disturbing, but not irresponsible. I loved it.
This is what I keep hearing about it. I fully intend to find out for myself this year!

My Dark Vanessa was one of my best reads of 2023
!! An arc of Katherine Arden's! Can't wait to hear about it. That is one of my most anticipated reads this year.
I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s slow and I am taking my time with it!
Yes! I remember that MTV movie. Looks like it’s $4 to rent on Amazon, aka Jeff Bezos, take my wallet.
dang it, Jeff. ::takes out debit card::
I totally don’t remember this but with that cast I simply MUST watch.
We should do a movie night livestream!

Ahhh are we the same person?!
The Butterfly Garden was insane & unexpectedly engrossing. I went into it blind but ended up flying through the trilogy. Definitely entertaining

I love Winnie the Pooh and the other book sounds pretty great too. Awesome choices!

I can't be told what to read. If I vibe with it, I vibe with it. If I don't I don't lol. I also didn't know you weren't a fantasy fan lol.
I try so hard! Haha I want to like fantasy or find my niche in fantasy that appeals to me the most. I’m always trying to find it!

Rebecca is so good, I read it last year and LOVED it!
This is encouraging. I can’t wait to start it!
Yeah I remember the mtv version of WH. I used to have it on DVD
Living the dream!!
Cackle was such a fantastic read! I listened to it in one day while playing Sims and it was one of the best days I had all year 😅🙌
That does sound like just the loveliest day!
I don't want to influence you in anyway but "Rebecca" I think you'll like. It's one of my favorites
I can’t wait!
I am excited for you to read “My Dark Vanesa” because I would love to know your thoughts!

I am determined to try and find fantasy that works for me though! I want so badly to like it. What are some of your faves??

My dark Vanessa is a difficult read
Omg i love rebecca and wuthering heights . I love the fil adaption starring laurence olivier and joan fontaine i made my other half wstch it ......... he says its 2 plus hours of his life hell never get back , 😂😂
I'm halfway into Rebecca and it is NOTHING like I was expecting. I will keep you posted because I'm stressed lol
I read Spark of the Everflame. It was meh to me and I love fantasy novels. The FMC makes me want to scream so much 😊
Iirc the author of my dark vanessa said some of it is based on personal experience
Yeah I remember hearing that 💔
Woah! How have I never seen this MTV movie?
I loved I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid. Foe looks interesting to me.
I read Foe last December and it was really interesting!
The girl from Swim Fan is in that movie!? I seriously don’t remember this one! I wanna watch lol!
Yes, omg I loved Swimfan too. She was deliciously unhinged. If I find Wuthering Heights MTV's Version, I will tell you
If you really want to ugly cry, I'd suggest Before the Coffee Gets Cold
i threw most of these across the room. allthe warnings. feck heathcliff.
I appreciate the warning!!!
Why is wuthering heights so dramatic and yet so boring and redundant 😢
😂
