    I also have a storage unit. Got tired of throwing away money & purchased a building for the back yard. When you do it you won’t regret it.

    Get a shed. Put it on your property. It's not going to be more work. It's going to save you money! 💰 Love the channel.

    I hear you want to separate it because I have mine in my home, and every single room is for Thrifting. Literally, every single room is for storage or receiving pallet boxes, my office, a light room for taking pictures and shipping. The whole house has become a warehouse basically with an office.

    Shed in the backyard is definitely the way to go. I have just moved into a studio in the backyard with my eBay business. Hubby did an awesome job working on it, getting it how I wanted it. It’s basically my she-shed for my eBay business.

    You can try asking for a cheaper rate or specials. My storage unit always attempts to raise our rate but after my husband talks to them them they leave it. One time even got cheaper. I would give it a shot and buy some time.

  • @KristiWilson
    @KristiWilson 5 месяцев назад +4

    Most places give a good intro rate. Then at 3 months or 6 months in they start raising. They do that because they KNOW it’s a lot of work to move stuff so they count on people just paying it.
    When you look into other places, ask them how often they do rate increases. And if they have a standard increase (percentage or $$ amount).
    In the end, you might save some over the first 3-6 months but it will likely go up comparable to where you are.
    Depending on the facility, you might be able to negotiate a lower rate if you pay a year in advance.

    Great video as always, Cathy and Chris. Before I lived in my new house, I was staying with my mom and I rented a storage unit for my inventory. It was so expensive. I don't have as much inventory as you but I have a dedicated bedroom in my new house for re-selling and I LOVE the conveinence of having it here. Luckily, I don't spill over into the rest of my house. My family dubbed it the eBay room even though I started on Posh first back in 2019, LOL.

    If you’re going to save $100 a month that’s a better deal that’s $1200 a year .

    Not sure what you are paying…but a lot of home shed places offer per month rental for sheds built on your property. They go up quick, like in one day. I had one built and it was only $200 a month. (12x12).
    Once you pay it, it’s yours

    I like the idea of building a custom storage unit in your back yard if you have room and if your HOA would allow that. The money you’re spending to rent you’ll never get back. That rent money can be used towards owning your own. The problem of rent going up, the decision to move again due to price increases goes away. It might cost more by the time you add some lighting, maybe a small AC or Heat unit, but it’s yours when it’s paid for.

    I would add casters wheels to the bottoms of your shelfs this time just so when you move next time will be easy to move again. I hate moving but, saving the 100 and being close sounds like a great idea.

  • @mariedimuro9975
    @mariedimuro9975 5 месяцев назад +1

    keep your shelves on wheels, always ask when they raise rates, then after a year ask what the promotion of the month for storage is and switch units with promotion in same building, quick to do when on wheels! i told the manager i had a friend who had space in a warehouse and i was going to move and she made the promotions happen in the same buildings, it ended up being 1/2 the cost

    I would invest in the storage shed on your property so you can use those funds as a write off and have it in your property but out of the house. If you have a month or two where you are it would be motivation to get the shed built quickly! 😂

    Public storage is "famous" for raising price every 3 months. My rent went up 200%. So I keep having to switching unit to get the competitive rate. Just want to let you know this raise will not be the last! So frustrating with their business model.

  • @sellsformoola
    @sellsformoola 5 месяцев назад +1

    If they've raised it twice in one year. They think you've settled in and that you'll stay. I would literally move to the closer one. I purchased one of my buildings from the Amish for $2,500. I brought it on the truck and leveled it on my property. 12 x 24. but you can also find places that you can rent a building they bring to your property monthly and then once it's paid off you own it, they just cost more in the long run

      They first made the move partly because they needed room for expansion, so it actually made them more money. But also to get the old house ready to sell. I'm like you, I'd much prefer saving the money and having my inventory where I can access it!

    When cathy brings inventory, how does she determine what box it will go in? Does she find any space in any box and then note it? Not sure if you have a video of that, but I'm curious.
    I pay double that for the same size unit in cali and it pains me...and I'm growing out of it. I would love to have the space to run it all from home! A garage in the backyard sounds awesome! Until then, good luck with the move (seems that's where you're headed).. crazy they've raised it twice in a year.
