Thank you for sharing the full experience. While I am past this stage myself as a parent (my little is now 17) I am a therapist and there are many times where clients will compare their lives with the "picture perfect" snippets they see on social media. Of course that is not healthy in and of itself but I just really appreciated you verbally sharing the real things we all go through in such a respectful way. ❤️
This is what grandparents are for. We recently went on vacation with our son, daughter-in-law and our 2 year granddaughter. We spent time with our granddaughter at times and let our son and daughter in law go off and have fun on their own. It was awesome for all!!! When Luke is older plan a vacation with grandparents and it will be very memorable for all. We can't wait to do it again! Thanks for sharing what you did because at times at all seems "perfect" with your adorable kids when in reality we all know that nothing is "perfect".
I learned with our first child, they’re not vacations - they’re TRIPS. 😆 The return of the relaxing vacation WILL come at some point. It’s a season. ❤️ Thanks for taking us along!
Your doing a great job as parents. We raised 2 kids and I remember those days, good and bad. I wish all children were as lucky to have parents like you two. Enjoy your beautiful vacation ! 🌸
Catching up on the Cape Cod series now... it looks so beautiful. And oh I can relate to how hard it is to travel with kids. I now understand where so many happy retired empty nesters are on vacation, haha! Thank you for sharing a real representation of a family vacation. I know it makes me feel better! xx
Thank you for sharing that vulnerable moment about how parenting is not picture perfect ALL THE TIME. Sometimes you feel like you're the only one who has children who aren't having a good day which makes for a hard day for us parents. Even though we all know that logically no one is perfect, sometimes it's helpful to hear that we all sometimes share similar struggles. Although, we have many, many beautiful and wonderful days, some days are hard and I appreciate your honesty. Love your videos and love seeing your lovely family! Abundant blessings to you all!
😄How true, love your honesty! Mom always said, when your kids are small, you have small problems;) And when your kids get bigger, you have bigger problems;) You have a beautiful family, you're an awesome mom! Enjoying your vacation videos! Looking forward to your Nantucket adventure! Love Nantucket😍
Once our girls arrived, they were no longer called Vacations, but, Family Trips. I can tell you though, that time has a lovey way of blurring out what you described, and leaving just the wonderful memories.
Aww Hilary when you opend up at the end of the vlog about the reality of taking care of your children ... while on vacation, it meant a lot. You and Dan are awsome parents and your children are a credit to you. Loving your vlogs. Thankyou for sharing. By the way, Luke looks like you ❤
Family vacations certainly have their moments! The three younger ones will have little memory of the trip. But, the memories remain, and having the ability to photograph it all so beautifully, a blessing. When you return home, you might think to journal memories as well.
Your so right about children on vacation. As much as us parents want all the memories, it's hard for them when they are small to adjust to a different routine. When my son was 4 , I took him to Disneyland ( was not as big or as expensive as it is now) he does not remember but , when he was 8 he remembers it all. I learned with him so I started taking my girl early on just car rides to SF to see our family. Then when she was 8 we went on vacation to NY( I'm originally from there) and she had a blast. Thank you for sharing your beautiful sites of your vacation with us. 🙋🏻🙋🏻🙋🏻🤗🤗
Thanks for being so real and letting us know that your kids aren't perfect and your life isn't perfect. Sometimes I struggle while watching social media because all I see is everybody else's kids being perfect and than I strive for that level of perfection and I know I'm never going to get it and I get really frustrated. I have to remember that my kids are kids and they are not perfect and I can't expect them to be perfect.
Thanks for sharing that part at the end. It’s so easy to get into the comparison game when you mainly see the highlight reel of people’s lives online. While I learned that it’s just that, thank you for addressing it.
Awe so so true Hillary. This is exactly why we all relate so well to you,... Keeping it real!!! But your kids are absolutely adorable. Luke with his blinking on the whale boat, ahh HIS EYES! The girls looked so cute with their dresses & sweaters & Lara asleep on the booth... Haha. yup crying, fussing, misbehaving along with oohs & aahs, and hugs & kisses, you're appreciating it all & that's what counts!! ❣️❣️
Dear Hilary, thank you for sharing your beautiful vlogs, so sweet and lovely, like everything you do. I absolutely agree about vacationing with children, last year we had two big trips, one involved 8 hour flight with a 1 and 7 year old children. It was very chellenging but very memorable. I think trips and experiences are what children remember the most from their childhood, not the big gifts or toys. You are a beautiful Mother and I am looking forward to more videos from you!
I totally get it been there done that. It's really hard when their little, I think every parent deserves a vacation without their kids. Even if it's a weekend getaway just to regroup from the day to day stuff.
