    Q: The sound effect at 27:35 is extremely loud, why?
    🧙‍♂: My apologies! I must have forgotten to add a hyphon before the decibel, hence it's louder than full volume 😅make sure to decrease your volume at around 27:30 before it kicks in!
    Q: Can’t coffins be crafted for the Hearthfire Homesteads too?
    🧙‍♂️: Indeed they can be, I didn’t realise! “Coffins are a craftable piece of furniture for a mansion. They are automatically placed in the cellar. For the option to build a coffin, one needs to be a vampire.”
    Q: Can’t 3 spouses from the Dragonborn DLC occupy Severin Manor with you?
    🧙‍♂️: Indeed they can, my apologies. They are Morwen, Hilund and Halbarn Iron-Fur.

      You forgot to mention that if you're a vampire in the player built homes you can craft a coffin that hides in a wall room, because they reworked everything to accommodate fish tanks they reworked where the coffin sits. I like the concept of a hidden coffin

    • @SotiCoto
      @SotiCoto Год назад +14

      That is one of the reasons I dislike it. I hate the hassle of having to build it myself. The amount of hassle, nonsense and resource-gathering required just to get a liveable home makes them hugely impractical. Also any mods that change it generally require it be build a certain way first, and if you've built it any other way then it ruins the mod... so they're not only a pain to build in vanilla, but a huge pain to mod as well.
      Not only that but Lakeview Manor also sits far too close to a necromancer and a pack of wolves... and while the location is prettier than the other two Hearthfire homes, the constant enemies outside are just extra nuisances.

    • @whatwhatyep
      @whatwhatyep Год назад +30

    Best part about haljarchen hall is, unlike most of the other heartfell houses its not isolated, theres a farm within walking distance and whiterun is not far off, not to mention guards actually patrol this area making it feel far more integrated into a hold then just a cabin in the woods

    • @SotiCoto
      @SotiCoto Год назад +55

      Its central location tends to be why it is the only Hearthfire home I've ever bothered with. I still tend to hate the Hearthfire homes, but at least Heljarchen is in the least inconvenient position from a logistical standpoint. Lakeview is technically prettier... but Lakeview also has horrible enemy spawns and is way out of the way.

  • @treybrzezowski3259
    @treybrzezowski3259 Год назад +422

    A little tip for Goldenhills: Fill up one of the fields with Blisterwort. It's the best crop for profit, the other field and planters can be whatever you want! I usually have (Creepvine,Mora Tapinela, Scaly Pholiota) in one, and Steel-Blue Entoloma in the other. Then in the second field, I have a mix of Health and Magicka restoring ingredients. That way I have crops to generate gold, quickly level my Alchemy, and restore my 2 most used stats (I love being a Mage). Goldenhills is easily my second favorite Playerhome in AE.
    Edit: An alternate set of Crops for Goldenhills is 16 Mora Tapinella, 12 Canis Root, and 12 Imp Stool (Harvesting gives you 48 of each), and the last 4 plots are your choice (I usually go with either Blisterwort+Wheat for healing, or Steel Blue Entoloma+Nightshade for UNLIMITED POWAH!). The 3 Main Crops will give a decently pricey poison of Paralysis and Lingering Damage Health. And unless your enemy is immune to poison, hitting them with this will cause them to fall over for X seconds (highest I've gotten with my skills is 24 seconds!)
    Myrwatch is the best playerhome, fight me. All you need is a fire spell to open the door, and if you are someone who adamantly despises learning and using spells, there are 2 scrolls of Fireball in Bleakfalls Barrow!

