RWBY has a ton of different semblances, but lets be honest. Some of them are amazing! But some of them are trash! Here's my top 10 lists for the best and the worst semblances!
Cinder's Semblance: Fire
Her Maiden powers: Fire
Yup yup, you can totally tell when she's using one or the other
But the thing is that the power of the fall maiden is actually wind.....
The fire element is supposed to be for the summer maiden
@@minshookie427 really? That makes more sense actually but.... what?how?why?
@@aimeea.3775 Cinder combined both her semblance and her maiden powers as for combination of wind and fire that made her semblance feels evolved and made her fly
She can also summon weapons now without using dust
@beehives maiden Powers can use all elements not just one
@@minshookie427 what about spring
Oh wait, the speed is Oobleck's Semblance? I thought it was just because he drinks way too much coffee...
I personally believe his semblance is almost powered by the coffee and the caffeine is what triggers the speed
I'm 90% sure him rushing about everywhere is just comedy-speed, not a Semblance.
But hey, could be both.
I wondered if he added dust to his coffee or something kinda like how hazel stabs himself to power up
I don’t think his semblance was stated anywhere actually
So. If ooblecks is speed.. Whats ruby?
I genuinely didn't know that Ironwood actually HAD a semblance until this video.
I think it was said either in the directors commentary for v7 or on Twitter somewhere, but it kinda sucks and I've never understood it imo ._.
I was literally just about to comment this😂
Legit same, thought he didn't have a semblance until now, I figured he had a semblance but the writers didn't show case it yet, like with jaune how he unlocked his semblance in volume 5(I think?) Thought the same went for ironwood but he didn't have a need to show his semblance off in the show yet.
@@King_Of_Gay Ironwood’s semblance has actually appeared in the show. Just look closely at certain points in volume 7 and probably volume 8.
It was mentioned during RTX 2020.
Basically Everyone's Reaction to this video:
- We knew that Neo was going to be No. 1
- We didn't know Ironwood had a semblance.
- "Glowy Hands Syndrome"
Mercury’s dad’s semblance should have been on the list
For me it was those three but with the added one being: "Wait, Oobleck's speed was because of his semblance and not him drinking coffee like 50+ times a day?"
@@Missing-Ace I'm going to assume as one of the worst? Honestly, as a concept in of itself, I kinda like it. You can glean what kind of person Mercury's father was just from hearing about his semblance, and it explains how he was able to become an assassin in a world where most fighters have their own personal forcefields and can deflect bullets with ease.
What I don't like is it being lazily used to explain why Mercury doesn't have a semblance. If you're going to give him that complex of an explanation, then actually use the dad as a character, not as a plot device. Or just make Mercury someone who never discovered his semblance, like Ironwood should've.
Lmao, so true! Are you a psychic
Agreed
Klein has a semblance? I thought he just had fantasy DID
"Mr. Sieben, you are suffering from Split Personality."
"Good Sir, that's just my Semblance."
"No, we tend to call that a Mental Illness."
After seeing Neo's (where she used to change her eye color based on whether she's on the defensive or offensive), I figured it was the case
@@johannesseyfried7933 ... is that an actual line?? Idk why, but it seems kinda insensetive, but what do i know?
@@sunnydeee_ No, it isn't. Don't worry.
As someone with DID, yeah Klein just has fantasy DID that’s poorly disguised as a semblance. Also changing-eye-color-alter trope is so overdone that I just can’t like it
Neo is the definition of “actions speak louder than words.”
And that’s why I love her. She’s also cute
You gotta love Neo
She isn’t best girl for nothing
That would be another interesting name for her semblance, "Actions Speak Louder"... I don't know that it would be a *good* name, but there it is.
WHY DIDN'T IRONWOOD GET RHODES' SEMBLANCE?!
rhodes could turn parts of his body into metal. That's work for Ironwood's fairytale and his whole thing of losing humanity.
Because more than half his body is already metal anyway. >_>
@@lightdragoon88 that would kinda make sense though; that's how they could so easily give him cybernetics
@@kerricaine so you need that to have cybernetics? No one tell Yang then otherwise her arm would stop working.
@@lightdragoon88 i was thinking they could make it like, prostetics like yangs need custom fitted, training to use, etc. But ironwood could just plug any old robot part onto a lost limb, or any machine would be compatible with his metal body
@@kerricaine I understand what you are saying but that sounds like an absorption power as just turning your body medal wouldn't allow you to just 'plug in' parts due to wires and stuff
Heck imagine if Ironwood's semblance actually made his skin become almost as hard as metal that would have been awesome.
That would've been great.
They gave that to Rhodes, the huntsman that was training that she eventually killed. Also part of ironwoods body is already metal and robotic. I’d have to agree with you but it wouldn’t fit the tin man theme if he wasn’t part robot anyway
Ironwood looks like wallethead from
Tales from the Borderlands
That would be epic!!!!
Oh but wait, they decided to spite the people who called them out on that by giving it to a new character that's already dead because villain backstory happened and totally didn't need that.
Robyn's semblance, unchanged, could have been used to characterise her as a distrusting person who never believes others without her own, semblance driven, proof. Why believe what someone says on faith or trust when you can prove definitively that they are being honest. Her having no faith in people who don't conform to her standards of proving themselves could have led to some really interesting scenarios.
This. I wonder if robins stupid speech about “others being afraid she’d sniff out their secrets” was just her own insistence on getting semblance confirmation on anything and everything and people being mistrusting of her own apparent lack of faith.
@@EVCypher That could be interesting, especially since she requires other people to take her on faith since they can't confirm that she is being truthful. A little bit of hypocrisy shrouded by her own distrust of others.
Wait what if she asked someone if God existed. Would it change depending on the person, or just a straight normal answer?
@@AnakinFury would depend upon how the semblance worked in nuance; does it read off as truth as the person believes it or as some font of Cosmic Truth? A Colour blind person could tell her the sky was green and come off as true in the former and false the latter.
A personal perceived truth is less out and out broken than tapping into the universes history to make a float hand. Makes for a more interesting slew of possibilities by using a fooled proxy to interact with her and pull the wool over her eyes.
Ngl sounds like joe biden
The thing about Blake's semblence is that she rarely uses it at it's full potential. Remember when she was fighting Roman on that train and she wiped the floor with him? That's because she used dust to enchant her clones which I think is a trait that has a lot potential.
Too bad she doesn't use it when she should...
shadow clone is the tricky one. Ice clone, fire clone, even stone clone (in chibi), you name it. My favorite semblance for fighting, shame the show not showing much in combat
It might be that the dust is just way too expensive for her to normally use, considering that Weiss handed her one mag of them and she is rich asf while Blake has regular person funds
it could also lead to some brain fuckery
We see blake can make almost exact copies of herself
Imagine a neo and blake fight where blake goes all out
Neither of them would know where the other truly is
@@anusaukko6792 That would make sense considering a whole crap ton of it was stolen and used to blow up Beacon, and that time when Weiss dropped the freight on the wasp queen, also Ironwood enacted an embargo on it, then an entire mine was destroyed, and of course Atlas fell, taking SDC with it. The inflation on dust must be going through the moon.
Honestly I really love Blake's semblance and maybe I just love her unrealistic ribbon guns but I feel like it's stylistically quite pretty and an extension of her runaway personality.
Emerald semblance can be used to mind break anyone.
