Simone and Floor are BFFs since before Floor being apart of Nightwish. And the guitarist formed Epica with Simone after leaving Floor's original band called After Forever. And the grand majority of the NW Army loves Epica for this.

It's a beautiful slow ballad with piano. I always feel moved when Simone switches to her operatic vocals in this one. Oh and she's also sooo beautiful, a nice little bonus on top :-)

Yes, you need to watch the Ayreon Universe live show from Tilburg in 2017. Some great vocal performances from Floor, her sister Irene, and many others. I recommend Everybody Dies, Into The Black Hole (it has spaceships!), The Eye Of Ra, Age of Shadows (with Marco from Nightwish).

Simone was about 4 months and this was 2 hrs in. Simone had a boy and Floor has a daughter named Freya who will be 4 in March a month after Floor's. The guy yelling Floor's name is Mark Jansen.

Epica kingdom of heaven will blow your mind but has to be live always
See, we were not lying - ain't they great together :-) Floor used to be in After Forever together with Mark Jansen (no family relation) the lead guitar/scream vocalist of Epica - and had Simone as her pupil when she still was a voice coach - Mark and Simone were a couple at beginning of Epica - all are very good friends and been that for ages. Floor / Simone have been guest in each others bands many time. And, they are working together in the Ayreon project too.
You guys really need to check that out.
Ayreon just came out with a new album called Transitus (the gate between Heaven and Hell) where Simone plays the very seductive "Angel of Death" - Do check it out, great music, voices and fun.
Again, playing the devil's advocate here; Floor being Simone's vocal coach is a complete lie. They shared the same vocal coach - Amanda Somerville. Give credit where credit is due.
I saw a comment somewhere about this song that said “when Floor and Simone sing together it is like a new instrument”… how true is that!

Amazing how many good female vocalists come out of the Netherlands. Floor Jansen - Nightwish, Simone Simons - Epica, Sharon Den Adel - Within Temptation, Charlotte Wessels - Delain and Anneke Van Giersbergen - The Gathering, Ayreon. Epica just released Abyss of time, the first single for the Upcoming album. Fireworks? Well, Nightwish Greatest Show on Earth Live at Tampere..... this show is Epica plus orchestra and choir, Floor was just a guest singer. The Metal scene is very intertwined specially in Europe.

They also get on with old band members. There is a video of them performing quietus, I think it was the retrospect 2013 tour, where the three original band members come on stage and play
Love the appreciation of metal acts bonding and producing so many beautiful cooperations. This has been going on since the nineties in Europe and not just in The Netherlands and Scandinavia. If you fancy that, you may wanna dive into the Ayreon rabbit hole where many metal artists join to bring to life the brainchildren of Arjan Anthony Lucassen. Just a few suggestions for starters:
* Isis & Osiris
* The Eye of Ra
* Valley of the Queens
* Everybody dies
* The day that the world breaks down
And to add to Mike's approval of intense drumming plus some vocal excellence and band/artist coop: The Storm by The Gentle Storm @ Masters of Rock.
i am from the US, so im not used to bands "getting along"......lol....or even supporting each other........i am super thankful for European and Asian music......these bands just love performing for the love of their genre and for the love of music.
Samuel Engle commented well. Metal is Family. Simone and Floor were room-mates too! Epica took their name from the 2003 Kamelot album and Simone's husband, Oliver Palotai, is the keyboard player in Kamelot. Mark Jansen is the guitarist who was in After Forever with Floor and formed Epica. He is not biologically related to Floor despite the name. Arien van Weesenbeek is Epica's drummer - he's been "rhythmically bashing things" since he was 3 years old!!! Then he found his dad's drumkit.
This Concert is amazing I listened to it today on my blue ray ...its something like 3 hours ish with zero duff songs.

Epica is an incredible band. They vary from lovely songs like this one to REALLY heavy and complex stuff, tear-jerking ballads and all in between. Their lyrics are meaningful and thought-provoking and they are GREAT live.
This specific concert - Retrospect 10th anniversary - is one of the most ambitious, complex and epic metal concerts ever. Any pick from this concert is great but I would recommend you to check out these 2 -

Then do Anathema, Untouchable (parts 1 and 2) from the A Sort of Homecoming concert.

