Great video- and something to add to hopefully help someone else. My tractor had quite a few metal filings on the hydraulic oil drain plug. I decided to pull out the other hydraulic filter/ suction line strainer. I had to loosen all the bolts on the subframe member on that side of the tractor to get the clearance to get the suction line strainer/ filter fully out. This was a pain but worthwhile for me as there were a lot of filings and chips held up on this filter as well. I am not sure if all these metal filings are a sign of a larger problem or not- I suppose time will tell (and I will probably change my hydraulic oil again earlier than needed).
Excellent video which helped me decide to have the dealer do it for $386.41. My health prevented me from doing it myself. Your video helped to see what was done. Info: 6.5 gallons Hydraulic fluid 2.0 gallons of 15w/40 motor oil 1.75 gallon 80/90 gear oil
If you have a Mahindra 2538 tractor I hope the dealer you went to didnt put 15w40 in it. It takes ONLY SAE 30 motor oil, anything else will void your warranties and ruin your motor over time.
@@herewegotoday That is the exact model I purchased 7 years ago with all the bells and whistles. The manual with mine said use the SAE style. It probably depends on where you live in the US or Canada, and the elevation as well. The dealer that sold it, put SAE in it before I picked it up, but I'm sure that's going to be different by location.
watching that fuel pour out made me cringe... Also curious why your primary fuel filter wasn't painted black on a 50 hour? Anyway, thanks to your video I put a ball valve in the fuel line just below the fuel tank.
You just absolutely made my day we recently bought the same tractor and we’re changing the oil with the same oil pan and soaked the whole wood deck of the trailer wish I would have watched this video before LOL
Well done sir, rooky or not you did well. I like that you showed us what not to do when it comes to the pan size, I think I'd have over filled the drain pan as well. Thanks again sir 👌
I didn’t see any comment on this. On the front axle both wheel hubs have drain plugs and air vents which need to be removed when draining axle. During refill put the air vents back in after fluid is refilled. Were did you buy the pump for the five gal bucket. Also check and re-toque engine mounts on your next service.
Thanks for the tips, Dennis. I'm not familiar with the plugs and vents you mention. I will take a look next time I'm using the tractor. The pump I bought was this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EVPLY32/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
I'd love to offer some helpful info. I will stop back and add more but one of the most helpful things I can tell u is to clamp your diesel fuel line when changing the fuel filters. Personally I cut the line after my clamp then installed a simple 3/8 ribbed ball valve style shut off valve so that every time I service it I can just turn the handle and drain the little fuel in the canister. Fast clean and simple! Why the dealer doesn't install a shut of to begin with is just crazy!
Yes I didn't know about clamping the line when I did this. I would like to put in a valve also. You say it's a 3/8 inch ball valve? Where exactly did you put it? Is there any place I could see a picture of yours? I'm getting ready to do this service again and I'd like to add the valve.
TechButterflyMaps someone else had asked me as well so I posted a short video on youtube that just shows the valve with a quick explanation. Hope that answers your question. Good luck! ruclips.net/video/pmds6BLULo0/видео.html
The rest isn’t hard. You just need a clamping tool to clamp the fuel line so it doesn’t leak all over like mine did. You can get that tool anywhere, I just didn’t know about it. In addition, you need a container or two big enough to hold the 7 gallons or so of hydraulic fluid. You can find kits with all the filters you’ll need. I also found it helpful to have a hand pump to put the new hydraulic fluid in. Good luck whatever you decide to do!
This was a very informative video thanks for your efforts in the making of it! I am about to do the same service on my Mahindra 2538 HST (wish me Luck).
Interesting, my dealer told me all I needed to do for the 50 hour was change the oil. He told me to wait for the 100 hour to change the hydraulic fluid.
Chance1957 mine said no fluids changed until 250 hours. They had a $99 special for the 50 hour. WHAT A WASTE OF MONRY. All they did was look at the fluid levels and grease the zerk fittings, they even broke 3 of them and tried to charge me when they broke them.
The simplest way is to buy a tool made for the purpose. It looks like a vise grip, but has broad flat surfaces, meant to pinch the hose and prevent leaking. Can be gotten cheap at harbor freight or probably any auto parts store.
I put in a little over a gallon. As I mentioned, it was a little over full. One gallon would probably be fine. I don't know what the "final drive" is supposed to be, but there are plenty of errors in the manual - maybe the standard tranny or shuttle have a final drive that needs to be serviced.
Thanks for the info and the great video . One more question, someone mentioned there may be a seal on the bottom of the fuel filter sensor that you have to reuse, did you happen to notice that? I am doing all my filters this weekend and wanted to be prepared. Thanks
I don't remember that seal - maybe it just stayed on the sensor when I transferred it. Next time I change that filter, I'll keep an eye out for it. Good luck with doing your service!
The final drive is the last gear set next to the front tire. There is a drain plug near the bottom of the axle near each tire, if you didn't drain those that probably explains why it only took one gallon instead of two.
I did my service today and this video was very very helpful. I wanted to add the picture of and info for the hydro screen. Thanks again for the video, it helped alot. Any idea how to add pictures on here?
Thanks very helpful.

very helpful, thank you for doing this
Isn’t there another hydraulic filter ?
Hello did you ever figure out how to shut off the fuel when changing the secondary fuel filter? thanks
You can buy a clamp that pinches off the fuel line - the ones I've seen look sort of like vice grips with flat, rounded jaws.
@@techbutterflymaps9873 thank you.

@@brenmfffusmc7803 not true -- per the manual it ships with 15w40 and which oil to use afterwards depends on the average temperature in that climate

Too funny! Like me, I know you won't be making that mistake again!
Great video. Love the ammo box. Doing that this weekend. Thanks!!
Im under my 2538 right now looking at this video lol. Thanks!+

Thanks for the video Karl
Thank you for doing this video. Now I know what to expect.
A trick : you can watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Eden Ty Yea, I have been watching on flixzone for since december myself :D

Thats what mine told me to do too. Just the oil
Any new info on how to shut the fuel off? I have a 2638

OTC 4506 Fuel Line Clamp Set - 2 Piece (About $5.00 each) Google amazon for current price.
Nice video can you tell me part number that you need for the tractor 2538 to make the tuneup
When you said transmission fluid that also means hydraulic fluid right
I just want to make sure transmission filter and hydraulic filter the same
How much 80w90 did you end up putting in the front axle? Also, You mentioned at the end about the "Final Drive", where is that located?
I put in a little over a gallon. As I mentioned, it was a little over full. One gallon would probably be fine. I don't know what the "final drive" is supposed to be, but there are plenty of errors in the manual - maybe the standard tranny or shuttle have a final drive that needs to be serviced.

Assembly lube , no metal shavings that's good

Great video man I definitely learned alot and it looks like something I'll just spend the extra money and have someone else do it....thank you
I would panic with all that diesel fuel pouring on the ground, ahha.
I got PTSD watching that part too,,, haha