Imagine if she was showing Jaune hallucinations of Pyrrha since volume 4! Like just her standing on the horizon and smiling at him or haunting him. Emerald can drive characters insane with this.
I have been asking for this for YEARS!!!
That’s some terrifying shit.
I doubt they will RT lacks the balls or backbone to make the show sadder or add a bit more maturness they can't keep the show family friendly forever.
@@hyacinthnightshade6348 nothing says family frendly like abusive boyfrend cutting your frend's arm off

I see that someone have references.
but who left the swiss cheese slice on the asphalt?
...It was Cinder, wasn't it...
@@catalinaargyriou8603 Cinder is even making the lives of Greg and Rowley miserable!!! She’s like Agatha… it’s been Cinder all along!
I personally don't believe Ironwood's semblance is cannon. If you don't add it into the show, then it's just the writers headcannon.
Yeah, you can easily ignore the semblance and it changes nothing. Ironwood making his own choices due to a mix of his attitude, circumstances and mental condition make him way more interesting than “uh, his semblance is making him do it.”
Turns out his Semblance also has "glowy hands"/s
But yeah, it's pretty weak sauce since it's apparently "passive" like Qrows.
That’s pretty much what I do when it comes to all the “questionable” (read:dumb) things RT says outside the show
I'm pretty sure RT put on a post what Ironwood's semblance was right before the release of Volume 7
Well, considering we learned his semblance through RTX panels and DVD commentary, then yeah we can call it the writer's headcanon.
how do people like ironwood, qrow, etc even discover their semblance? like if ironwood is so determined all the time wouldn’t most people just assume he’s just a guy with really strong willpower? how did they figure out it was his semblance making him do that?
When their aura breaks and their semblances deactivate and the things that their semblances cause go away
@@deathxanamon7211 Is that how it really works? Do their semblance even "uses" aura to function? If that were the case I think Qrow would be able to "turn off" his Bad Luck, cuz it wouldn't make too much sense that those characters would be constantly "spending" aura on their semblances.
@@groynin From what I've been able to gather, many semblances don't "spend" aura, so to speak, especially the passive ones. It seems more like semblances use focus and energy unless they're passive, and the passive ones just seem unreliable and unpredictable. But for some reason, semblances supposedly don't work if your aura is broken, but the show has been very unclear on how exactly that works, so I doubt passives can be "turned off" unless the show directly tells us how semblances and aura actually interact with each other.
They read it on the script
Qrow’s Semblance is cool yeah, but his bad luck is genuinely sad when you don’t expect it. I predicted that one of the ops would die in RWBY but to see Qrow in this makes Qrow too unlucky. I’m going to be honest, Qrow shouldn’t claim the people around him ‘friends’ but ‘peers’.
I think I spoke about his bad luck more than his semblance. Oh well.
Ironwoods semblance is basically a personality trait. And I also hope that if Oscar unlocks his semblance it would be worth the wait.
I don't get why Oscar needs a semblance in the first place. He already has Ozma's magic.
@@yelloturkey but he's also his own person, so he'd have his own semblance, and magic isn't a semblance. The show has hinted at Oscar unlocking his semblance since v5, and I really hope we get it this volume! I also hope we get more answers about the merge and Oscar gets onscreen depth/development but maybe I'm too hopeful lol
I vaguely remember season 7 Ozpin said Oscar unlocked it (green shield thing) but that could’ve been him inheriting control over magic from oz (it looks like the same shield that Ozpin used in s3). I forget
@@EVCypher that was magic or aura projection, crwby said it wasn't his semblance
@@EVCypher but yes it does seem to be the same thing Oz did in v3!
I once heard someone call Tock’s semblance ‘minute to win it’ and I love it
LMAO That sounds so cool!
If they really wanted to make Ironwoods semblance have to do with Decision Making it should’ve been the power to see the consequences of his actions, essentially limited future vision, it would explain some of his more questionable decisions, like working with Watts, because he knew what the result would be
That would be great.
so kinda like nighteye from hero academia, where he can see the current path of the future, or someone's immediate future actions?
That would have been great
That'd fit very well into an "ends justify the means" route for if the writers still wanted to make him morally questionable or antagonistic, where he knows what he's doing will work out and possibly is the only viable way to achieve such, but to everyone else it seems like he's choosing to do terrible things and they don't know his endgame to understand why.
It would’ve made things so much more interesting if they made him some type of clairvoyant
Oobleck has a speed semblance? Lol, am I dumb for thinking he was just overcaffeinated? Did I even use that right? So many questions.
Maybe it’s powered by caffeine
@@charlottewalnut3118 | lol maybe
Fiona's semblance was originally Torchwick's according to the volume 7 commentary and it was called Deep Pockets, the reason we never saw it was because they never had a time to show it even though he could have used it in the first episode when he was stealing dust so they decided instead of telling us to give it to the wifu bait sheep girl. The worst part is Roman had so much potential with this semblance he doesn't fight fair have him pull out a second Melodic Cudgel, oh what you only have one Cresent Rose sucks to be you, give him one that shoots ice instead of explosives, give him one that's a flamethrower, give him one that's a Tommy gun since they're connected to mobsters or just extra normal Melodic Cudgels, double his fire power by firing two at once, have him fend off some one with one and pull out a second one to grapple away with using the grapple hook, have him throw out bombs or dust crystals, I think having him steal someone else's weapon would make sense but would be pretty broken, you could even have him have a ship or bike or car stored away so when he needs to make a get away he can literally pull out his ride have him hide lock picks or something to break himself out of prison, between having Neo for getaways and Roman being able to pull out weapons and explosives to blast his way out of prison it would make sense why he was never captured.
You fucking serious?! Omg, that would have been amazing!
I think a perfect place to use it was during the dock heist. Grab a few of those containers of dust on the way out. Hell, if you had it, why even bring the airships when you can clean it out with far less attention by yourself?
@@SallinKari We don't even know the limit of how much you can store with it but he could probably have taken at least 1, I mean Fiona used it to steal a whole truck
Ok I soooo need to read a fanfic where Roman has this and uses it like a true master thief. My boi got done wrong.
In canon did he just not have one?
@@aimeea.3775 Yes, they used him as an example of people who just never unlock their semblance.
Fox's Semblance isn't what gives him the ability to see Aura, his semblance is just plain old telepathy. The ability to 'see' Aura and Grimm is something everyone has, but because Fox is blind he is more in tune with it. You could relate it to when you close your eyes for a couple of minutes, and your other senses pick up a little to compensate (sounds being clearer, more sensitive to touches, etc) for basically losing one.
Also, to signal Fox using his semblance I thought it would be cool to hear faint little sorta whispers, like some of the A.I. Fragments from the Red VS. Blue Freelancer Trilogy.
Yooo, that'd be cool!!
Ren is also shown to be able to sense aura/energy during the taijitsu fight
It was mentioned early on that you can 'see' aura, or at least things looking at you with your aura, so the implication is that he's just trained more with aura control, like Ren. That's why he is like the only other character we see doing those aura strikes that make grimm bloat and explode.
@@FlatlandsSurvivor He was also able to sense when Tyrian was heading straight for Team RNJR in Volume 4
I thought, in the books, he had that weird earpiece with the ai that helped point things out for him too, or am I misremembering that?
Kinda wish semblances had been categorized early on, could've helped them develop better version for some of the characters on the worst's list.