    When they're used together, Honeyside and Shadowfoot Sanctum are really great homes for just about any build. With Honeyside, you have a home that your wife and children can live & grow up in... but with Shadowfoot Sanctum, you basically have yourself a bachelor's pad that's entirely yours to decorate with all of your trophies.
    It's for those exact reasons why I will almost always use those two homes specifically; that said, almost every home has a use for me in some way, WW.
    Take the homes you can build with Hearthfire, right? Instead of building them up into huge mansions that hardly anybody will live in, I like to build the small homes and assign certain followers as stewards for those homes... but instead of being stewards, I pretend that I gifted those homes to those followers for their actions in aiding me in my adventures. In a way, this satisfies two things for me - a home that I won't live in will be used and it feels in-character when I roleplay, if the latter makes sense to you.
    The same logic somewhat applies with the stewards in the non-Hearthfire homes too. I won't live in them any time soon, so I like to think that my character(s) gifts them to the stewards, either out of good will or for their actions.
    *Edit:* When you brought up Goldenhills Plantation, I just wanted to say that I too really like the home as well... however, I don't like it because of the fact that I can live there, but because I can use it as a business venture!
    Much like how I assign followers to the Hearthfire homes and turn them into pretend homeowners, I plan to assign a follower to the plantation and have them be in charge of the plantation's daily operations, making money that'll go back into my pockets and into their pockets as payment for their hard work.
    The only reason I don't want to live there is the same reason why I don't want to live in most of the other homes on this list - location. If Goldenhills in particular were closer to Rorikstead, then maybe I'd consider actually living there. The same thing applies to some of the other homes, like Dead Man's Dread. If Bethesda had a little hindsight, they would've allowed the player to get the ship out of that cave and at least allow them to dock it in Solitude.

    • @theWelshWizard
      @theWelshWizard  Год назад +31

      That’s a good point about Honeyside and Shadowfoot Sanctum! Keep the family out of the stinky sewers and give them a nice cabin with a porch, and then Shadowfoot can be your own little den - I like it! 👌 Imagine it was the other way around, I don’t think they’d be too happy 💩
      That’s also a neat idea, awarding stewards with their own homes, I never thought to do that 🤔 might actually be a good thing not building great big homesteads too, as you’ll save a lot of gold and potentially some livestock 👀
      Yeah, Dead Man’s Dread had great promise and I was hoping the ship would receive an uplift following its quest, making more use out of those crew bedrooms.. but nah 😕 and like you said, the fact you can’t ride it also kinda sucks.

If Aela the HUNTRESS is complaining about wolves and bears and spiders, I cannot imagine her opinion of living in shadowfoot sanctum. "How do I like living here? Are you serious? We live in a sewer. I don't know why I ever married you."
    Second, it's interesting that your occupation as a wizard influences your decisions, because my typical occupation is far more dishonest, and I would put Honeyside in S tier. It is only 3000 septims more than Breezehome, making it very affordable, has a door leading to two different loadzones, and being located in Riften(IMO the best hub for a specific playstyle in the game), there isn't a whole lot not to love about it if you aren't a thief.
    Great video, Welsh. May I call you Welsh? Screw it I already did. Keep making great content!

      Haha my bad. In hindsight, maybe I should’ve clarified a bit more at the start of the vid how I was going to rank it, instead of just saying “In no particular order…”.
      With regards to the spouses feelings towards the Creation Club homes, I’m not sure if they have any specific dialogue about them, but that most certainly would be an accurate response about Shadowfoot Sanctum 🤢😅
      And tbh, there are so many great homes to rank and for the sake of not overfilling the S tier, I thought I’d introduce a tad more bias 🧙‍♂️ nevertheless, I hope I could give all the homes the attention they deserve, regardless of their position.
      Wizard or Welsh is fine 🧙‍♂️ thanks for the feedback 👍

    My favourite is Tundra Homestead, but the modded version which makes it an amazing home with everything you could possibly need, alongside a mod that adds a whole section to whiterun behind jorvaskar including merchants so you end up having a blacksmith a house down - amazing for feeling like you're in whiterun without the loading screens and the vibes of Lakeview manor

