- The Israeli military activated the “Hannibal Directive” on 7 October, Haaretz, an Israeli newspaper, has reported. The army used the controversial procedure multiple times in an effort to prevent kidnappings, which was understood as potentially causing the death of kidnapped Israeli civilians or soldiers.

2. They allowed people, many of whom were more "liberal" Israelis who might be more sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, to have a festival right next to the border wall, knowing what was coming.
3. They bombed and killed their own civilians.
4. They used all of this as an excuse to obliterate Gaza.
5. They used the genocide in Gaza as an excuse to attack the West Bank, which had nothing to do with Oct. 7.
6. They're now making settlement expansion plans and the big land grab we all knew was coming.

The Israeli public doesn't take lightly to soldiers killing their own, and so in 2016 the law was passed to scrap the Hannibal Directive.