Like, creating clones would be a summoning semblance, bad luck and illusions would be reality manipulation, aura boost and Vine's squiggly wiggly arm thing would be aura manipulation.
Creation: Clones and Glyphs
Knowledge: Photographic memory, Kindred link (Raven needs to know the person and also ties into relic of knowledge)
Choice: Hazel (chooses to not feel pain) Speed semblances (choosing to increase your speed)
Destruction: Moon Slice, Nora's and Yang's
This is just a rough quick idea for a few of the semblances but it not only helps categorizes them but ties into the relics
It already exists, its called Nen but i think Rooster Teeth's writers wanted to "make different"
@@ramiel3759 I'd assume its more avoiding copyright lawsuits lol
@@chrisk3127 tbh i dont think that way since RWBY is a amalgam of various anime/manga concepts, and not just Nen but its a staple in battle shounens to stablish rules and categories to their magic system
@@ramiel3759 I guess I could be wrong but I've only heard of one show that uses Nen
I didn't even knew that ironwood had a semblance
no one did
Same
This is why saying something on social media is not the way to build a show.
He does it called mettle which strengthens a person resolves
Same here. It honeslty feels like headcanon on the writers part considering you could watch the show and not even know he has one
This is how I would improve each semblance you’ve listed in the worst
Elm: If she comes in contact with something she can implement her aura roots on them
Tyrian: Tyrian semblance works like poison to people’s aura and his own. When he goes to break someone’s aura he actually depleting his own. Visually his semblance coats his hands with purple claws
Raven: Instead of the portals being to people she’s has a deep connection it’s instead to place she’s already been. This can allow for it to be more useful and used more creatively
Ren: The lotus petals are the visuals constantly. Other than that it can stay the same
Qrow and Clover: For Qrow make the visuals be black feathers, and for Clover make the visuals green clovers. The visuals actually show where the misfortune/good fortune will take place
Hazel: I’m changing it. Instead of not being able to feel pain. I’m making it in which the more damage he takes the more he increase in size, and by extension granting him more strength and durability . The reason is because of his fairy tail (in which the witch’s goal was to fatten up Hansel and Gretel). It’s weakness is that it has a damage cap and he can only get so big ( I’d say at best the size of the hound)
Robyn: Instead of being a flat out lie detector who ever she touches she can make tell the truth. The victim can only stop telling the truth when Robyn snaps her hand ( A reference to hypnotist snapping someone out of a hypnosis). Visually I’d say a certain sound plays when making someone tell the truth
Maria: basically make it like the Spider Sense
Fox: Instead of it just being telepathy. I’m gonna make it in which he can detect/ hear or communicate with anything that has intelligence. (This was hard to improve or change)
Ironwood: He shouldn’t have a semblance. He’s already a badass with out one so he doesn’t need one
Great Ideas here loved every one of them. For Ironwood I would either give him turn different parts of his body to metal. Or his semblance is hyperkinetic. Where he has complete instant control over his senses and reactions but more than Maria's preflexes. Like he can predict how people will act in a given situation using probability. For instance if he shoots his gun at someone he could tell how they would dodge or block and how many shots it would take to break their aura etc. This could better lead to his crazy and one track thinking because of that semblance.
I'd make Qrow and Clover's semblances predictive. Bad and good things don't just... happen around them. Instead, they can see brief glimpses into the near-future, with Qrow seeing only negative possibilities (like a fire breaking out) and Clover seeing only positive possibilities (like a crucial opening against an opponent). I don't know how they'd visually manifest (aside from glowy body part syndrome...), but I think it would make them more interesting and tie better into their personalities
@@somedragonbastard that’s such a awesome idea, you creative Genius
What if for Tranquility, make it an area of effect aura so that he can choose for a bunch of people around him to be tranquil. And if he decides to focus it on one person or to just ramp up the effects in combat, his opponent's fight or flight response gets screwed up, making their reactions slower. They'd be so calm they could not care less about the fact that someone is going to stab them to death in half a second
I feel that semblances are one of the most underused aspects of Rwby. I feel like that should be things to turn the tides of battle or be used as big plot points. As they are, it feels like something to just add flavour to fights. The only exceptions are Qrow's and Emeralds. I really liked the way Emerald used her semblance in volume 3, but she hasn't used it that way since. Then Qrow's is a big part of his character, but bad luck is not a tangible thing and so the characters have to sorta say that it's because of Qrow
You know, my friend asked this about Neo... "If Neo can easily change to her new attire, does that mean she's actually naked to not need to change her actual clothing?"
oh my god
Your friend might just be a genius
Well, we’ve seen her get punched and her disguise broke, so, no.
@@Dressup_Doll doesn't explain how she just changed to her new attire when she decided to join Cinder
@@AveryScarlet Her run-down clothes were an illusion in the first place. She merely switched her appearance to what she was actually wearing.
I doubt the writers would be willing to include it, but Neo could be even more creative with her semblance if she were to copy Naruto's sexy/harem jutsu tricks.
I like the idea of Glyphs being hereditary, but they could've kept it unique by having each Schnee get a unique ability. The military focused Winter would've had summons, while Weiss could've had the time dilation.
It would have been really cool if Maria's Semblance was to see and communicate with the dead. Like, by her design, she's based off of Dia de los Muertos (Mexican holiday "Day of the Dead"). It'd be so cool and emotional if she could show Ruby and Yang their mother Summer Rose, have them be able to speak with her. Imagine how much emotion and character development you could get from this? Ruby and Yang confessing that they're scared and just wanting to be normal kids again, and Summer offering apologies for not being there for her daughters.
Hell, Maria could let Team JNPR see Pyrrha again. I'd love to see Ren and Nora see her and tell her how much they miss her. And because Jaune has had enough Pyrrha crying time, let this be a scene where Ren and Nora get to show how they've grown and how they wish Pyrrha was around. Maybe Ren even cries and Nora hold him and comforts him while Pyrrha inspires her friends to continue and gives them all loving goodbyes.
Maybe we can see that soon because Maria hasn't really told anyone about herself maybe her speaking to the dead is a curse
Ay yo my dude, is it alright if I can snag this semblance idea for an OC I got themed around La Llorona? This shit’s pretty neat
While it does sound like a fun semblance and fits with the character's inspirations I don't really think it would work well in the show because it lessens the emotional gut punch that a death really has. RWBY is a show where (most of) the deaths have weight mainly because you know that these characters won't be able to come back. Having a character be able to speak to the dead feels like kind of a cop out and while I don't hate it by any means I personally don't think it would work.
I wish this too, but there r limits to semblances.
The worse thing about really powerful semblances like marrows is that the writers can’t really. Use it consistently, and it’s pretty much an instant finish to a battle as long as the plot needs him to use it. I wish writers in general would just. Not give their characters powers like that
Same thing applies to powers that tell the future. It’s something that’s only there because you absolutely need it for a few moments. Otherwise it leaves the question in the air. “Why not use this all the time?”
Or they give Characters completely garbage semblance. Like Ironwood. His semblance is a personal trait and no super power.
Thats why powerful abilities and such in media usually have limits to them, hard ones. So they don't get overused.
Yeah, in reality, the AceOps could use his semblance as a first-strike tool every single time and never lose. It needs more limitations to be feasible.
Yeah I disagree with Critter’s placement of his semblance in the best list. In an action show like RWBY, semblances meant to be used in combat should facilitate action, not inhibit it. He has the power to completely shut down any action scene, at such a low cost that it puts the writers in the shitty position of having to constantly justify why he isn’t using it.
