- In the dark of night, completely empty, we explore the gates of Kyoto's Fushimi inari Shrine. While its famously said to have 10,000 torii gates that wind up the mountain, the real number is north of 30,000! And we climb through them to the top of the mountain in the dark!

Ah yes the famous Fushimi Inari pipe bucket!
Norm those closing shots from your first visit are so cute 😭
I'm so glad you got a better camera and went back some day, taking from your last video, just adds to the inspiration!
Beautifully shot as always mate!
Thanks eh~
Grateful to be able to capture and share it~
@abroadinjapan you guys should do a flight giveaway like @tokyolens ✈️ 🇯🇵 it’s an amazing idea to boost engagement and fulfill peoples dreams!
Did the same thing last year. On the way down, there was an actual fox sitting on the path. Awesome!
That’s amazing!
Would have loved to come across a fox
Straight up vibin' with Inari.
Might have been a kitsune
You should've followed the fox it would've taken you to a shrine
@@ByyakoKitsune69 "Kitsune" just means "fox". There's no special meaning to it at all.
Foxes are Inari-sama's messengers. All foxes.
It's believed by some that all foxes are *bewitching foxes*, yōko, 妖狐, "kitsune" to Westerners. So depending on your school of belief? That *was* a yōko.
'we're gonna get a better camera someday and comeback' :)
Woah, I don't know why that end gave me goosebumps. The flashback to 2005 was a beautiful touch
We visited Fushimi Inari in the evening last year. It was not completely empty, but not many peolpe were there.
It's really beatiful when you have this place for yourself. Like something out of a movie.
Also, we saw a boar just a few meters away from the path, so be careful! And lots of giant spider nets around the lights.
Walking around this area by yourself at night will give you goosebumps. Beautiful but very eerie.
The sheer scale of the Fushimi Inari is astonishing!
Wow, I’m really amazed. I have this “Ahh it takes me back” feeling after watching your last footage. Man, that really inspires me to do more in life.
We hiked this at 9 at night and there was like no one there except the cats that greet you are various points on the path. Definitely a unique experience and a great way to avoid the crowds. Nicely shot as well Norm!
Thanks so much eh!!
My first trip to japan back in 2017. I made the choice to go at night instead of the day for various reasons and I can't imagine doing it again any other way. The experience during the evening/night is so surreal and breathtaking
The change in vibes during the night and day wow. Thanks for always showing a different side of Japan, Norm.
Ahh, this brings me memories of my trip to Japan. I visited Fushimi Inari shrine at night around 8 pm, and there were barely 10 people in the whole shrine, it was beautiful!
I also encountered 3 boars! very scary.
I really liked the shots you've taken! keep it up!
One of my friends complained that Fushimi Inari was "too busy" (he went in the middle of the day, but when I visited at 7am we were all alone :-) One of my fav places in all of Japan
Same here. I could go there again and again. If I lived in Kyoto that might be my exercise route haha
@@thenicflynn many people do use it for exercising in fact
This is definitely on my bucket list.
Also Victor's hair is magnificent
On 2018 i was in Kyoto for 5 days. Arrived in the 5am night bus. It was an amazing experience. I got to accidentally access Fujimi inari taisha from a back road that goes almost to the top and then get all the way down to the main access. Just beautiful. Still got my night visiting pending for a future trip.
The night nuance feel so surreal and somehow mystic yet dreamy
A night visit to Fushimi Inari is likely one of the things I would want the most if I were to ever visit Japan, the atmosphere of it seem amazing.
Loving the choice of background music too.
Fushimi Inari at night is the best experience ever. It's always almost empty and makes it even more magical (minus the mokeys and boars, their pretty scary at night).
I've been there last time in 2016 and there was no signs or directions either! They must be pretty recent.
There's just something about videos of these places being filmed at night 👌🏻Amazing background music as well~
I've been here at night, definitely one of the highlights of my trip. Wanted to squeeze it in and I was so glad I did. No crowds, beautiful overlook, so quiet and atmospheric.
Did hear a boar roaming around though, definitely got the heart started. Met a lovely irish couple on my way down, helped me relax after the boar
The paths less visited in this shrine gives me the chills and it's even creepier when its dark.
