Growing up in South Dallas Ray Charles is a legend. I was born in 82 and lived in East Dallas Projects during those rough times in Dallas. Me and mom’s always talk about those 80’s and early 90’s when the Posses was terrorizing Dallas. She had Jamaican podnas and homies from Dallas that was heavy in the dope game. She lost friends from both sides. I can remember being a little kid hanging out at the car wash right by the projects with mom’s and her friends all night when shootings and murders would happen. But as a kid it was like the norm because we never knew the true danger that surrounded us 💯

My mother, father& I moved to Dallas in 1979... I was 3 yrs old, we lived in South Dallas on South Blvd.&Colonial! Shortly after my parents divorced& we moved to Brairgate Apts in 1984 right as the cracc era was beginning... I had the honor/pleasure of meeting Ray Charles, in '92/'93 he had a baby by my Classmates auntie therefore he called Ray Charles his uncle! We would skip our 7th period class& go hang out @ the Stereo Shop that Ray Charles had in Singing Hills on Redbird Lane& Houston School Rd. It almost looked like a scene from Snowfall... Dudes had truccs, Cadillacs etc. On Daytons& Ray Charles would be sittin in the office chillin in a windbreaker jogging suit wearing a pair of gold MC Hammer Cazal glasses.

@chrisbryant6886 yup that was it& those were sum uv the Player's that were⬆️ there daily... not to mention periodical guest appearances by major factors such as Marcus Hodge during the time he had Brairgate Apts on locc, but the most memorable& life changing encounter is when I walked into the garage where they installed music! I saw a dude squatting in the trunk of a burnt orange Cadillac Coupe Deville wit white guts, gold Daytons& a European front... they called em' "Kevin Ray" later better known as Katt these day's. I was star strucced, because his car resembled Sum shit out of a music video or magazine... not to mention he high end audio equipment that you only saw in Crutchfield magazine/catalog, not the cheap shit you would find @ the Bazaar!#Memories

@chrisbryant6886 yup that's it... I remember the brother Tim, he was drivin a charcoal grey shortbed Chevy trucc wit ground f/x on chrome& gold Daytons! I also cross paths with a few other major factors during the time I spent hanging out⬆️ there... such Marcus Hodge with the long hair& mouth full of gold when he had Brairgate Apts on locc/sowed⬆️, but the most memorable/life interaction I had ⬆️ there was when I walked out in the garage while this short guy was crouched ⬇️ in the trunk of a burnt orange Cadillac Coupe Deville wit white interior on center gold Daytons. I was blown away... the car resembled sumthin out of a music video or lowrider magazine& he had all of the top of the line car audio equipment in his Cadillac, not the cheap the cheap stuff they were selling @ the Bazaar/flea market! The person I'm referring to is "Kevin Ray" now known as O.G Katt... I remember askin him will he hook ⬆️ my system in my car& he calmly said yeah while nodding his head.#Memories

Dallas Shower Posse Jamaican Dude R.i.p killed at Top Cat seafood, Freddy Kruger , Aprentice , Baby Shan , Shawnsee Ray , just a few of them I remember. They came to Dallas on some MadMan off of Shottas shit no lie but that was the atmosphere late 80’s. After they killed the 13 year old in the bath tub , that pretty much made all the gangsters in the city who used to like the Jamaicans turn on them . Every trap they had got robbed, Jamaicans were getting shot who wasn’t even part of the shower posse . Like I said though before the bath tub incident the Jamaicans had a lot of love . After that they were being beaten raggedy in jail . A lot of guys borrowed the whole Jamaican swag. Bacc then I thought they were all Jamaican but some of them weren’t even Jamaican. They were from the US Virgin Islands , West Indies, Barbados, ect. Their accent got them labeled as Jamaican .

In Brooklyn it was hot back then. I was a kid and had family in BedStuy around 87/88. The patks used to get sprayed up on the regular. It was so common that people wouldn't run if it wasn't in their direction. Everyone knew who was doing it. Tec 9 was the Tommy Gun of the 80's. Uzi's and Mac's were everywhere. If you knew who to talk to you could buy grenades from the corner store. It was GTA for real. People were dying in groups of 5 at a time. I'm glad I made it through those days.

Jamaicans sold dope out of a motel in east Dallas that was on the corner of Frank and Foreman back in the 1980s. There were 2 brothers that worked for them, then they started selling dope for themselves.
Both were found shot and their bodies set on fire. They owned a customized Chevy Blazer that was found with both doors open, engine still running. Rumor is that the Jamaicans kidnapped them and murdered them.
Around 1990 or 1991 some OG's from the hood got into a shoot out with the Jamaicans, and ran them out of the neighborhood. I had just moved there in 1991 when I was 18 so, I don't have all the details...

Dallas native here……I can definitely recall when the Jamaicans took over certain areas, to eliminate competition! The Woods apts (Kings Rd & Maple Ave) was one of the properties! My Aunt lived there for 2 years & it was a turf war every other week! The other place was North Dallas projects (Hall St & Washington Ave). We lived there in 1991 & it had just calmed down, but a few years back it was awful! The Jamaicans were living w/women & using their units for dope spots!
The other places were in Oak Cliff & South Dallas! One Jamaican king pin toe tagged a known Dallas dealer at the Village Oaks apts! The dealer was tortured and then burnt beyond recognition in 1997/1998!