Ruby semblance is ridicolusy overpower. And everyone forgot that
Ruby's semblance isn't the problem, it's her silver eyes. Personally, I wonder if the show is gonna have Salem try to pull a Ticktok and at least blind her in one eye
@@starrfall214 Her silver eyes stun Grimm. Her semblance can dematerialize a non-disclosure amount of people at will.

@@supergoodadvice853 im sorry, *WHAT*
@@catalinaargyriou8603 Yep welcome to Penny explains that Ruby's semblance evolved at some point to just straight up non instantaneous teleportation
When RWBY was newer and when I was younger, I actually came up with a character with a similar semeblance to Maria's. The idea is pretty close to reflexes but I joked and called it autopilot. The whole point was that the character's semblance caused their eyes to emit an aura allowing the character to automatically respond and counterattack physical attacks by humans and grimm. This, of course, drains aura heavily and isnt perfect. I just thought it was like a cooler version of Maria's semblance when it was revealed in the show. But until now I never fully understood Maria's semblance.
That's actually pretty dope. I like the idea of having the user close their eyes in order to activate the semblance. That in and of itself makes it better than Maria's by a long shot.
@@GoldenB0ltBLTZ that's a super awesome addition! So it's not too op
Actually before the introduction of gravity dust I thought it was her manipulating her weapons with a gravity like she can pull things towards her. But honestly would have been cooler and stopped the plot hole of why isn't everybody using gravity to us when they constantly lose weapons
so...basically ultra instinct as a semblance?
@@j3ssthealien283 Ruby actually used gravity dust in the Red trailer.
Fun Fact: Fiona's Semblance (Pocket Dimension) was originally planned for Torchwick.
Also Neo's Overactive Imagination is by far the most powerful Semblance of the show, it is applicable to nearly all situations. It's pretty much another name for Camouflage, a tactical concept that hasn't been developed in RWBY. That, and just think of her using Hard-Light Dust with her clones and BOOM!!, she's got a private army.
Here how to fix Ironwood semblance: Have him put his finger to his head in a thinking pose and have said hand glow. ;)
Personally, I'd have his Semblance be like a togglable state signaled by changing eye color and body language. Kinda like a more tame version of Klein's Semblance/disorder thing.
I was thinking brown eyes would be his default, but they'd turn bright blue when Semblance is in use (contrast I guess). When he doesn't use his Semblance, he is somewhat fidgety, unfocused and prone to panic, but with his Semblance active he's basically the very model of a modern major general. He becomes goal oriented, more aware and intelligent, he stops feeling emotions and runs on full logic.
I would go with the premise that he uses his Semblance like a bottle of anti-depressants and he just doesn't wanna stop using it, because it helps him cope everything he's ever been through.
His reliance on the Semblance would come up in battle, where if his Aura was broken, he'd have to come face to face with his feelings, because it would take some time before his Aura would replenish.
Personally, it feels like Ironwood's Semblance was just an afterthought someone thought sounded cool, but didn't take time to look at the implications or the story potential. Like about 90% of RWBY, cool concept, bad/boring execution.
@@redlock1353 That would be a really interesting way of incorporating his semblance. Too bad the show didn't go that route. (also, i see your pirates of penzance reference)
@Redlock 13 yes perfect *chef's kiss* it really helps the story and how sometimes these super abilities can be more harm than good. which I know isn't a theme of the show or anything but like. they can be
@@redlock1353 I wish the writers implemented his semblance like that into the show, that sounds so much better. @@redlock1353 You know, that would actually be an interesting way to use the semblance without even changing it that much.
they MURDERED weiss' semblances so much, i'm pretty sure the writers things it's bad.
it's probably more that the one animator who animated her fluidly died and noone was there to replace him. Glad it murder it in some way. Before it was a Mary Sue semblance. Whatever they needed to get out of something, suddenly Weiss can do it with her semblance. @@lightdragoon88 who care? they already stated what it can do and already shown how she can use it. and since it can't do everything, it could've been one of the best semblences to see in a fight. but limiting her to only using summons and ice is just lazy imo. they took something so cool and made it just meh.
@@notasquiremario3299 I mean the only thing they havent done since back then was alter time. Everything else she has still done.
To me, the Ironwood's mettle semblance isn't a thing. It hasn't actually been shown yet, and I hope it never is because of how dumb it is. The writers should scrap that idea entirely and actually give him a decent semblance or none at all. The luck semblances have always annoyed me too. Most of the time, we can't tell if luck is active unless a character directly mentions it.
Every once in a while, the camera will get shoved toward some part of the environment, as if to say "Oh noes!! This thing is moving, isn't that just so *unlucky* ???", which, to be fair, is about the best you can do to indicate that one of those semblances is actually doing anything.
I was so ready to fight for Glyphs being number 1 best semblance but honestly after Volume 3 the Schnees were never that impressive to me because all they do is Summoning and then get their auras broken afterwards.
Okay so Ive never watched the show but here’s what I’d do to ‘fix’ some of these powers
Elm
Instead of rooting herself have her root down others. Like her roots can bind her opponent.
Weiss/winter
Instead of doing like five different things each can only do one of the already given abilities. when using their ability they still have the snowflakes pattern thing to connect them as family.
Tyrian
Just make it like a poison gap. When he’s opponent gets hit they’ll become weaker and weaker as the fight goes on and all Tyrian has to do is wait them out and then go in for the kill. The guy already gives me scorpion vibes so why not lean into that
Raven
Just simplify to she can teleport . Give her the night crawler treatment so she has a limited range on how far she can go in one jump. And let’s say that if she has a deep bond with someone she can teleport to them regardless of distance.
Ren
The guy can just turn invisible. This can help explain why he didn’t use it against the grim before and now its more useful against everyone who isn’t a grim. Also let’s say as time goes on he can make others around him invisible.
Fox
So.... we can keep him blind but make him a fox fauns he’s other senses are enhanced because of this and make his semblance summoning foxes that he uses as ‘ guide dogs’/ ‘attack dogs’ basically make him have jujutsu kaisen’s Megumi Fushiguro’s Divine Dogs
Qrow/cover
Basically their attitudes /feels/outlook on life has real world effects. Clover has positive/good outcomes because he’s a positive happy guy. Crow has negative/bad outcomes cuz he’s depressed and is an alcoholic. Qrow has to basically take better care of his mental health for his semblance to have positive outcomes. And also he’s semblance only effects him and the people around him getting hurt isn’t he’s semblance but him thinking it’s he’s semblance and so on.
Or just have he’s semblance be turning into a crow and he can grow wings in his human form too because why not.
Hazel
Instead of not feeling pain just give him Deadpool healing. He can be reckless in a fight because he knows he isn’t going to die. When fight him his opponent will have to find a way to trap or immobilize him.
Robyn
She’s supposed to be a Robin Hood character so to give her magical arrows she can magically shoot and add a homing ability to them. Give the whole lie detector thing to someone in her inner circle so when a lie detector is needed there’s still one.
Maria
Give her foresight. she knows what everyone’s next few moves are is going to be and can act accordingly to get the best outcome. This would be limited to a few minutes ahead she can’t see days or years into the future.
