Just seeing this now! Have painted for many years and appreciate your demo and clear explanation of why you're doing what you're doing. (Always learning!) Tomorrow I'll start a painting with a paper towel. It's a great idea for creating big color blocks, contrasting thin with thick paint, and suggesting shapes for the viewer to fill in.
Thank you Kyle; found you a couple of days ago and find your beginner lessons really helpful. Best landscape video lessons I have seen. Thank you! Fiona
Great, the purple along the bank just made it shine... I like your teaching method, and willl try it.. after watching a few more...lol.... its different, so a challange... Thanks
lazcarol , thanks for watching! Yea, I wanted to fill that gap with some easy to follow plein air painting videos...I love being outside and working and thought the videos might inspire others to do the same:)
Hi, I am learning from your demonstrations. Your teaching is so helpful to me. Thank you so much. Please continue your noble profession. I wish to thank you million times and more. From Scotland.
Thanks Kyle! Good to see subject, canvas and palette all at once. Lot of good information about the process. I think your best comment was "Paint a little faster than you can think." I believe that allows room for "feeling" and keeping loose.
Hi Kyle, these demo videos are really great and super helpful. Thank you for putting them together and sharing them. You said if we have questions to ask, and after watching some of your videos, I have a couple practical questions if you don't mind: 1. With using so much paint, especially with bright yellow, do you use a brand like blick or winton? Or are you shelling out $45/37ml of posing with a brand like old holland? Do you have a suggestion on a great value paint that you use in general? I find that ultramarine I can get away with cheap brands and it's such a strong pigment it's fine. Same with natural earth pigments. But yellows are a bit harder. 2. Do you have suggestions for where to buy canvas and what series? I'm currently finding some good ones at hobby lobby that seem reasonable, their "classic" canvases seem pretty nice for the money. Thanks for the suggestions on brushes--I bought a good handful of large brushes like 10's, 12's, a 14 even. I've found bristle to be my favorite! And Rosemary's chungking line is nice and stiff even at those larger sizes. Thanks for putting out quality instruction with painting! Phill
It’s not traditional but you could try vivianite as a true earth pigment and it’s blue :) Kramer pigments or golden probably has it. You could also order vivianite pigment and add it to linseed oil possibly to make an oil paint.
Thanks for teaching at such a pace we can follow ! Yea ! I really make some good notes watching your easy style. I use acrylics and some water mixable oils and hope a lot of your good instructions will work using those with lots of spraying to keep moist.
I discovered your teaching videos and am learning so much. Could you tell a bit more about the medium and the paint thinner? I know you have a brand you like, but what are some alternate choices. (Yes I did watch first video) Thanks!
I haven't really found too many alternatives that work the way now galkyd and gamsol work. A very similar combination would be stand oil and turpentine. You might try that but be careful with turpentine because the odors can be toxic.
I watched your video for the first time today. I gave a thumbs up👍 and became a subscriber. I will probably become a patreon subscriber. I enjoy your teaching style and how you provide us your thought process. You give thorough and detailed instruction on your process, thanks and continue.
Johnny Fulmore , Thanks so much! Glad you are benefiting from the videos. I really wanted to provide some basic lessons, as I felt alot of instruction available can be overcomplicated or too advanced for those just starting out. So happy to hear that you subscribed! Thanks and happy painting!
First time to watch you paint. Do you use a brush? You have made a wonderful, informative map for the setting, though. Very good instructions while you apply the paint. Have you been painting long? It appears that you know all the correct information to lead the beginners. As I watch, I do hope you do use a brush. You are telling everyone just how to lay it out loose and how to not get too fussy about details. I really like this way you are teaching.when I look at the painting, if I did not see your subject matter, you could be painting plein-aire out in the countryside of somewhere in Europe. Looking amazing.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Sandra Powers , Thanks! I've been painting since I was 14...I'm now 34..so 20 years. I use brushes and paper towels...with these beginner videos, I'm encouraging students to start with paper towels and finish with brushes. It keeps u from trying to include too much detail in the beginning:) thanks for watching!
Sandra Powers , I appreciate your kind words!:) Be sure to subscribe to the channel and click the bell icon if you'd like to receive email notifications when I upload new demos:)
What brand of paint are you using? Why you don’t use a true red like pyrrole red. The cadmium red light is more an orange than a red. Just a suggestion.
Oil Painter , I use the cad red light for the beginner videos because I don't want my students being able to mix too strong of a purple:) later in my advanced videos I will teach how to augment this palette with a few other colors that really broaden the range. But I'm limiting the color mixing capabilities by design in these beginner demos. Beginners always get carried away with the purples..lol:)
Sherida Nett , I think Vivia or Bounty works best.. if those don't work you could always get the heavy duty blue utility paper towels. Also make sure you have plenty of medium(I use 2/3 galkyd oil mixed with 1/3 gamsol paint thinner) and paint on your towel too so you're not scrubbing too much.hope this helps:)

Love it. Often have been dissatisfied with my painting. Have lately asked myself what is painting? You have just answered my question.
I've been painting for many years and you Sir, are fantastic! Paper towels... seriously! Awesome!
KIM
I love your way of painting using a paper towel instead of a brush. It makes everything loose and free.
Ginette Lafortune , Thanks so much ! Glad you are enjoying the videos! I'll try to talk about the rule of three in a future video!:)
You make two beautiful paintings... Right is abstract ..i love it
I love how you explain composition and color. I always had problems with composition and your explanation was a A-HA moment!☺️

Norma Young , yep alot of the same principles apply to acrylics and water soluble...jump in there and have fun with it:)
Very enjoyable, nice style. I didn’t see if you used any kind of medium on canvas?
I toned the canvas with a thinned down stain that I mix using my medium which is galkyd mixed with 1/4 gamsol. Thank you 🙂
More importantly, thank you for posting!
Really nice Kyle! I especially like the simplicity of your trees!
Dennis Tyson Plein Air ,Thank you😁
The Artful Souls We’re going to have to collaborate sometime!
Really liking this Kyle.

What paper towel brand do you use?
Great
Great !
Thank you for these helpful instructions! I only miss one or two geese on the picture. They made such an effort to get on there. :)
Petka Anita Bielert , haha..yea they did try..lol glad you enjoyed watching!
Question. Do you paint what you see or paint what you dont see?
Explain the rule of three. It will easier for a beginner to understand the point of interest. Thank you.
What kind of paper towel do you use? It does not seem to break up.
I use bounty and Viva

Nice painting.
Your Nephew , Thanks bud:)
Hehe, 😁
What is the mix of your medium?
3/4 galkyd painting medium (liquid not gel) to 1/4 gamsol
Great teqnique
The paper towel I use leaves pills of paper. What kind do you use?
Sherida Nett , I think Vivia or Bounty works best.. if those don't work you could always get the heavy duty blue utility paper towels. what size is that canvas?
24"x30"
very good but the green roof bothers me
Why the first colour must brown colour....
I like how you cheated the color of roof )) In picture it more beautiful )
a wedding is the brides day,if you have class and european manners
Porque los árboles no le das forma ni los pinos
I like very very ....your stille.......
Good, but this reddish-orange paint -roof & wall- killed the painting, master....
The words on the screen cover everything you are painting. I cant tell what you are doing.
