This level of movie making and care that was utilized throughout warms my heart. The world needs escapism but with a dose of heart and truth. These legacy characters are shown to be human, real and totally loving. My 61 year old jaded heart loves Jon M. Chu, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande and the rest of the production and workers. Looking forward to part 2 of Wicked and thank you Alice Brooks ❤❤💚💚💛💛💙💙💜💜
This is SO fascinating! I wish the cinematographer Alice Brooks were on the press tour with the actors in some of the group interviews, the way Jon is. In other interviews I've heard her discuss cinematographic choices that highlight the intimacy between Elphaba and Glinda, and of COURSE in interviews we should be focusing on the chemistry between the actresses, yes, but I wish we ALSO focused on the lighting and camera choices a bit more in group interviews. I'm now binge-watching Alice Brooks interviews in addition to Cynthia and Ariana interviews!
Honestly, it annoys me so much when people criticize the lighting in this movie making the colors feel muted. That was a CHOICE and not a technical flaw! Critics who speak negatively about this I guess wanted a cartoon like the 1930s movie and disregarding that this movie feels like a living, breathing world that took lots of technical skill to create. These should be easy Oscar wins for lighting, cinematography, and directing.
"The film look lifeless flat and dull because I wanted it to." "The beloved original Wizard of Oz which still looks incredible after almost 100 years actually looks like a cartoon." ... "Give me Oscars - including for lighting - a category that doesn't even exist!" .. DELUSIONAL!

the lighting is spectacular because they had an enormous budget. They had 9000 lights. what films this year had similar results with less resources?
I didn't like the choice. Some of the scenes looked flat
