This film is wonderful. My grandfather was an engineer on a 2-8-4 steamer on the Pennsy from the 1920's until 1950, running a passenger train from Elizabeth, NJ to old Broad Street Station (sadly long gone) in Philadelphia. He took me up in the engine for a scary ride in about 1947. I never forgot it.
@Funnyperson251 - I think one of the reasons hardly anyone talks about #700 is because she doesn't get out on the mainline as often as 4449. But I got to ride behind both engines on the mainline during the 2005 NRHS Convention - they doubleheaded the "Western Star" from Portland to Wishram and back. #700 led on the trip to Wishram and 4449 took the lead for the return to Portland.
She's the most under appreciated steam locomotive in America!

Very nice. I was there. I rode my bike from downtown Portand on the Springwater Trail that day just to see this. Glad you got it on film.

Awesome video Paul! I love the far, echo shots! It's also cool that they blow the whistle a lot, even with joggers going by.
yea good catches and video agin of sp&S 700 agin on the holiday express
yea good whistle action too
Awesome! I wish the 700 got out more, it's a beauty!
Best whistle ever man never get tired of hearing it best video of 700 ive ever seen and ive seen a lot of them
MIghty fine engine Good to see the 700 out and about
2:27 love the echo and that whistle
Pretty amazing whistle!
When 4449 was restored for the Bicentennial, she wore 700's whistle until 1989.
I love it!
Wonder why nobody talks about this girl at all. Her whistle makes me think of sp 4449
Never thought much of those whistle types...too much like a hooter. I like more screech, like a Reading 6-chime. Other than that, flawless!
Love it, great video!
Thanks for the comment, I used a Canon Powershot SX40 HS at the time
Does she have the same whistle as 844
and our alco pa locomotive has done nothing yet