    I’m not even that far in yet but my personal rating for Lakeview Manor is S Tier! This is for both nostalgia and practical reasons. Practical being the many wings and custom looks you can have for it, plus it can be designed no matter your life or playstyle in the game. As for nostalgia, it was actually the home I built for my first ever family (that being my orcish husband Ghorbash, and our daughters Sofie and Lucia). It took a LONG time to build it, but it was amazing to move in after we’d been living in Breezehome for the longest time. Plus orcish spouses don’t complain about the location, instead loving it. And I once came home to hear my daughters teasing my husband about being a poor fisherman after he took them down to the nearby lake.
    Yeah, I’m a little biased because of all that, but what can I say? The moment I saw Ghorbash and my girls getting along, I married him, he became a second father to them, and I worked with him (and Lydia) to build the home to be a scenic family home that still let me organize and store my treasures.

  • @ianp8825
    @ianp8825 Год назад +4

    Best thing to do with Lakeview is to let the Giant reside there once it spawns in. It's only hostile if you go near it and while it is there all other specific homestead attacks cannot happen and it will turn on anything such as Dragons so can be used as an extra guard of sorts. If your housecarl, follower or spouse should aggro it you can quickly calm it with Ash Shell spell ( from Solstheim ) as this spell resets aggro on hit and will paralyze the Giant to boot.
    You may need to let it thaw though before leaving which is the only downside as this spell very rarely can make enemies invincible if you leave the cell they are in while they are still encased. You can also just save and then leave if waiting is too long in case the very rare glitch does occur but the last thing you want is for the Giant to become invincible lol. You can also heal the Giant if it has suffered damage and then Ash Shell it to stop the complaining if you like.
    You can use this method for the other two homesteads also. I once had a Bandit Chief follow my character into the inner cell of the homestead after spawning out of view, rush over and pick up an enchanted Daedric Greatsword which I had stored there and proceed to murder my spouse in a flash and hence the Giant strategy was devised to avoid this happening again.
    I used/viewed most of these houses and only a few are not considered worth it in my opinion. The dwemer one is too large and too far out. The boat one is just too much work to get to every time as kind of pointed out in this video. I also not fond of Hjerim because it locked behind the Civil War and the Civil War can break many missions in Solitude/Windhelm and Whiterun if done before them. It a risky house to acquire early basically if you want the full thing anyway.
    The other one is Goldenhills Plantation. Great for making money, terrible for living in. The kids may decide to not turn up and wander off somewhere as was the case when I tried to use it. Lucia seems to hang outside of the place even if you not adopted her which is odd and maybe why I had the problem when I did adopt her as she just bugged out. I managed to fix it by marrying and sending the spouse to another home but any attempts to send them and the kids back to the farm results in them all going missing and never showing up.
    Also it appears to be the buggiest house CC as the quest never even triggered on other characters after killing the ghost. You can still plant stuff mind. Also if you can marry the steward of Goldenhills you can just move them and collect the money from wherever you are living so no need to even go to the farm unless you want the ingredients. They must be made steward first before the ceremony of course.

    I've typically been using Hendraheim since getting the Anniversary Edition upgrade, but I'll probably mix it up and move into Shadowfoot Sanctum. Easily one of the best parts of the majority of the CC homes is that they include specific trophy displays in their armories for Dragon Priest masks, dragon claws, and specific weapons, items and whatnot from the base game and DLC. But the Sanctum will be the residence of my all-rounder, but mainly stealth, character. The vampire home will be for my eventual vampire character once I've figured out a proper build for them.

    • @theWelshWizard

    2:28 Here's a story for yall : I was watching this video while being at Goldenhills Plantation, preparing my enchantment skills to make powerful weaponry and armors. There is a slight problem, and by "slight", I meant "Elder dragon" scale problem. I was level 37, but in Legendary difficulty, and most of the experience I gained with that character came from leveling smithing, while making it legendary as well. Needless to say, I was in a bad spot. Or at least, would have it been, if not for Teldryn Sero and having reviewed my Conjuration, enchanting and Restoration schools. Assessing my options, I chose to enchant my legendary Stalhrim sword with Chaos damage as a last-ditch effort. Afterwards, I resorted to using a Flame Atronach as both a tank and artillery support. With Teldryn's and Lydia's support, we managed (after a lot of quicksaves and quickloads) to force the elder dragon to the ground. Meanwhile, an imperial escort was passing by and targeted the dragon. With even more cannon fodder to throw at the dragon, I landed the final blow and emerged victorious. Now that's a story to tell, if I needed to have one.