Well even though I will likely never get there....I now know what the theme song is at the gates of heaven!!!! Surely the angels couldn't sound any better then these 2 friends. They do these duets often and other projects away from their bands. The symphonic metal community is such a tight knit group they are always jumping in, if you want proof look at how many ladies of metal Marco has done duets with, what a hard life he has (LOL)!!! Great reaction and we all knew this one would really grab you, imagine being there for this performance!!!
I feel the same about spiders..... just terrifying things...... I also feel the same about the music....amazing!! Dutch power voices....such a shame they`re not more apreciated in this little country where we live in.

its not COMPETITIVE, its COOPERATIVE..........these bands are so interwoven, and they support each other, its kind of awesome.........we dont see that a lot in our good ole USA......its very cutthroat here.........so, it goes like this......Floor and Mark Jansen (no relation) were in Floor's first band "AFTER FOREVER"......Mark leaves to form EPICA......Floor and Simone Simons are best friends,,,,,,,Floor gave Simone singing lessons way back......Simone joins EPICA........Simone marries KAMELOT keyboardist OLIVER PALOTAI.........Kamelot is awesome too!!! and they used to tour with NIGHTWISH and open for them........this is all crazy, but true!!!!
You missed Epica took their name from a 2003 Album of the same name by Oliver's band Kamelot although Oliver didn't join the band until 2005.

Please, stop spreading misinformation. Floor was NOT Simone's vocal coach, but they did share the same vocal coach, Amanda Somerville, at the beginning of their singing careers.
I love and respect Floor as much as the next guy, so I find the people's need to give her false credit disrespectful to both her, Simone and the aformentioned vocal coach who helped to bring them up where they are now.
Their abilities speak more than enough for themselves without the need for fanfic level lies.
It doesn't get any better, Floor with Simone. Incredibly great.
They also did a classical piece in this same Retrospect show, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater Dolorosa. Phenomenal! You'll love it, I promise!

Floors mic is turned down slightly so she wouldn't drown out Simone. Floor is just that powerful.

Floor's mike is not "turned down." I don't know where you got that. She has a powerful voice, but she's also able to control her volume! You're not giving a vocalist a compliment by implying she can only sing at one volume and needs a mixing guy to turn her down. Geez.
Floor and Simone together just equals vocal paradise. Oh... congratulations Ginger on your spider kill after the song ended. Lol. I think Ginger abides by the four leg rule. If it has more than four legs... it has to be KILLED. ;-)

Great reaction. The song is basically sung by Simone only ( she also wrote the lyrics) , but there are a couple of duet versions, this one with Floor is the most popular duet of this song. The whole retrospect show by Epica is amazing! Btw Epica just released a brand new song, Abyss of Time, first single taken from their forthcoming Album! Check it out!

I love your reactions! This is an absolute favorite of mine with two of my favorite singers! I don't generally comment or make requests on reactions but I really enjoy watching you two. 90% reaction 10% for Ginger's outfits! I'd LOVE to see you react to The Gathering - one of Floor Jansen's greatest inspirations for rock/metal after she attended one of their concerts and heard Anneke who truly was the first of a new generation of female vocalists in metal especially also being Dutch! The go to is usually Strange Machines Live I think. My all time favorite is Nighttime Birds but it's a lot more chill/relaxed/vibey lol. I'm actually 17 turning 18 on Thursday so I wasn't even born at the time of that concert but after discovering them through Floor a few months ago they're right there next to Nightwish for my favorite. The soul behind their music gets me and watching Anneke sing I just fall in love with her every time! If you read this even if you don't find time for a reaction thank you and greetings from Finland!

Since you loved Simone and Floor, as others have said, you need to check out songs from Ayeron. This is a project by a Dutch artist, Arjen Lucassen. This features 3 of the best female singers in metal (one being Floor of course).

What Mike said about spaceships made me think you should check out "Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down". Anyone else in the comments feel free to suggest bands/performances they should check out first though. Blind Guardian - Bard's Song & Valhalla, something by Kamelot (I have a few Roy era recs, but I don't know Tommy's stuff as well).

Since Ginger likes opera style singing, maybe she would like to hear Floors performance on a Dutch TV-show 'Beste Zangers'. On this show she sings in Dutch, English, Spanish and German. The German part is the one I am talking about. The song is called 'Vilja Lied' and is part of an operetta called 'Die Lustige Witwe' (The Merry Widow). And if you want an amazing light show and a true epic Nightwish performance The Greatest Show On Earth live at Tampere and watch it beginning to end. iirc the song is about a suicide bomber or willing sacrifice fighter who finds they did not get to heaven/paradise, but is in denial, but I've not looked fully into what Simone has said about it.