Ironwood
Instead if influencing himself he can influence the emotions of others around him. This has a negative effect on him as it can cause his emotions and mental state to crumble. This can go to explain and add to his paranoia. He feels nervous so other around him feel nervous next thing you know everyone is freaking out. We can also add a whole he doesn’t know he’s doing it and thought that he never unlocked is semblance if we need him to be redeemable later on.
Also get rid of the hole can’t move when using their semblance. It’s pointless.
Amazingly done
I disagree with "Not being able to move" being pointless as it's a trait that seems to be attributed to semblances that require a lot of concentration, like Jaune's and Emerald's. Jaune's power has him pour his aura into someone else via touch, and Emerald is putting a lot of focus into her hallucinations to make them effective, which puts a lot of strain on her own mind at times. Movement requires some concentration of its own so that you remain aware of your surroundings and don't trip, fall, or bump into something (thus breaking your concentration entirely) and adding that on top of the focus required for their semblances could potentially prove too much for them, especially Emerald who's powers sometimes strain her while being stationary.
Now, I would argue that with schools designed to train huntsman and huntresses that classes based on training semblances should be a thing, especially for ones like Jaune's, Ren's, and Emerald's (possibly increasing their ability to concentrate in high intensity situations like combat), but you could also argue that removing the stationary aspect makes certain powers like these either too strong or too boring. Jaune's semblance for example just makes him become a walking wireless battery without it, more useful just being there and out of the fight so he can keep everyone juiced up and so the party's "healer" doesn't get taken down, and Emerald just becomes overpowered at that point since she could trap someone in an illusion and then shoot or stab them while they can't see her, meaning realistically the only excuse for her to lose a fight would be to make her opponent resistant to her semblance or to have her be like Marrow and rarely use it (Neither of which make her semblance more interesting imo)
It's also probably there to reinforce the importance of teamwork. Emerald has to be stationary to use her powers, but that's why she fights with Mercury and Cinder. She messes with her opponent's head so Mercury and Cinder can take them down much easier. Jaune has to stay still to amplify people, but he has teammates that can cover him when he does so he isn't a sitting duck. It's rare that these characters get 1v1 fights and in those it usually comes down to their combat ability more than their semblance anyway. There hasn't really been a time when these guys were called out for having to be still so it doesn't even seem to be that big of a negative for them
I like your idea for Ironwood's semblance the most of all the ideas I've read in this comment section so far. It fits with the Tinman thing with his emotions being important to his semblance and it's a non combat related semblance. I like the idea that Ironwood is just a badass fighter and doesn't need a semblance to win.
The worst part with Mettle is that you can't even argue with people about when it's in effect because then suddenly that's "robbing Ironwood of his responsibility towards his actions".
I was looking forward to seeing Ironwood make the wrong decisions and then have a complete 180 turn to realise his mistakes and set things right. However, with your comment in mind, I don't think that's going to happen and I'm not too interested in what he does next as he's being protrade as a puppet to his semblance
THIS! This is exactly why I agrre with so many that Mettle is the worst thing you make as a Semblance. Because if you're portraying him as the bad guy, then make it his choices. Now there's a clear excuse...
Then Marcus Black comes in stealing everyone’s OP semblances with his
Weiss’ glyphs have always been a favorite of mine, specifically in the older volumes. The way they were able to pair her fighting style with her semblance by having her jump on them and launch people was my favorite thing to watch. I really wish they kept up with that and stopped the overuse of summoning. I hope we get to see her fight like that again but I doubt we’ll get the chance. 😔
Same here I love it back at volume 1-3 it was amazing her fighting style was amazing. Sadly after volume 3 it want down alot all she does now really is summons :/
she's the best supporter honestly, she always gets hit or be beaten up when she's in the front
Elm's semblance is so visually close to Vine's (these names, wtf) that on a first watch I thought it was just an extension of Vine's own semblance. Made worse when Vine talked about "expanding your aura outward" or whatever. I thought he meant he was sending his aura, and his semblance, to help Elm stay rooted, not that she was doing it herself.
I even joked about that with a Friend.
"Imagine if those Roots were actually her Semblance and not just an Aura-Technique! That would be SO boring!"
I honestly can't believe they gave these two not only similar Aura Colors but similar Semblances too. It would have made so much more Sense! Because what does" expanding your Aura" even mean?!? 🤔🤨
I honestly thought that Vine and Elm were a couple like Nora and Ren, considering that their fairy tale is a symbol of marriage. But then they dropped that whole 'just co-worker' thing, and kinda threw that idea out the window.
I thought that too
Personally I thought she was doing it herself except I also thought it was an aura technique that anyone can learn.
Kinda disagree with Ravens place. Since it's so hard to travel around with boundaries, Grimm and other dangers. Maybe underutilised since we barely see her and even in her fight with Cinder, she could just teleport around with maiden powers and continuity errors.
I'd put it in honourable worst
But yeah, situational
Yeah, on any other person, this would be a great way to travel to loved ones
True, but I think a major criteria is how it is used in the show. And the answer it isn't really so it is shit.
@@theshire9173
Yeah to be fair, I'd put any sort of teleportation ability in fiction pretty high up there.
Tbh i think its interesting and ironic for her to have such a power.
I can imagine Team STRQ fighting with Raven's Portals like the Thanos fight with Doctor Strange, Spooder-man, Ironman and the Guardians.
I-
Yeah I think it would have been better to make ironwood human. He’s just a great soldier with a combat creative brain. That’s how he got to be a top rank general in a world like remnant.
imagine having an istant win semblance and never using it properly .
I'm glad to see someone talking about how dumb elms semblance is IDK how it would ever be useful but I'm surprised you didn't talk about the best Semblance in the show
Mercury Black's daddy issues
When I say I WHEEZED
@@Dressup_Doll How many people reply to you saying something along the lines of "best girl"?
You ligit made me laugh out loud
To be honest, I would put Mettle and Luck on the same level of worst. It makes ANYTHING they do just "plot-semblence-machina" no actions they do, or any actions the fans disagree with are just completely dumbed down to "Semblence".
Like, I watch ALOT of your videos so I know you are sick of this argument, but the OPS vs RWBY fight. There was one argument I kept seeing that was "oh the OPS lost because they relied on Clovers semblence" like, how? seriously how is that even part of the argument when his semblence has absolutly 0 indicating factors. Just like how anything bad that happens to team RWBY is just "oh, Qrow"
It's such a cheap way the writers can later say something fans hated to be due to "the semblence of x character who has influence over world events"
The idea of ironwood's semblance muddies everything involving him to a detrimental effect.
Like why did they even do it?
It really says a lot about the writing in the show, when out of the 4 main heroines, just 1 made it to the top 10 best semblances, and #1 belongs to a random minor henchgirl that Oum came up with and shoehorned at the very last minute into one of V2's episodes.
Weiss and Neo honestly have the most diverse and creative semblances that lend themselves to tons of interesting potential techniques, moves, and coreographies, but the problem with the Schnee's glyphs' skills and powers is that they are underused, poorly executed, or just forgotten at times, as you said. Overactive Imagination is usually executed better, and it's so "creatively OP" that is almost like a fusion of Emerald, Blake, Sun, and Marigold's semblances into one.... again, a main character's semblance is overshadowed by it.
Regarding Yang and Ruby, I feel that their semblances end up changing so much across the series, that characters constantly need to point out verbally what they do. Ruby at first was just super-speed, then it turns out that she turns into petals, and now she manipulates molecules... and negates mass/weight? Like Mercury could kick Ruby while using her semblance back in V3 and Penny was too heavy for her to carry in V2, but now she dematerializes and negates mass because.... dunno, "semblance evolution" out of nowhere or something. Same for Yang, which was storing up energy from attacks she received, but then a temper tantrum that boosts her attacks, and now is again back into storing energy.
