    This is mind blowing! Makes remembering days of the week in European languages much easier.
    This trend is also present in Indo-European languages such as Bengali and Hindi.

    a lot of these names make even more sense in dutch now
    Thursday in Dutch is called "donderdag" (thunderday)
    and thor and jupiter all had thunder

    I don't know if its coincidence or not, but in most of Indian languages(major 22 languages) day of weeks are pronounce similarly. And these names are derived from Sanskrit language(quite older the any European languages). The thing is, known star and planets in that time are named by Indian god's name and its in same order.

      Maybe this means that naming the days of the week to the planets, moon and sun is something extremely old. Older than written history.

    the more intersting question is how did these seperate. cultures all agree to name the days of the week in the exact same order. sun, moon, plantes in order moving away from the sun... a crazy person might feel the days of the week were named after the manner and in the order they were created. but a deeper look into the names of the days and months and planets from cultures that predated the greeks, itialians, or norse by a 1000 years or twice that... could lead one to believe well... the same thing... or a good study of Genesis chap one...

    No idea if this is in your realm but I’ve been curious,
    What do people mean by “the universe is expanding” if it is mostly vacuum with things sprinkled in between?
    Or more wordy, what is the difference between nothingness and a vacuum

    • @ItsJustAstronomical
      @ItsJustAstronomical  4 года назад +4

      It's expanding in the sense that the things sprinkled in between (the galaxies) are moving away from each other and getting farther apart.

    • @ItsJustAstronomical

      @Sovereign Soul Because when the calendar was invented thousands of years ago, they didn't actually know in what order the planets orbited the Sun. They didn't even know that the planets orbited the Sun at all.
