My family was there on 9/11. I was in 8th grade and still remember the announcement, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, due to the conditions in the United States, all of Disney is closing.. Cast Members; use evacuation plan B." Everything was handle as well as it could be, for everyone leaving all parks at the same time. No one panicked and all Cast Members did great. We didn't know what happened until we were in inline for the buses and someone from NJ got a call through to family back home. The most used phrase was, "I'm sorry we can't tell you anymore information. Go back to your rooms and turn on your tv for more information."

We were advised by a CM that if we bought our children a magic band under age 3, that a CM can scan the band and locate mom and dad within the park that way... or can look up contact info and call them. We did this just to be safe as our kids are 1& 2. Thankfully we didn't have any issues!

I remember me and my mother were on tower of terror once. There was a family of three in the seats in front of us, and the little girl, just from the tone of her voice, sounded absolutely TERRIFIED, and the ride hadn’t even started yet. By the time the ride was done, she was crying hysterically and the dad just went ‘wasn’t that fun?!’
Parents, if your child looks terrified when they’re getting on the ride before it even starts, don’t make them ride it! You’re asking to traumatize them!

As someone whose been a cast member: please don’t force your kids on rides if they’re clearly not ready. No one wants to stand in line with or ride with a terrified kid. I’ve heard “he’s tall enough he’ll be fine” and “they were fine on this other ride” too many times before watching a child have a full blown panic attack. RE "Lost" kids. My friend and I have kids with special needs and natural wanderers as well, and we love to visit Disney parks with them. We use surgical marker to write our phone number on our kids (skin safe and holds up to many washings/wettings) and bought "electronic leashes" (wireless beepers that we can activate at the push of a button) Ours are shaped like teddy bears and can be attached by either velcro strap, on a belt, pinned to backpacks, or even on their shoes, and they have sets that include sometimes multiple bears controlled by a single "parent" fob. These are great and have enough range that we could activate in Disneyland from the Mad Hatter Shop when we were there, but my daughter was with a Cast member all the way at the Train station (they were intrigued and offered to help us test the range). We taught our kids that if they started to beep, they should stop where they are, scan to see if they can see us, and if not, to find a cast member and let them know that we were looking for them The Beeping is DEFINITELY noticeable and will get attention on it's own, and really helps with relocation. Just an extra line of defense.

I remember I went to Disneyland Paris back in 2014/15, and on the second night there was a suspected terror alert in the main trainstation. My friends and I were on our way to visit the main shop one last time, ended up being shoved back by crowds of people running away from the park and police sirens going off. We were so confused and quickly went back to the hotel where everyone was being kept in their rooms and told not to leave. Turns out a guy was on the train carrying a costume blade in his luggage, apparently wasn't gonna do anything but was still pretty scary!

Honestly biggest disaster is the transportation at the end of the night! It is truly a nightmare! Best advice is to realize no matter which way you plan on getting back to the hotel, it is going to be a terrible experience. The Disney shuttles are packed, if you have little kids or strollers, it makes it that much worse. I found it best to if you have a rental car or drove to the parks to just go to the comfort of your own vehicle and fight the 45 min of traffic. You will be in line for over 40 minutes regardless

I can't speak for Disney World but I was a lost kid one night when we were in Disneyland in 2002. I don't think I'll ever forget that night. We were caught in the rush on closing to get to our hotel's shuttle, it was dark out & there were lots of people doing the same. It was during December, I think that was the night where we had a dinner reservation later in the night so it was dark by the time we were heading out & everyone else was at the same time too it felt like. It was easy to lose my party in the crowd & I got very turned around. I was 11 so I was an older kid but it was still terrifying. One of the cast members found me & escorted me to a spot where there was another lost child. We talked for a bit & it took my mom quite a while to find me. It was two adults with four kids plus it was dark & chaotic so I get that it was probably easy to lose track of one kid, the oldest kid who should of known better at that but it was just all the circumstances adding up. The cast members who watched us were great, I just remember them being super nice & comforting. We did miss the last shuttle to our hotel but we caught a ride on a shuttle to a different hotel near ours, driver said it was alright. Probably doesn't help much for a Disney World situation but it brought back memories of that night hearing about it being talked about. Sadly it was 2002 & although I knew my mom's cellphone number, the cast members didn't have cellphones on them given it was much less common back then so I just had to wait around for my mom to show up, I'm sure now it's easier given most people have phones.

Not a Disney ride, but my sister was the complete opposite of the freaked out toddler in your section about kids being too young to rise the roller coasters. My dad took us to British theme park and zoo Chessington where they had a hanging coaster back when those things were new (25-30 years ago -- her kids are now older than she was at the time...). My dad wanted my sister to go on the ride and basically bribed her to go on with the park's amazing fudge (so amazing I can still taste it now). After she got off the ride and got her fudge, she wanted to go back on!
I never had a problem with fast rides, but I will confess to not liking the ones that swung you upside down or tilted to an almost vertical position. It did take my dad several pieces of fudge to get me on the magic carpet at Lowther Park, but I kinda enjoyed it since we didn't go upside down.
I now get motion sickness so the most I'd do now would be those whirling teacup rides and It's A Small World.