Finally, some characters might as well not have Semblances, like Maria, Tyrian, and Ironwood. Every OP character already has super reflexes. Tyrian might as well break an aura normally with his blades, tail, or bullets, if his semblance requires him to land a hit or touch his target in the first place. And agree that Ironwood's is the worst offender. Is as if suddenly, after all these years, the writers revealed that Roman actually had a semblance that gave him the urge to steal stuff, "Kleptomania pulse" or something. Not every good character in this show needs to have a semblance, and some actually ended up being worse because of how poorly written their powers are.
Maria's semblance actually does have a subtle auditory cue, it's that high pitched note that plays during the clip where she catches the lemon.
You know what they could have done for fkin Lie Detector over here? Instead of glowing hand syndrome, why not have a white circle appear on the chest of the character being detected(is that the right word?) and have it form into a green checkmark or a red ex depending on if they are lying or not. Same with Ren! Why not have a petal effect surround the person he’s effecting? That would look so much more interesting, It’s not hard just be SOMEWHAT CREATIVE!
Oh my mf Jesus-kun I got a like, god damn-
I feel like what would be better for hazel is instead of jamming dust into his arm he has tattoos with dust imbedded into them not only would that make it cool character design. but it would also go with his theme better he's become a monster for Salem and tattoos are painful especially if you add in a line that putting dust into your body is extremely painful. I don't think he should have had a semblance I think instead Salem should have cast a spell so he becomes cold and heartless that's why he wants to protect children by killing them.
I just realized that Raven and Qrow's semblances would make waaaaaaay more sense if they were switched. Qrow would benefit way more from being able to quickly move between the various important characters he's connected to since he's actually interested in helping. And Raven bringing misfortune to people in her vicinity would add an extra layer to her abandonment of her family and why she just hangs out in the woods with a bunch of assholes.
Love Neo's semblance so much. A seemingly non-related comment, but I love how Arcsys animated her semblance in Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. The shimmer sfx, the shine, the way the glass falls is so on brand for Neo its fantastic.
What if Tok used a bomb vest, or led opponents into a trap filled to the brim with explosives. Seems ripe for abuse.
The way they used it was boring I wanted her to fight in an erupting volcano and swim in lava or something
Tok fights like she isn’t invincible.
She shouldn’t have been blocking or dodging Maria’s attacks.
She should fight recklessly, taking hits and attacking before her opponent can block or dodge.
Here’s the thing, Ruby’s semblance could easily be more powerful if she worked with it more. Giving the new info we got about it, it seems like she could really cause some trouble. Remember, she breaks whatever she’s moving down into its basic molecules. She can even break herself into multiple parts. If she trained with it more, she can probably use it on objects too.
You can tell the difference between Monty style semblances and Miles and Carey style semblances.
Monty semblances have a visual flair, are broadly applicable in combat, and is more likely to be modifiable with Dust.
Miles and Carey semblances usually serve a mechanical, narrative purpose, and are visually barebones or nonexistent to save on animation cost and time.
I've always hated how they treated Fox's telepathy. it's legit a REALLY powerful semblance when used correctly. in my team SAGE story the team leader Sky, has a telepathy semblance, and she uses it to potent effect, reading the minds of enemies mid-combat to know what they're going to do before they even do it, and then able to instantly relay battle strategies to the entire team without uttering a word is a VERY powerful ability. you effectively now have an entire team of people able to plan and communicate flawlessly without even hinting to the enemy what's going on, meanwhile you're ALSO always staying one step ahead of them by knowing their plans well ahead of time. not only that, but having the ability to plant ideas into someone's head remotely is extremely powerful, if they aren't aware of her semblance ahead of time they might not even realize the ideas aren't their own, it instantly causes confusion, or can mess up strategies and battle formations. add on the ability to look into memories, and Telepathy instantly becomes a powerhouse semblance that has an incredible range of use. admittedly, the semblance can't be used offensively against Grimm, but ultimately, how many semblances actually ARE used against Grimm?
TL;DR, Telepathy is an amazing semblance when used correctly. having an intelligent and strategic team Leader with a Telepathy semblance instantly makes that team well over twice as effective on the field.
A great example of telepathy done well is in the Team DARK fan animations with the blonde squirrel girl! Having her eyes change color when she's doing her telepathy thing convey's the idea of it sooo much better than what they do for Fox.
@@thejudgmentalcritter6584 love the DARK series, tho if im honest i never realized she had telepathy XD
I have a feeling Rhodes' Semblance deserves a honorable mention as one of the worst. It's basically just the ability to turn your skin to metal, but it just seems so useless. Like, he clearly can't make his entire body metal, he struggles to maintain said spot, and seeing from Cinder being able to touch the metal, we see that there's no Aura protecting the metal area.
It just feels like it's a Semblance that's only useful in certain disadvantageous positions that you'd have to willingly get yourself into to even pull off. Like, say deflecting bullets or blades, you'd have to put yourself in a position where you make contact with an enemy's weapon in one specific spot. Even as an emergency Semblance it's pretty limited, because it barely stood up to Cinder's heat.
The only useful thing I could see it being good for is if he had to turn his fists into metal weapons, or if he was about to get shot in the head. I think that if it was like a full body Colossus transformation, it would have been a lot more useful and a lot more badass. I'm all for weak super powers, I like it when characters have comparatively weak abilities in fiction, but this Semblance just feels like it was made for this one singular fight (which it probably was).
Imagine if the Rhodes VS Cinder fight was just Rhodes turning his entire body to metal and Cinder in a desperate attempt to win her freedom ends up defeating him by intensifying her heat so much that she burns through his nigh indestructible skin and burning his heart. Basically Rhodes would be cocky and sure that Cinder is weak, but she wins because she's underestimated. Could also have Rhodes die by turning into ash like Pyrrha as like a nod or a callback.
Then again, it's not like Rhodes' entire existence made sense in the first place. Like the whole 'why not call child services' thing. Kinda wish he was one of Salem's associates that trained her and not whatever misused cliche this was. This is just a rant at this point.
Cinder's backstory was better when it didn't exist. Change my mind.
Maria's sembelence seems more like weak precognition then reflexes. A prime example of this is when they are in Amity and she realizes that the bad guys are there before anyone else does.
Her Preflexes are basically Spider-Sense but because all characters in the show react to every attack the exact same way you wouldn’t know she had them besides very few moments like the one you listed
Especially when you realize that Aura already kinda does that.
@@JanizMakudomaru Same with Tock, her semblance doesn't seem to make her much more durable than a regular aura coat.
@@ProxyDoug And she's an idiot because from her one scene you can tell she's stupid enough to TELL her targets her power and how long it lasts so just outlasting the time is a win.
@@Step43099 that’s why Ruby’s semblance feels kind of lame, she’s a speedster yeah (at least before they changed it to full on teleportation) but everyone moves around like they’re on meth laced caffeine anyway.
Honestly, I refuse to accept Mettle as a Canon until we get an indication that it has actually been used in an Episode. It's just so incredibly stupid and makes Ironwood a much less interesting Character.