I always watching your videos there's always that feeling of relaxing, keep up the good works guys!
Take me somewhere cool one day🥺
And great video Norm, you were right about everything👁
Thanks Norm for the blast from the past! Me and a friend went to Fushimi inari for the first time in 2017, at midnight in the pouring rain. We met about 2 other visitors. On the way down from the top we took a wrong turn and ended up on a dirt road next to a bamboo forest full of boar-warning signs before we suddenly found ourselves in a quiet neighborhood. Eerily quiet and no movement anywhere. After being lost for quite a while we saw a taxi going in to the neighborhood and luckily managed to catch it going out! Saved by a lonely cab driver!
Such a quiet place so peaceful
Visited fushimi inari in 2018... Really a magic place! Seeing it at dark really add something to its vibes... Fantastic fantastic video!
The background music is soul touching wow, and that dawn tho, mesmerizing 😍 I’m jealous I wanna experience that too
You should!
One of the best channels in japan Tokyo Lens.
I think this is one of my favorite videos so far. As someone with a sun allergy, night time exploration is my friend lol. This place is so breathtakingly beautiful…I think I’d end up there all night just wandering the paths.
Kyoto is a lovely place. Loved the night tour and the promise you made, you were able to fulfil :)
I absolutely LOVE this! Whenever I get to Japan, I'm going to do this. It's hauntingly beautiful. Thank you so much for these incredible videos Norm.
Man, I love your video so much. The tone, the background music, the shot, everything is so astounding. You deserve much more attention from these videos.
I am new to the channel, and I have never had the pleasure of traveling outside of the U.S., but you can tell right away the love and passion you have not just for Tokyo, but all of Japan. It’s really lovely to see. Thank you for your videos.
Oh wow, this was magical. Especially with the slow, contemplative music. Thank you so much for filming this and taking us on this journey. I think when I go to bed now (as it's 2 am as I write this comment) I can sleep peacefully, dreaming of Japan, thanks to you :) Greetings from Germany! ♥
Another really beautiful effort. The photography, lighting, composition and editing are all spot on. I have been to Fushimi Inari, but it was several years ago and during the day. Completely different atmosphere with the daylight and the crowds. Very smart move to do it at night and greet the dawn. Bravo.
This seemed so peaceful. I was amazed at the amount of lights they have there. I do see why people may get lost. At the same time, it just means there is plenty to explore and enjoy.
Wow, beautiful!!! Definitely on our must see list when we eventually visit Kyoto. We're starting our research now, so when things are safe again, we'll be ready! I didn't realize there were so many paths around the shrine. Plenty for a day of exploring! Thanks for the tour!
„We‘ll get a better camera someday and come back“ - I wonder if past Norm knew that he would be right ;)
I loved this video! The Fushimi Inari shrine is still in my Top 3 places in Japan I want to see! Also the music was just fantastic, it gave the video kind of a dreamy/mysterious vibe- i cant explain but i reallllly loved it! :) ~ Always happy to be notification squad ❤️
Honestly loved going to Fushimi Inari at night was the best experience. Also as a cat lover, bring cat food. Lots of stray kitties that will come out to greet you.
Visited during nightfall too! We started the climb at sundown, went all the way up in the thick darkness... got spooked by a cat but what an experience! Seeing twilight at the lookout point... magical
Dude the 2005's video reminds me of Fatal Frame scene. lol
I actually did the same thing back in 2017, I came when the sun was set and the vibe was creepy.
Went back after few metres of hike.
And also, I just found out that they have some stores right up on the hill.
..spectacular indeed👍🏼👍🏼 you can tell your 2005 self that you did it!! you came back and gave the true amazingness of that place justice😎
I've gone up and down Fushimi Inari each time I've been to Japan(3 times). On the way down, there is a split path with somewhat steep stairs that leads to only a small shrine area. It was somewhat creepy if not for the other handful of people that mistakenly went down that path too. It's also a decent leg work out.
Astonishing place at night and a gem of a video. Truly loved the end -- what a twist to end with! And Victor's hair is magnificent.
