That's not correct. Patrie comes from the latin word Pater, which means father. And it can't be grammatically neutral either. I assume that you consider it neutral because you don't really have a mother-version of the word, like in Spanish, but it most definetily means father-land.

In Spain we have no national anthem lyrics but each autonomous region has its own anthem, like els segadors in Catalonia or Fogar de Breogán un Galicia. Don't know if this is the same in the rest of the world.

The translation is bad for La Marseillaise. It's "homeland" as the French word use is "Patrie". And in any case people in France use "Mère Patrie" so "Motherland" not "Fatherland"
In Spain we have no national anthem lyrics but each autonomous region has its own anthem, like els segadors in Catalonia or Fogar de Breogán un Galicia.
Don't know if this is the same in the rest of the world.