Thank you for sharing the facts of family vacations and not glossing over the tough times. I hope your children do remember these great memories. My son, now 25, says doesn't remember many of the things we did when he was 3 - 6 years old. I hope he remembers at some point! Thank you, too, for sharing the beautiful sites of the area.
I remember when my son was little I asked a friend of mine (in desperation) whose kids were grown up "when does it get better??", she said "It never gets better, it only changes". It's all worth it! I love Nantucket, hope you all enjoy it!
Beautiful memories. Thanks for being transparent and sharing your Mamas heart. So important for young parents to hear this in our Instagram "perfect" age. Most important to train and instill values, morals, appreciation in our children to carry on as they walk in this world. You and your husband are in the thick of it, and I want to encourage you to press on! You are doing a fantastic job.( Mom if 4, grandma of 17).❤
I love the honesty!!! Its so easy to wonder why your kids act naughtier than the ones on RUclips. You forget that all kids have meltdowns, you just don't see it.
I always tell people vacation with your children is not quite a vacation (not for mom anyway). We make it a point to have a family trip and an adult vacation (even if it's just a weekend away). These videos are precious, thank you for keeping it real!
Its so refreshing to hear someone much younger then I say that this time in your life while the kids are young it's hard, but nothing compared to when they become teens/adults. I don't think I was that wise at your age. I thought when the kids got older it would be easier boy did I get a rude awaking.. LOL... One is 22 the other 19 both boys and my 22 year old is a HAND FULL! LOL. Yes we ALL have moments that are not perfect, but the good moments far out weigh the not so good ones. Glad to see you are all enjoying the Cape. My in laws live in Barnstable and it's gorgeous! The cape is so picturesque...
Thank you for being real about the hard times. I raised my children in the days before social media so there was much less comparing. I think it's really helpful when bloggers show that their lives are not perfect.
Thanks Hillary. I recognize your story about vacation with kids. It's good to have the memories but also acknowledge that there is real life going on. Love from the Netherlands, I've been following your channel for years now.
This is wonderful.... and your children are beautiful... your son.. oh my that smile! I remember only too well those “vacations” ... In all honesty, my husband and I took our 2 daughters on a vacation, away from home 2 times! Once to Maine and once to Niagara Falls, Canada. Our “outings” became a one day trip or out in the back lawn sitting around a fire-pit. It was stressful for everyone. Total opposite personalities and it was more fun doing the “sit around the fire and talking, etc”... Vacations with little ones, is simply another regular day in a different location with strangers. Can not wait for Nantucket!! Would love to go there!
Kinda funny, I was just talking to my mom about a vacation we took when we were all young and how fun it was and she laughed and said "are you kidding that was the worst time ever" the kids will not remember the upset or grumpiness but they will remember all the good stuff and all the fun and things they got to see. Hang in there lol
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful vaca with us!!! I am living vicariously through you😁 You are such a wise mama. So glad you& hubby have each other to get through the lil hiccups that can happen when regular routines are changed. Can’t wait to see Nantucket 👍
This will be the fifth year we vacation to Maine. Our boys are seven and five and a half. I feel you Hilary! Some moments are not as desirable as others, but I wouldn't trade this season for anything.
Thanks for sharing was awesome seeing your precious family. And yes it’s difficult at times but y’all are making memories as a family. Its amazing to watch, ♥️
Thank you for your honesty. Vacations are hard with kids. I am so glad you talked about the hardships so many RUclipsrs try so hard to make everything look perfect when life isn’t. Thank you for sharing your vacation with us. ❤️
So true, travelling with kids is not exactly relaxing. But it’s nice to make the memories and as my mom always said, kids need to get away too. The change of scenery does everyone good. At least they want to go away with you now, just wait til they are teens. But when my daughter was 10 we did a day in Nantucket just us two. It is such a happy memory for me. And we left from Harwich ❤️😎
🤗. Thank you Hilary for taking us along! You are right it is hard to take young children on vacation, but it does get easier when they get bigger and they can do things for themselves.
There were 6 of us, I had triplet brothers, I'm sure we were a handful ☺️. And we went on vacation twice a year, all over the country. Such great memories!
It was so nice to see your children in this video. I totally understand not wanting to put them out there but, it has been a long time since you have showed them. They are getting so big and they are a wonderful combination of you and your husband. Such a beautiful family and your message to other parents today was spot on. Raising children can be hard but, it's hard for everyone at one time or another.
you beat me too it :) . . . wait until their teens . . . enjoy every second . . . literally ride the waves with grace . . . it sounds like you are doing just that :).
