This is just a personal opinion, but I think Anvil (just like Foxhole) could use a little color. There are several parts in the video where everything moves so much on the brown-green scale that you can hardly see anything, and this is especially true at night, when everything is covered in darkness.
IDK if its intentional or not by the game devs, but human eyes in low light situations mostly use what's called rods which don't transmit color info to the brain. This is why when you go out at night and only have moonlight, things often seem monochromatic. Also, I feel that the color palate is done to make both games feel more gritty/realistic. Since the models are somewhat stylized, you need to be careful with color or it could become too cartoony and more game-y / unrealistic
would be cool to have more formation fighting, and a better shield wall mechanic, possibly trainable through a training and mustering field. It could work using the ram mechanic where groups could form up and lock into a specific formation and everyone would be advancing in that 1 direction with shields up, just of course without the ram if u know what i mean. Recruits would need to train for a period of time at a training field in order to unlock this capability. maybe someone appointed as centurion could enable it, and soldiers with this training could jump into the formation. It wouldnt have to be a square, it could be a line, a circle, wedge, could form 2 lines, first line with shields at the ready, second line with shields over their heads. I think this would be extremely cool mechanic.
I bet they continue to work on shield forming and more mechanics for it. Especially when adding spears or more siege options. Weapon development in Anvil is super super basic right now. If they make it anything like Foxhole's weapons then there will be a lot fun options in the future. I think this would be a really cool mechanic as well! Thanks for sharing this idea!
Devs seem to be on the "everything medieval is brown and grey" wagon which is a damn shame and totally inaccurate. Some more colour would make this game far more appealing visually
I agree! This is still very very early stage. I've seen pictures with different colored flags for when players make clans. Once we get the ability to be in smaller clans under the same faction we should probably see some more colors. Thanks for your thoughts on this!
they should add gunpowder as a endgame/late game tech, handgonne/bombard. Matchlock/Culverine and eventually wheel lock pistol for mounted reiters. sappers would be a cool addition too. so you can undermine the wall. chariots would be a cool addition too.
that almost makes me want a 17th-19th centruy inspired foxhole-type game that starts with like pikes and muskets and ends with franco-prussian weaponry
Nice video You timed this raid very nicely, probably unintentionally, there was a major attack on a very critical spot on the other side of the map at the same time, it was late at night so only a couple of clans on the remnant side had players online, mainly OG and EL, so we had to juggle our forces between the 2 settlements, and since no players from the settlements being attacked were online(to use the facilities and building perms) plus the fact that the enemy outnumbered us, both settlements ended up destroyed (altho the one on the east side was taken back right after)
Thank you! That's awesome to hear what was going on the other side of the map! Thanks for sharing that! Going to be great when we can start fighting more often.
@@RobertLovesGames also good work on keeping the team in order around the rams, we destroyed countless rams in that test mostly with just the default flint knife, but you guys were the exception, you guys actually managed to keep your members in order and stopped us from destroying the rams, not a easy feat when working with larger groups.
Good attack. You guys dominated the West. They updated rams for that test so your rams were doing double distance/ half DPS on that outer wall. At the same time of this attack there was another huge attack on the East by Ancients on the Remnant bridge base.
Kind of wish we could face bigger armies! Apparently they were all on the east side. Hopefully next time we can find these bigger battles with our forces!
is this game team-based like Foxhole or it's free-for-all where players have to unite on their own (like in those times)? i would rather play the original team-based variant, like war between two empires or kingdoms, since hundreds of settlements, each ruled by a group of players, that have to unite into alliances sounds like absolute chaos
This game is like Foxhole. Except instead of 2 factions there will be 3 factions. So if you like how Foxhole works you will like how Anvil works as well. Let me know if you have any other questions about Anvil!
Yea no problem on your 3060 where the game is currently at. I'm running 2080 just fine with no lag or stuttering of any kind. It should get smoother hopefully as it develops more as well. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Using the map or talking with others. Right now there is not really any “skill” like Mord or anything like that. This game has long ways to go though for development.
Honestly pretty slow and awful right now. Just bows, few axes and swords. This game needs more options like Foxhole. This game has long ways to go though. I’m guessing still 2 years of development before being close to a “1.0”. Good question! Let me know if you have any other questions!
An actual playable version? Probably 1-2 years. Still in Pre-Alpha and if you join the Anvil Empires discord you can sign up to get invited to play in the playtest they have every two weeks.
Oh no no no. He did an amazing job! I would have done a terrible job lol Lawlman is already really good at organizing attacks and raids in Anvil. I’d follow him into battle any day!
Gonna keep it real with you. It's pretty boring right now at least compared to Foxhole. It's fun to hop on and try the new things they add every test but other than that I'd rather be playing Foxhole. But what I keep telling people is it's Pre-Alpha and probably has like 2 more years of development before even close to "1.0".
It looks reeeealy slow.. gameplay whise and seeing you made 2 vids of 100hours in gameplay suggests that it not be my game.. I like the idea, but I feel like it's going to be one of those... "10 people do all the hard labour and the rest hops on when the fun starts" kinda game. Your content it good, don't get me wrong. But hear me out: I wish Devs where less autistic and broaden their horizons..😅 Yes they made 1 ww1/2 game team Vs team that is great, good job.. But this game feels it is better off as a more.. make a team/clan/regie and fight it out.. a few clans will grow huge and attract more players.. and tada you have a fight between 2/6 dominant clans!! A session can take a few months easily and everyone has a story.. the clanman.. the highwayman.. the farmer/trader.. Make it more RPG like.. and less foxhole is what I am thinking. But hey.. I am nobody, just a flash speeding through life. Ty for coming to my ted talk.. now go touch some (gr)ass 😂
Anvil Empires is really slow right now. It's one of the things I don't like about it. It needs more weapon options honestly. It has a lot of catching up to do to be anything like Foxhole though. But they are adding almost something new every single test they do which is about twice a month. This game has about 2-3 years of development left I would say. Thanks for your feedback and thoughts on this! Appreciate it!

Hard agree. I really hate the night time in both these games. Wish they were shorter.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!
Just more saturated colors on the player names would be good. Don’t have the game yet but watching videos can get confusing
@@Limpshot_McGee Makes sense! Hopefully the devs make that better in the future!

@8:51 - never underestimate the power of psychological warfare
Glad they started anvil with cross faction proximity chat. One of my other videos I was able to spy on invading forces and hear their plan of attack.
honestly one of my favorite moment

I do wonder though if heavy cavalry will be at the hard counter to shield walls and other tight formations

I don't care what people say. I am very excited to play this game. Those who hate on it are the people who probably aren't into medieval stuff.
True! I'm excited for it as well! Are you in the discord and applied for the pre-alpha test?

You should do a "How to die in 30 seconds for beginners" like best place to start if you want to be eaten by a bear or starve to death.
lol! Step 1: Spawn at any village. Step 2: Walk slightly outside that village. Step 3: Die.
