    The patchly continuation of the Narssizenkruez quests were most often the highlight of a patch for me. After the snooze fest Meropide arc, I wanted to put that arc down a grinder. But the subsequent Meropide and Narssizenkruez quests made up for the Archon quest.
    From helping out three seperate quests we end up unlocking Fontaine's biggest Cult. A grand daughter in a prison with a hilichurl grandfather, a blood painting melusine and her dog and the history of an orphanage of a group of kids and their future was AMAZING to watch.
    It ends in the most anime moments of all time : we defeat the failed genius cult leader trying to defy fate by dissolving all the people and merge into him with our own perfected blade that he tried so hard to do himself. With the "will" that rivaled the world and a golden haired traveler.

    Narzissenkreuz world quest series is probably the closest we have to Non-Archon Archon Quests. It's one of the few quests that's actually almost directly related to the Archon Quest but also connects past and current names and events in such a cool manner. You get most of important info from the quests instead of usual descriptions of artifacts or weapons, but those were delegated to add additional, less important to the story, info like Fleuve Cendre gang, Siege of Poission, Parcifal the magicial, Marfisa (Her story was actually almost fully explained in the newest Emilie signature) that enhances the story. And a lot of other World quests help this build up too, even if they're not directly (or at all) connected.
    It also really helped to make different parts of Fontaine feel more relevant or important to the story. While Inazuma had cool quests, both Tsurumi and Seirai felt disconnected and self-contained. Even my favorite, Girdle of the Sands, felt like an addition to Sumeru than part of it. But in Fontaine, i genuinely felt like all of it's parts were connected. Even Remuria, which is literally disconnected from Fontaine, felt super connected thanks to it being foreshadowed since 4.0 and being quite important part of Rene plan
    I hope Natlan will deliver on the same level, what with more Episodic world quests that they mentioned (which i assume will also be connected)
    Kinda cool that you could know the info About Melusines being Elynas children if you looked up "Melusine" before Fontaine even came out too
    Also, For Chenyu Vale, one potential story point it suggested is that the God that ruled there might have been Guizhong, which can have quite a bit of implications; Iirc, original people of Chenyu came from Chasm and also had contact with Celestia, seemingly, which stopped at some point (don't remember why), which adds other questions i guess

      Natlan does have the potential to do some really cool lore-rich WQs, esp if they go into the backstories of each of the tribes and their patron heroes.
      I hadn’t heard about the Guizhong thing, do you have anymore info on that?

    People don't like Sumeru WQ cause it locks some of the areas but those quests are my favorites in the game. Especially the Aranara. It too ties with the Archon Quest a bit. Its also the quest where we learn that the Goddess of Flowers is a Seelie. And Marana's Avatar is a cool boss as well, with its own boss theme.

  • @kanrakiddler

    AQ's are fun adventures but it's really the WQ's that leave me with that hollow feeling at the end that good stories do.
    I shall now shout out some of the smaller quests that weren't mentioned.
    -The FRIKEE quest and it's sequel had some cool moments, specifically two, the "group photo" moment, and the quite chilling moment in the sequel quest when your group spends the night on the pirate's boat, iykyk.
    -the quest with a fruit gang people and a treasure hoarder trying to sent his sister into school involving concocting the greatest elixir: traveler's bath water.
    -The Leroy quest where you can just let a woman enact her revenge on her shitty adoptive father figure for ruining her life
    -Also the quest with Curve, the lie detecting robot, and how it ends with some light Sandrone implications.
    Honestly it's a continuous shame that even though their production value and quality keeps increasing, they still remain "secondary" to many players, due to the lack of Voice Acting and not focusing on the playables, which for many is the only thing they give shit about. And like, that's valid! Just a shame that some of genshin's more intriguing writing gets buried like that. (and at the same time, not focusing on the playables is what gives WQ's their flexibility in writing flawed and not-human characters)

    • @TheShadeChamber
      @TheShadeChamber  2 месяца назад +3

      Oh, we'll have to check out the Curve quest before Sandrone become relevant.
      World quests are a blessing and a curse. Not having them voiced probably gives them more flexibility in how they're distributed. Text is (relatively) cheap both at an implementation and at a space level, but voice acting is ... expensive in a lot of different areas. I hate when quests aren't voiced, but at the same time, it is also much easier to make and keep in the game. I loved the Sumeru coda that took place with the mystery novel in the recent summer event, and the fact that it wasn't fully voiced was probably the only reason we got it in the first place.
      But yeah! We'll keep an eye out for the quests you mentioned.

    I LOVE the structure of these quests so much. I really wish the archon quests took on this same structure. Less talking, more exploring. It feels like a true adventure rather than just talking in a city.
    Narzissenkreuz is the best playable story in the game hands down!