Ironwood is out here using the Undertale mindset; "Stay Determined!" eheheh
I guess it's not just that it keeps him determined to follow his ambitions though, a big part of it is also that he can BLOCK OUT other people's opinions with great ease. This let's him quickly make the brash decisions that less decisive people wouldn't be able to make.
also, I wish Roosterteeth weren't cowards and would've confirmed that Shay D. Mann's (the bandit guy that Yang punches in the face) semblance was "being bouncy." He's a character that wasn't and never with be relevant, so why not just let him have a really stupid semblance so that I can include it in a list of semblances, lol.
I was confused why the numbers kept going back and forward every entry and it took me until halfway through the video to realise it was switching between best and worst
Me after learning Neo almost killed Maria: I still like you.
She’s the only character who hasn’t been screwed up IMO
Not going to list my best and worst but do agree with your #1 worst and feel that could be its own video topic on why and the ramifications of its reveal to the story and character. I feel that Maria's semblance is not bad as a superpower in and of itself but as you said, in RWBY everyone seems to have it. Sometimes think crwby needs to realize, if you can't think of a good semblance, you DON'T have to force one. Glowing hand syndrome is just there to show that something is happening. If this was more realistic ( had to stop and laugh at myself for typing that) there would be nothing there for most of them, it really just there for the audience. Don't care what the " official" name for Tyrain's semblance is, I will always call it bad touch from now on XD. On an odd tangent, is that how your supost to say Nyan? I thought and have been saying it like knee Yan.
What bugs me about Maria is that her powers should be absolutely busted. Supernatural reflexes mixed with precognition is an extremely deadly combination that should make her basically untouchable. Brandon Sanderson handled this extremely well with the character Fortuity in the novel Steelheart, for a minor antagonist who only shows up in the first mini arc, he's nevertheless absolutely terrifying to deal with and makes himself seem almost invincible. His senses are so well attuned that he's basically immune to gunfire, and the only way to actually kill him is to trap him in a situation where every possible action leads to death, made all the more difficult by his reflexes making him more slippery than a hagfish. With Maria though, that seems to do nothing, she's only about as strong as any of the other major characters and she doesn't ever do anything to showcase that she can see the near future or react supernaturally fast
Pretty much everyone can react and move like she can, if they didn’t try and make it out that her super mega special ability was “pre-flexes” she would just be an old lady.
You should do a top semblances you’d like to see in the future, personally I think a foresight/future sight semblance would be cool as well as a semblance that could mess with the users gravity (making them weightless attracted to different surfaces etc...)
Fuck it King Crimson
Ok listen up. I COMPLETELY FORGOT about the time dilation of Weiss until I rewatched season 2. Like... wtf? That is sooo powerful.
My tweaks
Ironwood: Should Have Been like a hyper focus mode where he processes information much faster either he has that or Watts
Watts: if not the hyper focus mode then a semblance that allows him to manipulate inorganic materials around him not reality warping but sorta able to control their shape or move them
Tryian: Aura Poisoning Where if he uses his aura to touch yours your aura begins to slowly decrease even without getting damaged again
Weiss semblance is easily one of the most overpowered. If she used it properly she could take on any maiden.
Honestly I think it makes sense though, that she isn't using it well yet. She's young and still learning..... (well I doubt that's what they're actually going with, but if they were, I think it would make sense)
@@exloster9624 Thing is. They already did something like that for her
You could take on maidens if you used many powers correctly, I mean look at Neo.. she was overpowering Cinder and she's definitely only gotten strong since then. Sure Cinder wasn't going all out with her maiden abilities, but I'm sure Neo could put up an amazing fight
@@eliserss9179 Neo only was able to take on Cinder because Cinder wasn't using her maiden powers, if Weiss used her powers correctly she could take on an maiden even if they were using their abilities.
@@brandonontama2415 Penny was also taking on Cinder, and I'd say both are relatively similar in power. I'm not saying it would be a close fight, I'm saying she could hold her own for longer than others could and damage Cinder. I also have no clue how you expect Weiss to defeat a maiden.. you've gotta be one something because overactive imagination is more powerful in a 1 on 1 fight.
In my opinion, Qrows semblance while sticking with RNJR was kinda a huge compliment to RNJR as he did tell Leo that they “aren’t exactly pushovers”, I think he intentionally stuck with them because he thought they could handle anything his misfortune brought them. Just a thought tho
I feel like Tyrion semblance could have been something such as making poisons more potent
Also Robyn's attempt to make her semblance sound as bad as Qrow's doesn't exactly work when she keeps asking people to take her hand. Making it sound like she needs permission from the other person to do so.
I fully agree. I feel like the writers just wanted to give Qrow someone to relate to with his problems but since he's in prison the only options are Jacques, Watts, and Robyn and the writers didn't want Qrow relating to an antagonist. It would have been so much better if Willow and Qrow could discuss their problems together: they both have a drinking problem, they both have distanced themselves from the people they care about most, they both feel hopeless in their situations. I honestly thought we'd see Willow this volume since she's in the intro, but I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer to see what she's doing
Shir Levin willow is appearing in the next episode I think
Perhaps it could something interesting like making poisons being able to penetrate aura, rather than instant aura break which is simultaneously OP and incredibly uninspired. Here is another idea. Basically a twist on Jaune's. He can give 'aura' to others but instead of healing and protecting, it actively hurts and attacks like a poison.
Even a temporary break in a person's aura is enough to either get them with his tail, or otherwise injure them. I would guess that his stinger doesn't work through aura, but forcing a aura to drop opens the way for the poison.
@@helgrenze Okay, but if you break someones aura by touching them you can basically instant kill anyone.
Wait Ironwood had a semblance?
It's a stupid one
It the reason it make him a stubborn bitch
Ik that was me months ago...
Wait, what? I assumed he was like Torchwick.
@@AveryScarlet Torchwick was meant to have the semblance of that sheep girl Fiona, it was meant to be called “Deep Pockets” I think.
TBH I was never impressed by Blake’s semblance as well because 2 other people have and I’ve seen naruto before
ngl I would rather Ironwood's semblance were never revealed. Make it so that he lost his semblance after the 30th operation that replaced his actual body with robotic parts. Something like he's no longer able to use it because his body is torn apart
In my opinion, I don't think Qrow's semblance is really bad luck but is actually just a form of destruction. I mean really the only time Qrow's semblance is shown is when things break so maybe because Qrow doesn't have the right state of mind, he doesn't have good control on what he is breaking or destroying. Though this is just in my own observation
Okay it might be accidental good writing but after watching this and thinking about it, I do appreciate that Qrow and Raven have reflective personalities opposite their semblances. It's says something the way Ravens ability allows her to always be close to others if they form a bond but she would rather be alone and apart, and Qrow has an ability that would make him want to distance himself from others to avoid collateral but still chooses to have hope and be there for his niece and her friends.
I personally think that Glynda's semblance is the most powerful. It's basically Pyrrha's semblance but not limited to metal.
I also think that Velvet's semblance is really weak. Don't confuse her semblance with her weapon; her weapon is really strong and fits with her semblance, but her semblance basically just copies what other people can already do but is weaker because she can't mimic their semblances. If she ever tries to mimic Weiss's fighting style, she'd lose very quickly because Weiss has always used her semblance a lot in combat but Velvet can't mimic that.
Lastly, I think Mercury's dad might have one of the most powerful semblances but I wouldn't blame you if you forgot that. I don't fully understand how it's used, but the ability to take away someone else's semblance seems OP
Twiins iink actually made a good point about Mercury's dad; she noted that it feels a lot like they gave him that semblance as an excuse for why Mercury doesn't have a semblance.
