On Dec 31'24, an acquaintance I hadn't met in person, born 1978, Benjamin Shelton, raised in Mercer Island, Wash., near Seattle, and post - high school educated at the (now gone) Art Institute of Seattle, visited. I took video footage of him giving his thoughts about 3 artworks, including this human rights art series drawing of late 2023, of two children who died in the conflict begun by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023 and which led to intensive Israeli bombardment of Gaza and the deaths of thousands of children, adolescents and teenage Palestinians.

Back in the 1980's, I was an acquaintance of Ben's uncle and the uncle's spouse. Both are gone now. Ben inherited an etching I had given the couple as a wedding gift; the etching, titled "Mexico," of 1980. ~

About the drawing (SWD is the catalog initials of the Sight-seeing with Dignity tolerance and human rights education art series, begun 2003).
SWD 57: The Allegorical Sea-War Monsters and 2 child victims of the 2023 - 2024 Hamas and Israeli war and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict-without-end.

Media: Ink, pencil, crayon, watercolor and pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, which were scattered on pavement in a park I walk in. The upper part of the artwork is a framed photo I took on a drive to the Dead Sea, from near Tel Aviv, in 1999.

In late March 2024 I added a plastic toy, found on a sidewalk, on the bottom frame; a piece of a broken wood paint brush, added to the small upper right frame, and 4 pieces of a child's game, each with an animal depiction, on the frame at top.

    Art: 2023, with 2 found objects, and 4 pieces of a toy game added March 18, 2024. Art size: 34 inches H x 20 W. [ 86.36 cm. H x 50.8 cm. W]

The upper part of the artwork is a framed photo, mounted on a piece of found wood. I took the photo, of a grassy landscape and tree, on a road trip to the Dead Sea, in Israel, in 1999 or 2002. On the left and right sides of that frame I attached pieces of broken pavement markers which I find broken on the pavement. In my art they are meant to evoke the claws of a monstrous, voracious lobster. At upper right, in a small wood frame, I inserted dried seaweed I had brought back from the Mediterranean, which I had picked up when I'd gone swimming near Tel Aviv, 2005.