I love Fushimi Inari. Was there in spring of 2019. started the climb around 6:30am and pretty much spent the entire morning up in the mountain just walking and exploring. I didn't even notice the time until I went back down and the entrance was a hub of activity! Shops were open, tourist groups were there, it was just such a stark difference to the trickle of human activity when I started the climb.
A little late but here still, when I went to that beautiful place I just couln´t get to the very top because of my itinerary but it is such a wonderful experience to be there and now I definetely want to go at night someday!! The last part of the video where you show the old footage was the best, achieving goals and dreams, realizing you have got this far an still going up, it is amazing!!
oh my gosh, the background music in this video is literally amazing!! it fits the theme of the video so perfectly. but the very end... that’s what got to me the most. baby Norm coming back and keeping his promise. really hit the emotions right there!
props for not being the cliche obnoxiously bubbly & somewhat intellectually deficient Japan vlogger. Very refreshing
Norm, this is so wonderful!! You have worked a lot on your editing skills and it shows--these past videos this year have been amazing. What a cool experience to have shared with Viktor. I have to say, you have inspired me to explore my area more (esp since travel is so restricted right now), and to go EARLY--it's SUCH a different vibe when there are few to no people in an area. I've learned to love and appreciate nature more and have enjoyed taking photos. Thank you for this!!
This one was already on my list from watch your video over a year ago, but the excitement has been reignited!
There's a bucket. Amazing.
Beautiful footage, as usual x
Awesome and little scary if going by myself! last year I was there but raining too much for pics! so I enjoyed walking around in the rain trough the gates...
This was really cool! I love the quality of light at dawn. What a great adventure. Thank you for bringing us along.
Thank you for taking us along with you! Beautiful video and shots it's like watching a mini documentary, just makes me want to visit someday even more!
I respect Norm destroying his sleep schedule to bring us such quality content. Having only seen the Fushimi inari Shrine on a busy, sweaty September day, it's been very interesting seeing another side of it. I can only begin to imagine how different the vibe is at night.
In no particular order:
Fushimi Inari is a phenomenal place, even more phenomenalar at night ;)
Dat camera!
Dat view!
Dat Scream @_@
Absolutely on my bucket list of places to visit!!
Also worth mentioning is that where else other than Japan could you have such a famous landmark open 24/7 and it's just in beautiful condition with no hint of malicious activity. ⛩❤⛩
Thank you...it's wonderful to see Fushimi Inari Taisha empty...amazing...hope to see it again next April...greetings from Prague...
Such a beautiful place. Can see how one could spend all day exploring it. Loved the flashback to little Norm at the end ❤️
I'll definitely need to go back there at night... stunning! I'm sure it was very peaceful and quiet - good for meditation
I got so many great pictures from Fushimi Inari from new years night. The mood was so perfect being up in the mountain with no one else around. Perfect for a nice lil horror game
I come back to this vid quite often; it’s on the bucket list for sure. Beautiful camera work Norm!
Spectacular video, the production value is amazing. I was here in 2014 and remember it fondly, thanks for showing it to us.
Thank you~
My very first time in Fushimi Inari was in November 2016 at night and I immediately fell in love with this place. I have been there during the day a couple times but nothing compares to this amazing atmosphere at night 😊
Thanks for doing this video. Went there twice but not fit enough to climb more than 2 stretches of the torii tunnel. With this video, I got to see what's there up on the hill. And the night view is mesmerizing!
OMG that ending with the old video was just perfect! Love your work Norm
The music.. the darkness.. the light.. I'm completely transformed 🏮⛩🏮
the last sentence :D a man of pure focus and sheer freaking will!
old video, but I've been watching all your stuff recently. I'm a thread crochet artist (so normally sitting at my home desk) so I very much appreciate your video adventures so much! I love seeing hidden gems, bright/happy people, the willingness to share from strangers, all of the adventures! Such a gentle channel
Thanks so much 😃
Man, I wish my culture was this artistic ❤️
Why wait for someone else to do it? It's your culture, get to work!
@@MiaogisTeas yup, and that's why the temple in our village was built different, bcoz the people in our village are a bit non conventional.
curious.. what's your culture?