  • @alexanderericson8628

    Honestly this quest was so good that they should have intertwined it into the archon quest. It would have made the archon quest longer but it would have given so much context to the history of Fontaine. How many know that Khaenri'ah had an orphanage for Descenders, not many at all, how many know that Rene tried to become a Descender himself, not many at all. I suspect they can fi this in the future, Arlecchino could mention it to the traveller in a "main" quest, as it is the biggest lead to were we originate from since basically the beginning of the game. Orphanage is usually a natural consequence of being the winner in a war children with parents that are executed in the aftermath.
    The issue is that these stories complement the archon quest, and in my opinion aren't really "optional" at all. They explain what Oceanids has gone through in a way that the Archon quest doesn't. It explains why Neuvilette have a hard time finding his own emotions there are just so many things that is master craft storytelling tier. I want a trailer of the Ordo and I suspect a lot of fans want that. Some Npcs are in my opinion more interesting than characters inside the game itself. Rene, Caterpillar Enjou, Deshret. These characters are not just fillers they have a rich story in Genshin and as I said should at some point enter the Archon plotline. it's a shame because I know a lot of people are just going to miss all of it or not be able to put into context of the rest of the game. From what I gather Genshin treats the story of the game as a reward for being active rather than a guarantee that you will experience. They also go hard on the idea of you being a traveller that explores and finds out the truth by your own with very little handholding. This is very unique in it's structure some games do this but it's fairly rare From software Elden Ring, Dark Souls series. They basically make the story FOMO, I am not sure I am super happy about by removing events that again aren't "optional"
    The way I view that t's optional to fast forward a movie to the action scenes, will you understand some parts of the movie sure you will, will you have a full experience of what the movie was about? - Not even close.

    • @TheShadeChamber
      @TheShadeChamber  2 месяца назад +7

      Yeah, the story and lore are really tightly packed, but the AQs are content just skimming the surface of how deep everything can go. The "lore as reward" aspect rings really true, but my biggest annoyance is avoiding answering questions when they haven't written the answers and are really visibly leaving themselves wiggle room. Some more integration between the AQs and the WQs would be good. With Natlan's new progression system, maybe we'll see something closer to that. Here's hoping!

      @@TheShadeChamber I did suggest that in my Survey funny you mention that. I think some npc's should leave clues to the story so in Inazuma it should be Yae Miko and in Sumeru probably Nahida, even thou she is probably the archon that has the least clue about what is happening as demonstrated with Apeps clear frustration with her. I am hoping I think they might had a plan to ramp up the game after 5.0 if the game was still going well, some Gacha games do this, to not invest to much to early, but they should have changed those plans...a while ago.

      We compared genshin storytelling to souls games back around ep 3….come to think of it that was one of the better examples of background lore integrating into the main story. That was in Inazuma, where the background lore sheds some light on the many comrades Ei had and lost over the years, so by the second half of the AQ, even before we find out she had a sister, we know what set her down the path that would lead to her decision to banish herself. Plus they all got cool character designs, which helps them feel more relevant.
      The difference ofc is Genshin is a full on JRPG style story with loads of dialogue and explicit storytelling, where souls games are 90% action and the story is vague and tantalizing, which means picking up nuggets of lore and theorizing about the story is part of the fun. Genshin tries to have it both ways and is not entirely successful at it. But as Break said, maybe Natlan, with its decentralized reputation system and tribal lore, might do it better.

    Ashikai had some interesting thoughts regarding the concepts of Spirit Veins that were introduced in Chenyu Vale. If she's right that they are different from Ley Lines, that questline could, at the very least be said to be adding more important world building/foreshadowing for the future.

    The Caterpillar story is honestly still a fumble to me in one regard, Were was Wriothesley?
    I get it that GI has that rule of excluding playable characters from world quests, but this particular one suffered way more from it, than others.
    One of his subordinates was abusing his power and basically overtook the fortress at one point and what do we hear from the fortresse' admisnitrator? NOTHING!
    Do this quest after finishing Wriothesley's story quest and it's even worse 💀. Because at the end of his story, Wriothesley was blaming himself for not noticing the problems that were appearing within the fortress right below his nose, and promised that such oversight will never happen again..... WELL IT FUCKIN DID HAPPEN AGAIN!!!
    The word "fumble" doesn't begin to describe it.

    It was simply far too long with too little payoff for my liking. I don’t mean narratively, that I don’t particularly care about, but for all the hours of clicking through unvoiced dialogue, I’d have liked something for my time other than a story I don’t and can’t appreciate fully. In the same way I didn’t feel emotionally invested in the final Fontaine sq, it was even more difficult to accomplish on my part because of all the lacking elements of hoyoverse’s storytelling. I understand the limitations that hoyo have made for themselves, but recycled animations and retextured npc models take me out of it. I’m autistic, and the rigid, emotionless delivery of what might otherwise be tragic tends to fall flat on its face. Compounding that, I find most of the voice work grating enough that I turn off voice-lines all-together (so on second thought, voiced dialogue probably wouldn’t make sq’s any more enjoyable, especially with how much Paimon fucking talks)

    • @TheShadeChamber
      @TheShadeChamber  Месяц назад

      Oof, sorry to hear that. That’s definitely a valid take, and it’s telling that when hoyo wants to do a more impactful story beat, they cut away from the on-screen models. Genshin is definitely the most raggedy looking of their big 3, especially these days.