Thank you for your honesty. I have a 4 yr old and there are always challenging moments. Nice to hear another mom admit to experiencing the same. I always tell myself though, these days don't last and we try to make the best of it all....the good moments and the frustrating ones too. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your honesty ! I feel you so much having 3 children myself. Looking on the bright side, you will remember the nice and restful parts of the holiday. And personally going back I would go and have the holidays with my children like I did because they grow up so fast. We can always have couple holidays when the children are older !
Thank you for being so open, honest & for sharing your full experience. Loved the history the town has to offer & you are making wonderful memories with the family. Greetings from South Africa
Hi Hilary! Glad you got to see some whales. Luke’s sweater was perfect 😊. Yes, these stages are just temporary and they’re not little for long. You and Dan are wonderful parents 😊. 👍🏻😉🌊🐳⛴
Love your take on vacationing with kids! You’ve quickly become one of few youtubers that I will watch any video they put out. Have loved seeing your Cape Cod vlogs, my family vacationed there twice when I was a kid, I would love to take my daughter there someday (although we are a bit further away in Washington state 😂) 💗
Thanks for speaking truth. We’ve all been there. My kids are grown having their own kids now and believe me kids are all the same. Love seeing your vacation it looks so quaint and charming. I’d be eating some kind of seafood everyday. That’s my favorite.
Thankyou for sharing your trip Hilary! What an amazing vacation! Your children are beautiful and you and Dan are wonderful parents and it is heartwarming to see you share your inspiration and wisdom. You are so right about parenting and taking the good with the..not so good but at the end of the day when you tuck your little ones in bed it is the good that will out weigh all! I am a mom of older children and my youngest who are 10 and 12. My oldest daughter is 23 and in the Air Force and I look back to how fast time went and I think , how did we get here so fast? My son and daughter in law just welcomed their first child , my first grandson and I think, wow, how did we get here so fast. Enjoy all the time while they are young . You are blessed and time goes so fast! Here I am rambling again. Have a wonderful day and I can't wait to see more of your trip! Maybe a haul from the antique store !! 🇺🇸👏
So funny you said that, because a moment ago I was just amazed how cool you all looked and I was speculating on what is the key. We have 5 kids so you can imagine how our vacations go. 😉 Thanks for sharing.
I actually do document some of the hard times with my little guy (with photos and videos of him crying etc, and in the journal I keep about him) because I think it's important to remember the rough times as well as the beautiful ones. I hope that maybe one day if he has children he will be able to look back and see that we went through all the same things 🤷 it feels like a more realistic snapshot of our lives during this season.
I am loving these Cape Cod vlogs! A few years ago my husband and I spent a week in Chatham and loved it! We can’t wait to go back. This is such a nice way to start my Sunday!
When my brother and I were preschoolers, we had both morning and afternoon naps which morphed into quiet time as we got a little older. I'm sure it cut deeply into our parents' lifestyle, LOL. The alternative however, as you said, cranky, crying acting out children was a horror neither of them wanted. I have twin godsons and my memories of their toddlerhood included some of those "I'm so tired I can't do this anymore" spells, but also are the moments that can't be recaptured. They're 10 now and I'm building new memories. Each stage has its issues but it's all a blessing.
Thanks for mentioning how HARD family vacations can be while juggling little people. They get so tired without their routines! You’re not alone in that! Thanks for sharing your trip.
wow Hilary... you should name your channel- Old Soul... because you are so wise and mature. I am an older mother and if I only had your wisdom back then. It's so true, enjoy the little ones even when they misbehave because the time passes by quickly. When you blink your eyes, they are teens and then adults. Enjoy each and every moment and take lots and lots of pictures :-)
I totally relate to your chat at the end. We just took my 6 year old and 8 week old on a 20 hour road trip. Parts of the trip we thought "are we nuts?". Even though they are little we are trying to open their hearts to travel and building memories.
What an absolutely beautiful family! Thanks for sharing your vacation. Looked amazing. Please enjoy your children time really does go by so quickly. ❤️
Love that you shared that vacation with kids is not easy so many people make it look so easy and then I am like what am I not doing right? The truth is exactly what you said and sometimes it's nice to hear it from other moms/parents. At the end they do grow up way too fast and the memories will stay with us for a lifetime ❤
OMG I can't go to an amusement park at all anymore. We went to Disney and more kids were crying there than any other place we went. Our kids just wanted to swim. They are hard forever it gets worse when they get older problems are bigger.... Sorry to be Debbie downer.... LOL life and kids are a challenge at every phase of their lives. Then they add grandkids now they are the best.