Ur videos are making me fall in love with Japan.... Its just yesterday noon I came across ur video in recommendation n i started watching....... Bro its just giving me peace watching each n every video..... beauty of Japan ✌️.... Love from India...
This is a really exciting clip. On first watch was absolutely amazed by the camera. Am a night owl and have rarely seen a night time adventure caught equally well ⛩. The music goes so well with the clip. The ending is beautiful
What an amazing place specially with the morning sunrise light 😊😊❤️❤️🙏🙏
I spent the whole video wondering if you were going to show my favorite alcove and then at the last moment you showed the pipe bucket waterfall. Thanks for letting me vicariously visit again!
Watching Adventure. These night shots are hypnotic.
Still working my way through all things on all the channels. Thank you for amazing content! It has helped me rest mentally and physically over the past few weeks.
I'm so glad you made it back :)
Also, it's so cool that you can explore places like that at night. Everything around here gates up and closes down at sunset.
So calm and peaceful. This week has been stressful. This helped. Thank you!
this has quickly become one of my favorite videos you have ever done , thank you
Absolutely beautiful choice in music! Really gave a mysterious, beautiful, and slight creepy vibe.
A beautiful video for a beautiful place. And so funny seeing difference between the old camera footage and the new one. Technology has really grown in its quality and power.
Thank you for returning at night. This was such a beautiful video! I feel like I would break down in tears at the top.
Oh man, I did this exact same thing a couple years ago and I think it’s still my favourite memory from Japan. Completely magical! Thanks for letting me reminisce, can’t wait for part 2!
In February I'm going to Japan and thanks to this video, I put in my itinerary to visit the fushimi inari at night. It's my third visit to Japan and doing this makes me very excited. Thank you so much for the videos.
My absolute favorite thing from my trip last year was this shrine!! With my wheelchair it was a little difficult but absolutely loved it!!!
Thank you so much for making these great videos, showing the beatuy of Japan to people (like myself) who can't go there (yet, one day i hope).
It is just Spectacular.
Thank you one more time.
That was beautiful yet haunting. With the lack of people, it felt like you're straight up transported back in time and it had a mystical feel.
When the light started to come about, it looked like the period of time when you could encounter a Kitsune Woman of folklore!
Thank you for sharing this. It reminds me so much when I conquered☺️ the Fushimi Inari after failing the year before. It’s truly one of the most beautiful things I have ever acomplished in my life. Climbed just before sunset so I can relate to the night time shots. Keep up your great work Norm, Japan should be very proud of how you represent them. I’m a small but growing fellow youtuber from the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba. Love your videos bro!
goosebumps when u showed 2005 video!! its SO cool seeing u come back and film this again! Love these kinda throwback glowups XD
honestly one of my favorite scenes in any video that I've made
Thank you so much!
Omg absolutely love this video! I tried going through Fushimi Inari at night in October but I'm a girl and I was alone, so I chickened out on the third "level".
I walked up Fushimi Inari during the day and up at night on the same day back in 2018. Was a beautiful experience. Seeing Kyoto from the neat viewpoints was breathtaking.
That music tugs my heartstrings 💛
Best notification I could get on my birthday! 😊😊
Happy birthday!!
That's so exciting!!
Hope its a great day~
@@TokyoLens Thank you Norm! 😘😘
Yess been looking forward to another one of your videos!!!!!
Visiting Fushimi Inari at night is definitely on my bucket list. Awesome!
And incredible how bright your camera can make those scenes.
Wow, now I really want to go there both at night and day! What a gorgeous hike.
Probably one of my favorite attractions in Japan. I've been twice, but never made it up more than half way. If I ever get back again I really have to give it a whole day.
I love seeing popular places when their normally aren't shown, I can add so much depth and personality
I can get nervous in big crowds, so going there at night seems wonderful!
Thats the coolest little spot with an awesome waterfall! 😂
I think this might be my favourite video of yours. The old footage at the end just tops it off.
Oh I can't wait to watch this! My husband and I did the same thing in October last year (visiting Fushimi Inari at night) and it was thrilling. We saw a wild boar - beautiful, but definitely too interested in us, so we swiftly walked away!
