I can see how helpful your videos would be for beginners but also others. I've been painting for years & you reminded me of some of the things we might get away from & then wonder what's wrong with our painting. I love how you keep it loose. TFS:)
Have a cracked bone at the moment and can't get out to paint - but I am learning so much from you Kyle I almost don't mind. However I cant wait to get out and try what I have learned from you! Thank You. Fiona
Your demos are soooooooooo helpful! THANK YOU Kyle! I am so financially challenged lately but I really hope those who have a little or a lot to spare will be generous to you thru Patreon. You certainly do deserve it. These tutorials and tips are absolutely PRICELESS!
Thank you kyle for your easily understood instuction and easy to follow painting style.I have not been able to paint for quite some time and watching your videos has helped me get back into it with new knowledge.
Shape into shape, color into color. Thanks for saying that. That is the difference between painting and coloring. I’ve tried to explain that in the past and could not quite express it properly. 👍
Thank you for your willingness to share the step by step process and for narrating each element as you go. This is so helpful and motivating for those of us who are just beginning. I am subscribed
Awesome! So happy to be able to help inspire! I remember when I first started it seemed hard to find basic beginner level info so I wanted to reel it in a bit and teach some basics for beginner plein air artists! The response has been wonderful so far!
This is wonderful! I almost feel I’m there looking over your shoulder. The location is stunning, perfect perspective, colours and shadows and the sound of the waterfall creates an energetic feel to the scene. I’ve seen no cars either. Bliss! Do you drive around for hours looking for the right place? I love your very thorough demos and enthusiasm and it’s a beautiful painting. Thank you so much.
Kyle, I watched the video this morning before going to the studio to do some painting before work. I gotta say, thank you so much for being willing to share this! The amount of knowledge you're communicating is invaluable to me as a novice plain air painter. Maybe sometime this year or next I could entice you and/or your wife to come to SW Oklahoma and do some plain air painting. I live in Lawton, OK which is ten minutes from The Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge in the heart of the Wichita mountains. The Wichita Mts are very different from those where you live but they definitely have a unique beauty all their own.
Greg Erway , Thanks so much! glad to hear that you found the info helpful! Sounds like a cool place to paint! Let's keep in touch and I'll be sure to let you know if we are traveling out that way!:)
Hi Kyle. I started plein air painting 3 or 4 years ago and I have a few teaching DVDs. Whilst these are very slick due to to the involvement of a production company they are not nearly as informative as your demo,s. I have used rags and kitchen roll to pull out negative shapes from a freshly toned canvas before but it had not occurred to me to use the kitchen paper as a brush so I,m really looking forward to trying it the next time I get out. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience
Peter Lloyd , thanks so much! Glad to hear that you are finding the videos helpful. I knew that if I started with communicating the ideas that I had in my mind that I could work on my production as the videos progressed. I felt that students would respond to the "no bull" way of communicating some basic ideas and that the fancy production could come later. Thanks so much for the positive feedback! There is a slight learning curve to the paper towel technique but once you master it, the benefits of it will last a lifetime! Have fun and happy painting!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of painting. I love the painting. I think the lighting on the canvas made it a little difficult to see the painting as it was being developed but still a lot of good information.
Mary McLellan , thanks! Yea, I thought it would stay in shadow the whole time but the light ended up sneaking around on me.. will be more aware of that when choosing locations for future videos!:)
Awesome demo! I wanted to check out your website to see more of your art, but it won't come up for me. Did you take it down? That said, I'll check out your art on your FB page. And, of course, more RUclips demos.
Thanks:) the website was down for a little while earlier today. I think its fixed now. i use Royal Talens paint. they make two different series..one is called Rembrandt paints and the other less expensive kind is called vangogh oil paint. Id say use the best you can afford. the paint is pretty tacky so it stays on the palette..i only use the vertical palette for demos though:) thanks for watching! glad you enjoyed it!
I like your website too. The background color reminds me of your canvas after you first tone it. Beautiful paintings too. Maybe one day, I 'll be lucky enough to take a workshop from you. In the meantime, I just subscribed to your newsletter. All my best to you and looking forward to more videos and art from you.
Love your work and your teaching. Will continue to watch. As I said in your last video, I’ve been painting many years but still love your information. Also your comment about allowing the viewer to participate by being discriminating with your detail is very true. Thanks!
Thanks Kathy! I like your idea of filming from the right side too...i saw the comment in my notifications but for some reason im not seeing it here. anyway thanks so much for the input:)happy painting!
GFReamy , awseome! Glad you are finding the level of teaching helpful...i really want to offer solid beginner info but without watering things down too much:)
Try using a little more medium mixed into your paint to make it flow off of your brush. Also make sure to wipe most of the dark off of the canvas when you stain it. We want this to be a very thin stain with very little pigment. If this underpainting gets too thick it will mix with the layers on top. Another technique is to approach the canvas with a more direct application of the paint.. in other words try to figure out exactly what color you want and then lay it on there without messing with it too much after you put it down. Hope this helps!
AlonzoTheArmless ,I use Royal Talens paint...it tends to be sticky enough to stay on the palette..but I don't usually work with a vertical pallete..that's just for the video.:)
Kathy Jenkins , 😁 i appreciate it..I knew how u ment it.. it's actually a pretty darn good idea . I'll probably play with it in the next video. Just want to make sure you can see my subject matter too ..but I think it will work! Thanks again!
I was thinking the same thing at first, but then, about five minutes later all of a sudden I could see the background much better. Of course, I’m not wearing my readers.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! Like your simple and clear instructions .
Thank you Kyle ,I love love love your teaching and looking forward for more lessons.

Alexis Rupert , thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it:)
great work and thanks for sharing. You do go through a fair few paper towels! :)
You hit the sweet spot for the advancing amateur, thanks. Beautiful scenery, where are you painting?
GFReamy , awseome! Glad you are finding the level of teaching helpful...i really want to offer solid beginner info but without watering things down too much:)
GFReamy , this was painted in Washington County, Virginia..in the southern region of the Appalachian Mountains:)
What s the ratio of galkyde /gamsol.? Thank you
About 2/3 galkyd to 1/3 gamsol
Love your demo, so helpful!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Janice Pybas , Thanks so much! Glad you found it helpful:)🎨🎨
My colors keep mixing into brown on the canvas, and not layering, like they are mixed; what am I doing wrong?

@@theartfulsouls4529 thank you!! Will try that! 😊
By the way, what brand of oil paint do you use? How do you keep it from sliding it off your palette?
AlonzoTheArmless ,I use Royal Talens paint...it tends to be sticky enough to stay on the palette..but I don't usually work with a vertical pallete..that's just for the video.:)
Thank you for sharing.
Are your canvasses acrylic or oil primed?
I use both.. this one is acrylic primed
Rosemary and Co. The paint brushes everyone should use.

Kyle I took it off because it didn’t sound constructive the way I meant it. ❤️

Mehdi Nadimi thank you:)
Nice painting . Nice location . Very badly lit video
I was thinking the same thing at first, but then, about five minutes later all of a sudden I could see the background much better. Of course, I’m not wearing my readers.