I was lost in WDW when I was like 5. This is what I've been told multiple times: My dad was ordering food for my sister and me, we were standing behind him. He was looking back and forth between the CM, and us trying to get our order. My dad turns around, AND I'M GONE! 😨 My dad naturally panics, and tells the CM that I'm missing. She calms him down, and asks for a description. Picked up the phone, called a number, gave a description, hung up, and told my dad to wait there. All of a sudden, every phone in the park starts ringing (think forerunner to the Amber Alert system). A few minutes go by, and her phone rings. I was found at Me. Toad's Wild Ride. My dad gets there, and I shout "DAD! YOU LOST ME!" Fast-forward a little while later, my mom returned to the hotel to see my dad passed out on the bed, wondering why we're back so early. It's been a favorite family story ever since

I didn’t use this at Disney (I’ve never been yet) but I’ve used it at a different amusement park and it works great. You also can use other mobile apps as well.
If you want to get your kid’s or parent’s attention on their phone and they’re freaking out and not looking at their phone because they’re looking for you, play find my iPhone sound (because the user has to shut it off on their own) then put it on lost mode, it’ll show a message on the screen that you can make saying where you are so they know.

I LOVED this video! Thank you AJ, this was really informative and helpful. Answered a lot of my questions and concerns about going and having issues come up. Having never been there, we are planning for a trip and want to be prepared. This really was great.

What about losing your wallet/car keys/phone/ camera? Me and my family have done all of the above. On my last visit in April, I left my camera on the monorail. There was a “lost and found” service that involved an online form to fill out. After 24 hrs, I still hadn’t heard anything and I was leaving the next day so I checked at the Guest Services in Disney Springs. They were able to do a real time check of the “found” database and after a short wait, they located where my camera was located and had it brought to the service center. Cast Members Rock!

Okay no rhyming intended, but heatstroke is absolutely no joke and I can say that because I live in Phoenix, Arizona where it gets really, really hot in the summertime. And even though it’s a dry heat unlike how humid it gets in Florida, it’s still really bad nonetheless. Keeping yourself well hydrated is an absolute must for anyone living in Arizona.

Those disaster does happen, most of those times I have to ask cast members about where long lines, do updates of which rides closed for refurbishment, ride breakdown on test track (waited for 2 hours, ppl left but we stand our ground and my family the first to in the ride when it got fix), scan for routes in parks, and when AJ said ppl lose thier kid, that's me being the lost kid from decades ago to current. Me being the navigator of the group and i lost my group for not catching up with me. LOL u learn and experience it 😂

Hahahahaha! The kids scared on the ride...... Definitely been there and done that! The Hollywood Tower Hotel originally at California Adventure. My boys were probably 6 and 3 at the time, but that scared them both so much that we could not go into a building for the rest of the vacation and it affected them for years afterwards. Lesson learned! :)

When I was in high school our marching band had the chance march in one of the parades in Magic Kingdom and in both 2010 and 2012 I managed to trip over those trolley tracks. 😂😂

A voucher to come back only works if you can actually come back or plan on it. They should give your money back. If something gets rained out I can't just come back. I live far away don't got that kind of money. Get cash back should be a option

Protein spill story: My very first time on Mission Space (it was when the ride first opened). We were in the Orange line and were getting worried because of the many warnings we kept seeing. Then we hear a cast member announces that there will be a short delay, that the ride is currently down. After the groans, someone from the front of the line yells “SOMEONE PUKED!!!!” Everyone cheered and made the wait worth while! I think about this every time I get in line for this ride.

I have been paying attention and STILL totally tripped on the Main Street trolley track. 🙈 Fortunately I’ve never seriously injured myself in doing this, though. Also, about that moment when your kid suddenly has to use the bathroom? We just had this happen two weeks ago. We were already past the turnstiles at the Tiki Room and suddenly my kid just HAD to urgently go. I didn’t want to mess up their count, so I told a cast member and he assured me that we could get back in by telling a cast member at the exit. Sure enough, they let us back in right before the actual show started.

I watch these. We just went in April, but looking into next year even the rooms at Shades Of Green will be over $200 per night. It is getting that we can't afford it anymore, especially with much of the park still closed.

When I was a kid I was terrified of elevators breaking down. I tried to go on tower of terror but backed out at the last minute. So a cast member escorted me and a parent out of the queue, which required riding an elevator...

If you are trying to get from the Magic Kingdom to Disney Springs, maybe take the bus to Saratoga Springs or Old Key West and take the boat from those two resorts to Disney Springs or walk from Saratoga Springs to Disney Springs. .

I'm surprised you didn't suggest the Skyliner as a fast, stress free way of exiting the park at night. When I stayed at Pop Century, I never used a bus from PC. I'd take the Skyliner to Hollywood Studios or Epcot back to the resort. I also used Skyliner to those parks then picked up a bus to Magic Kindgom or Animal Kingdom when going there.

What about approaching hurricanes? I heard the parks close and the guests have to stay in their resort rooms. Is that right?
On a different note, a few years ago my niece sprained her ankle after sitting and falling off a handrail while in line for Soarin’ ( wasn’t supposed to sit there to begin with but wouldn’t listen...) A cast member helped us get her on the ride, off the ride , back to the front main area of The Land, and even brought us a wheelchair to take her to get checked out. Great emergency experience with Disney!!!
