Lets be fair, live music is real analogue. But digital is better in thousands of ways, there are so many issues with vinyl, and vinyl in stereo, it is just that people got used to hearing flawed audio. Everything from vinyl, dust, speed, calibration, downward force, dynamics - many issues with Vinyl. Digital is much easier to get correct. If you love 2nd harmonics, add a tube preamp. And remember music since the mid 80s was processed digital anyway.

My rule of thumb is that if it was recorded in analog it will sound better in analog. If it was recorded digitally, it will sound better in digital everything else being equal.

I own no digital recording ; I got rid of them a long time ago with no regrets. I have yet to hear any digital source as good as analogue R2R

Yes old analog recordings is superior in R2R. No LP can come come even close. ❤
But if you take a new produced digital recording and make a copy to a R2R..
That R2R should sound worse than the digital recording that it is a copy from.
On the most that R2R could subjective sound somewhat "better" when the sound signature is preferred and imprinted on that as a preference.
In short the R2R is not doing anything magical. 😅
It just showcases how bad and how much a LP loses in sound quality in all of its production steps, there no one of them that can add sound quality and at best just preserve and it more likely to degrade it..❤

there is not one mastertape, for vinyl records is another than for digital reproduction. Therefore, comparing a vinyl record to a cd does not make much sense. And I think we should get over this discussion and think of two different systems to enjoy music

What about RIAA correction? not exactly the original analogue sound !!!

For me, my vintage Revox B225 CD player, even without all the upgrades that I've done so far (NOS mode, caps, resistences, RCA inputs, IEC socket, internal wiring...), with the old double ceramic TDA1540 14bit DAC, is still the best digital source that I've heard, regarding any price point. Multibit DACs still are the best way to approach music reproduction.

What impact does the domain of the original recording was made play in this conversation. is there an assumption that the recording of the original source was analog? hope that makes sense.

    • @sw1xaudiodesign

That is indeed the assumption for this conversation. For most cases analogue always is. Everything happens (this also applies to all digital processes) is in the Analogue domain. Unless somebody lives completely in the Matrix, most of the digital samples orgininated from the analogue. :)

@@sw1xaudiodesign So when you speak of the analoge domain you are talking about the event pre recording. I support this completely. I do think that many, when they hear the term analog, reference vinyl, and are not going back to the origin. Thank for the clarification.

I think you understand and relate at a very Hi-fi level. I'm putting you right there with Mikey and Jub, (iiwi). I purchased two digital components, Tradutto dac and CEC TL5, both with "mature" as a sound signature like analog to my ear. My listening room is also very analog feeling. Wood and fabric abound. Looking forward to your next vid.