Which is sad, because I really like the idea of Mercury or Ironwood being like Torchwick; regular people that never got Semblances, but still managed to keep up and even surpass the super heroes around them using their wits or naturally developed skills.
You'd figure a soldier would automatically have steeling themselves as something of a habit, not a superpower.
Heck, they could have foregone the cyborg aspect and had his semblance give his skin the appearance and properties of Tin/Steel/Titanium/Mythril/what have you and it would still fit his inspiration and meld with his ironclad will to fulfil his duty as a guardian of others.
The Steel thing would even give some play when fighting in extreme weather or around strong magnets as inherent weaknesses when he takes on 'all' properties.

I think adding a sound effect for foxes telepathy would help a lot (maybe like the twinkle for Anya when she reads someone’s mind?)
I mean, Ironwood's semblance being the worst is really just par for the course at this point. The writers aren't done ruining him, even now.

"Yea what is it?"
"Focus!"
"So.... You cant focus without it"
"Well... Yes.... But-"
"So you might as well not have a semblance?"
"Well.... No... But- you know what?? The writers just ran out of ideas for me... And the idea they came up with just butchered my character... Please.... Just.... Kill me off..."
Ren-I could have sworn that Ren didn't know what his Semblance was until s4
Hazel-he doesn't have a Semblance, he has a medical condition😂
You know,it'd be interesting if it turns out if one of the semblances was actually a lie. Take Ironwood's for example, what if he said his semblance was Mettle but it turned out to be something different or cover up the fact that he never unlocked it at all? Doesn't seem like an action he'd take but it does make him interesting.
Ironwood was only talked about in a a panel at RTX, so it's pretty much non-canon.
I'd like to see Robyn's semblance being a lie and she just uses her aura to trick people into revealing things to her.
I feel dumb, it took me until Emerald’s illusions to get that was one worst semblance, one good semblance, one worst, one good... Guess I will start the video again
lmao took me almost the whole video i was so confused!!
Tyrian's semblance is shown in V4. At the beginning of the fight with team RNJR, he tags Ruby and there is a quick shimmer of her aura. It's right before Jaune steps in to the fight.
For a long time I thought that Oobleck's speed was just a goofy cartoonish way for the guy that drinks coffe to move, and had no idea that this was his actual semblance😅
I still think Maria's semblance is cool. Sure the show doesn't treat it well but in theory it should be insanely poweful. Knowing what's going to happen moments before it does essentially means no-one can surprise attack you.
The main one I disagree with you is Marrow, it’s been used so poorly in the show, I’m not even one of those people that got mad at the ace ops fight, but I can still admit how stupid it was for Marrow to be able to end it instantly without fighting but choose not to for reasons, it would be fine if it had limitations, like not being able to stop things that have an active aura but we have nothing like that, it’s gotten to the point where it has done more harm to the show than good for me.
I really don't know why I keep reading comments about oh marrow chose not to use his semblance... he forgot he had one... will you just shut up already? No offense. He knows that his semblance is powerful enough to pretty much end the fight in the snap of a finger. so he doesn't always use it right away and he doesn't have to use it right away. I don't understand why you people think he always has to use it right at the beginning. Like nobody uses their semblance right from the get-go. nobody in this show uses their semblance at the beginning of a goddamn fight. NO ONE uses their semblance to start a fight
Some use them mid fight
Some use them at the end of a fight. Get over it. I really don't see why people are singling out marrow when literally other characters do the same exact goddamn thing. Just saying.... I agree with most of this list but Neos semblance. Meh. A great semblance but definitely not one of my favorites.
@@shadowslayer6698 Disagree with that. There are some moments where it is best to go all-out in the beginning of a fight. Marrow had ALL of team rwby in his sight and he could have stopped the fight right then and there.
@@btrando1 with the exception of things like rubys speed where she uses it during her combat, or hazel when he first started fighting, not everyone uses their semblance from the get go. but if marrow did that there would be no fight between rwby & ace ops and that would take the fun out of it. Using it to just win instantly is poor use of his semblance, rather than experimenting with it and see what it is capable of. You can disagree Sure but at the end of the day the ends justify the means
@@shadowslayer6698 True that
@@shadowslayer6698 Yeah using it like that would ruin the fun out of it cause this is a show but being realistic being able to stop a fight so easily is another reason why it is a great semblance
The way I see it, it makes sense from what we've seen of Tyrian that he wouldn't use his semblance to end fights quicker. He likes fighting, he likes causing pain and spreading chaos, he wouldn't want to shorten a fight unless he had to to fulfill Salem's wishes, like when he and Watts framed Penny in S7.
I'd love to see you talk abt the book and manga semblances!
So Adam can absorb energy through any object and yet he never uses his clothes to do this which would make him invincible that’s so dumb though. Why do they keep making these overpowered abilities that should make a character so much more difficult to beat and then not think about how they should be used. Rooster teeth konoyaro bakayaro
wouldn't that make his semblance kinda like black panther's suit? i mean, absorbing energy through his sword/clothes, then sends it back in an explosion/shockwave. i can see that, and it looks super cool!
I think Adam’s semblance works like Yang’s except he cannot feel the pain. Then he has to dish it out. Best way to dish out damage is through a weapon. His weapon of choice is a sword. If he were to use a whip, there would be a whipping effect instead of slashing.
Or why didn’t he use that gun of his
What they should have done with Ironwood's semblance is just say that he lost it due to his body being mostly robotic. Add that to how he feels helpless, since he once had a strong power, but it was lost due to him suffering a battle scar.
We have to realize that Semblances are an aspect of the soul, due to Aura.
*What the fuck happened to his soul?*
Wait...Adam's attack is "Moon slice?" And its black/red?
So...basically Getsuga Tenshou? Lol
Tbh, probably not the first to make that comparison
These guys tend to get a lot of their inspiration from anime and shows like it. Which is fine if done well.
Funny you say that because there were allegations that the crew used a grimmjow model without crediting the guy who made it
Dunno about Bleach, however I know for sure that Monty made Miles and the other clown watch Soul Eater as a way of understanding the 'anime vibes' that RWBY should give. Of course Miles being Miles didn't understand the concept of buildup in a story, he was annoyed at all the on-screen training that anime characters do which ironically resulted in RWBY having terrible power scaling. It's almost as if training arcs exist for a reason! lol
Ironwood's semblance essentially being hyperfocus is so funny to me as someone with ADHD like sorry, his semblance is just one of my fucking ADHD symptoms???? W h a t ?
Qrow and Ravens semblances being the opposite of their motivations is done on purpose.
also they have started going into the fact that Ruby's semblance isn't actually speed
and lastly
what your semblance?
Emerald: I can trick people's senses
oh cool, and yours?
velvet: good memory
I agree with Qrow and Clover being plot devices. I actually thought that Qrows semblance was turning into a bird. Then I was disappointed when he told team RNJR that it was really bad luck. Luck is irrelevant as it's a matter of perspective on whether it's good or bad and it doesn't help the characters development. Sorry for the rant but I had to say it
ironwood should have had Rhodes metal skin semblance. It would have been a reference to his tin man and he could have used it really creatively
how is polarity better than Glynda's telekinesis? polarity is basically just magnetism while Glynda can carry anything
