This is the stuff, I once drove from Chicago to Atlanta, stayed there, drove around 4 days, then on my way back up, playing the same Fela cd, didn't change to another Fela until I had passed Kentucky. It soul shaking and mesmerizing.
this guy right here, fela kuti, was (is) something else. I must have about 2/3 of his catalogue and every time I come across one I had never heard before, such as this one, it feels as if I've rediscovered a superstar. I only wish I had known of him sooner...so influential.
Fela will live forever why because The man speaks the truth, writes about our world as he see it and die for it. He was beaten in the street, his home, at the Airport and until noting in his body to beat any more.
Baba shouted the loudest for so long, but they let him rest in PEACE and still they NO HEAR. Baba i hear you and salute you - same goes out to all who HEAR. Please take time to hear, enjoy and assimilate
fela live forever in me and in the world..i realise many thing from the bad government till date now......how i wish he was allow to rule nigeria..bcos baba 70 got discipline , he dont like steel arm robbery ..i know that for sure.....and same as shoki his son femi greatest legend in Nigeria you bless...i cant wait for felaboration this year coming back home from southafrica with my wife....
You Nigerians, you must know be you die, who don't know must know. Very powerful word, it's happening already, I think Nigerians are learning their lesson now, Buahri is the headmaster take your complain to him.
@dallascomegys I'm so glad you said that, I have almost 95% of his songs ,but the best thing that ever happened to me was to witness this man's performances at the Shrine. you have no idea.
Fela praised Idi Amin because he was a Pan-Africanist. Idi Amin fought for African emancipation but later went out of line. When this song was released, Idi Amin was all about African unity.
@chic chi Lol, yeah, the whole Entebbe hostage crisis that Idi Amin played a direct role in was pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things i guess.... and fuck those 100,000+ people he killed for disagreeing with his politics, right? lmao his regime was literally marred by rampant human rights abuses, political repression, ethnic persecution, extrajudicial killings, nepotism, corruption, and gross economic mismanagement. Go dig up a mass grave somewhere in Uganda from the Amin regime and tell me " *whose* media and propaganda" that is. Idi Amin was pretty out of line, I know it's cool and edgy to say online that all these African dictators were really onto something, but, no, they're sellouts. Mugabe, Mobutu, etc. They did what they did (sticking it to the west) out of selfishness and greed, not for the justice of the people they represent. Don't get it twisted. Real leaders like Mandela or Lumumba or Kenyatta are much more praise worthy.
Nkrumah shout teeeeee we not hear That man shout for Africa we not hear Idi Amin shout terrestrial we never hear as well Baba Fela shout for Africa we not hear Our leaders still de mess, poor man de cry Our women still de catch yellow fever Some men also de follow catch the yellow fever
The western world brainwash people to think and see Idi Amin in bad light. Same brainwashing continues to date in more sophisticated forms. Many people having negative opinion of Idi Amin never know or knew him for who he really was. Fela and some others knew who he really was and what he meant for a greater Africa.
I find Fela's praise for Idi Amin in this song and Underground System contradictory. Idi Amin killed a lot of Acholi and Lango people. People of different tribes to his. Now how can any one listen to a person like that for African unity? I won't. Seriously, tribalism is the virus Africans have to cure. Before ever African unity is championed. Otherwise it would be pointless, just as the idea has never amounted to anything but talk, talk, talk and a lot of songs. Most of those who normally preach it are tribalistic. Their loyaty is to their tribes first.
+Romeo Romero ..i thought idi amin was a monster until i do a little bit of research about him, unless you do a little bit research about him..." you no go know"
+Kaz Man A man who killed his people because they are of a different tribe can never be great in my eyes. May his soul rest in absolute anarchy! He would always be a great man to the Kakwas which you are possibly one of. However, for Acholis, Langos and myself he would always be the monster the world knows.
+Romeo Romero no man is without flaws..I love flea and his music, but dude also was a bit of a misogynist..He also said Africans never sold slaves, another untruth..
Africans sold slaves but that wasn't the major source of slaves...only a fraction of slaves were sold (mainly captives and prisoners of tribal wars) instead of being killed for European materials and money. Each tribe and kingdom saw itself as a sovereign nation that would go to war with other tribes to conquer and subdue lands just like every other human society in the old days to expand kingdoms. Majority of slaves were captured by European and Arabians slave traders. They had sophisticated weapons. Sometimes they would conquer a whole village and sell everyone into slavery including Kings, princesses, princes, women and sometimes children. It's a horrible history!
I was raised off of this!! True music resonates globally. As an aspiring artist I always felt the need contribute to music in a way I saw fit. So I moved to Panama formed a group called Negros Americanos. Click my page to listen to our new joint On and On filmed entirely in PANAMA!

I don't reply to a lot of these comments but LOL.

cré Fela...... le «tuning» de la basse n'est pas tout-à-fait juste... mais, bien-sûr l'esprit de SA musique est bien là.
moar sax please