Wow, just an amazing family! I actually am from Upstate NY and we recently moved to Cape Cod at the end of June!! I highly recommend you go to Captain Frosty's in Dennis MA!! It has the best seafood ever and has delicious ice cream for children-it can be busy during the summer! Another wonderful restaurant is "The Marshside!" It is located in East Dennis MA and is overlooking the goreous marsh-be aware it can be busy at times! I suggest going to "Just Picked" in Yarmouth Port MA! :) It has wonderful Beach home decorations, highly suggest! There are some amazing beaches on the Cape too! Mayflower Beach is located in Dennis MA and has wondeful sunsets. Be aware, if you go to the beach during the day time you have to pay around $20-30 for parking. If you go anytime after 5 PM it is free! It is less crowded at times too. Another amazing beach with the best sunsets is Cold Storage beach located in East Dennis MA! Highly recommend, like all beaches on the Cape it is FREE parking and entrance after 5 PM! I hope you enjoyed your time in Cape Cod, visit again!
Your words are so true! I think its especially true for children that are accustomed to a schedule and routine. Vacation was tough when mine were your children's ages. It does get a little easier when they are no longer babies/toddlers. We took a short trip to the mountains when my son was around 2. Quaint little town that looked so peaceful and relaxing. Little did we know that their garbage truck was going to come every morning at 5:45 and literally back up between our room and the place next door. The beep beep beep went on for over 15 minutes and the guys were yelling directions at one another for the whole time. Needless to say both children were up and at it at 5:45 for 4 days straight. We were totally exhausted by the time we left for home. We laugh about it now but WOW we were worn out. There is a cute saying for this time frame in your life....The days are long but the years are short. I sure do miss those days.
when our 4 were growing up we mostly did a week at the beach each summer because we knew it would be the most fun for the kids and it would be smoother overall. When they were teens we started to let them bring a friend and that worked great too so they wouldn't just be stuck with their parents, lol. When we wanted to do a trip like you are just my husband and I would go for a long weekend and do grown up stuff. Thats what worked for us :)
My husband and I just had a similar conversation. We’re on vacation in Hawaii right now with our two little ones and it’s been a lot of work. We need a vacation from our vacation! 😂 It’s nice to know others go through the same thing. ☺️
Thank you so much for sharing that about your kids. I have 2 small boys, 5 and 3, and it can be tough for me (especially with my oldest) and I always wondered if boys were a different type of hard than little girls. This was such a relief to hear as I sometimes questioned my parenting and wondered if I was raising them "wrong". Thank you for your transparency. It really helped me.
I remember with driving to Disney World, down the East Coast, we'd stop for one night and our kids couldn't fall asleep right away, laughing and playing, and it's like us parents were so tired, please, please go to sleep.........lol
God bless you for sharing your truth! It’s so easy to watch videos and see social media and feel inadequate. It’s always nice to be reminded that everyone else’s reality is more similar to your own than you realize.💕
What a fantastic way to end this vlog. Once my children grew up and we had an empty nest our vacations ended up visiting them as all three went into the military. They all are married now and we have three grandchildren, (with hopes of more) We now rent a big cabin at a state park not too far from us and we have the grandkids for a week. It’s exhausting but we know we are making wonderful memories for them. The few times we had a night away from our kids or a long weekend when our kids stayed with their grandparents, we ended up talking about how much we missed them. Children respond well to routine so take them out of it and chaos tends to happen, which turns out to be a great teaching moment. The memories of temper tantrums will fade in time...I promise
You're right, when they are little, vacations are not realxing at all. But like you said, we hang on to the good memories and keep on going. Thank you for being honest and sharing that side of it. My kids are very little and we haven't yet gone on vacation with them, other than going to see family, but I hope we can soon. We do go every year to a place to meet with a large group of extended family, but I don't really count that because we never get to pick the place or even what we want to do there. It's still fun, though. Exhausting, but fun.
I love when you go into sharing about being together with the good and the bad. Realizing this about my adult family these days, so it seems that's what family is all about. Love one another. Thanks for your lovely content, and countenance. I really enjoy your channel and following your adventures :)
OH HOW I REMEMBER THOSE FAMILY VACATIONS....HOWEVER, I WAS USUALLY THE ONE WHO WAS "ILL"" AND GRUMPY...YOU WILL HOWEVER REMEMBER ONLY THE SWEET MOMENTS....THANKS FOR TAKING US ALONG....I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO VISIT CAPE COD !!
How funny, I was thinking that you have the most well behaved children I have ever seen, and I am sure they are. However, they all have those moments. My oldest is turning 39 in a few days, and what I wouldn’t give to have those childhood moments back. Of course, I wouldn’t mind being 39 years younger either. I am excited to see your Nantucket video. That was the place I most wanted see and was so happy to finally make the trip. I love the whole New England area. Have fun.
Yes!! So glad you’re honest about “vacation” haha we went on our very first family vacation with our 2 year old to the beach which was a 10 hour drive. Overall he did amazing, WAY better than I thought he was going to do. But truthfully I wasn’t on the beach as much as I like to be because the heat was too much for him and wore him out. But hey, we made some great memories and we plan to go again next summer, but maybe to a more kid friendly resort. You’re doing awesome as a mom, enjoy your family vacation, they won’t be little forever! ❤️
Thanks so much for sharing your vacation! It looks like a beautiful place! Totally get what you're saying about traveling with kids. We have three as well--8, 6, and 3. We rarely go on vacation for just the reasons you mentioned. :) It's all just part of the process. It will get easier--right? :)
The kids won't be little forever. It's hard to imagine when your going through it but the day will come when all you will have to do at the beach is read a good book, swim and people watch.
It’s nice to hear your family is “normal” Hilary and your honesty is refreshing! .... we have all been on vacations with our children and understand ...we are parents every minute of every day no matter where we are just different scenery... enjoy Chatham it’s a lovely place I have stayed there as well ....xx
As a grandparent I know you have really exhausting times as a parent as well as wonderful family times. You are wonderful parents.I know this is hard to believe but the years go by so fast. There will be a time that you will wish they could be small again. It is nice if you can get away with just your husband once in a while. As a Grammy I feel sure that your parents or some family member would love to have the children for a few days I admire the way you two are parenting. Enjoy the rest of your vacation.
Thank you for sharing the full experience. "Parents don't go on vacation. They just take care of their kids in a different city."
And you'll need a vacation after your vacation. LOL
Alyssa Morgan ah man, I just said that before I saw this! So true! 😂
LOL!

Appreciate that mom truth! Being a parent is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but the joy is so worth it. Have a great vacay!

Oh my goodness- I’m so glad you said that about your vacation with kids! I’m always grateful when we’re back home. ☺️😅

Yes! 💛💛💛
Thank you for your honesty! I’ve enjoyed your vacation!
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful vaca with us!!! I am living vicariously through you😁 You are such a wise mama. So glad you& hubby have each other to get through the lil hiccups that can happen when regular routines are changed. Can’t wait to see Nantucket 👍
Love how you always keep it real!! 🥰
This will be the fifth year we vacation to Maine. Our boys are seven and five and a half. I feel you Hilary! Some moments are not as desirable as others, but I wouldn't trade this season for anything.
I love your honesty!!! Oh the vacation meltdown’s !! I remember them well!! Glad your having a fun time!!
Real life vacations! You're keeping it real! Looks like you are all enjoying yourselves. You'll need a vacation from your vacation :)
These are the BEST days of your life! Enjoy!!!!
We live on the Cape and it’s indeed a gorgeous place. I’m glad you had fun here.
Luke in the sweater! 🐳 ❤
I'm so glad you shared the reality of parenting during vacations! It's nice that you put things into perspective. Totally been in your shoes!
Vacations with kids is a trip! I hear you. Thank you for being honest about that!
It will get easier! Treasure the moments before they’re gone...beautiful family & TYFS!
I'm glad your family saw some whales! Thanks for being real about the girls. My sons all 3 of them have made vacations hard at times.
I love watching your vacation videos, my kids are older now but we can all relate. You do a wonderful job, have fun and I can't wait to see more
Thank you for being so open, honest & for sharing your full experience.
Enjoy every moment. What a beautiful place to visit!
lol! don't you know it! vacay with kids is serious work! testament to you and your hubby. 💜
Omg so happy you added the honest side ! Love this and you guys even more now ❤️
I actually do document some of the hard times with my little guy (with photos and videos of him crying etc, and in the journal I keep about him) because I think it's important to remember the rough times as well as the beautiful ones.
What a wonderful place indeed! ☀️ We can’t wait to get back some time
When my brother and I were preschoolers, we had both morning and afternoon naps which morphed into quiet time as we got a little older.
Thank you for sharing that...young families need to know the realities of life! : )
Thks for sharing ,I promise traveling with kids gets easier when they are a little older ,God bless
Love seeing these videos of your vacation! Thank you!
I always wanted to visit there so thanks for filming all the beautiful homes and gardens
I love the way you keep it real! Have fun!!
Thank you for being so genuine and real 💕