As you go higher in level, I find the Hearthfire homes to be the best because of the display aspects, as well as the fast travel to and from. The Tundra Homestead usually ends up being my home due to its proximity to the Honningbrew Meadery, and the fact that there is a radiant generation point just up the road towards the guard tower that gives you something to meet occasionally coming and going. I wish the smithing station was indoors (perhaps a secondary basement room) as opposed to being outside, but other than that I usually end up there. Well done! ☺

    (1) As you go downstairs if you open the cabinet on the right you can grab all the farming that your farmhands have done in your absence. Lots of crops, milk and food based on what you planted.
    (2) it has a churn hidden away in the kitchen where you can make as much butter as you have milk, and you get alot of milk from Goldenhills. Only way I have found to get in bulk and garlic bread at wt = 0.1 allows you to care around tons of cure disease at super low weight.

I'm a assassin in Skyrim, and I'm suprised that a Wizard could help me be the greatest assassin, you helped me find Umbra and Umbra was easy. I never knew a nord could help a khajiit, now as a khajiit I can sucessfully assassinate people with your help, I've spent hours into Skyrim and you helped out A LOT! again I'm glad a Wizard could help me (a khajiit) Also if you're still reading your next video should be "Hardest quests in Skyrim"

    Man my oldest vanilla Skyrim playthrough I built Lakeview and god stepping into that house the first time after finishing the full thing and furnishing it was such a great moment.

    Vlindrel Hall will always be my favorite house because of it’s large library and the high up view. Windstad Manor, Myrwatch, and Goldenhills are my other favorites.
    Fantastic video! Quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite Skyrim RUclipsrs. S Tier quality

    I usually only two that I'm guaranteed to use.
    The one in Whiterun, simply because it's the earliest and cheapest one to get and all kinds of merchents and crafting places are nearby
    The one in Falkreath, because that feels like a real home with all the bells and whistles.

    I could watch this video forever. It's so nice to listen to a wise wizard travel around Skyrim like a realtor trying to close a deal on one of many shabby houses of varying habitability. I'm not even planning on playing Skyrim anytime soon, I'M NOT IN THE MARKET! But man... does Bloodchill Cavern look nice...

    Whoever designed Myrwatch is an absolute genius. No matter what build I do I always have Myrwatch as my main home, or at least as my main base. It's the most wizardly atmospheric home with the perfect amount of storage and everything is perfectly condensed without feeling claustrophobic. It's the absolute best home

    Interesting to see how each rank these houses differently.
    Personally I'd put Lakeview Manor on first for its location and more adaptations for children, and Goldenhills second for its amazing garden and money making ability, but its small farm.

    I remember the first time I felt disappointment in Skyrim was buying the manor in the capital and realizing it was completely useless despite the cost. I saved up for it, thinking it must be a good home for end game, and finding myself utterly baffled at the lack of amenities. I spent a fortune furnishing it only to find that nothing of actual value was added. Those damn nobles scammed me!

    I feel like each home is more dependant on the build of your character. If your character wants to use bows as a primary weapon, then Lakeview near Falkrealth is ideal. If you wanna be a thief, Shadowfoot Sanctum from the Anniversary Upgrade or Honeyside make a good home cause they're both very close to the Thieves Guild in Riften. Myrwatch is very ideal for any sort of Mage build, while Windstad near Mortal could be a good home for people who like using the Alchemy skill line.

    Helijarchen hall my beloved. The view and vibe is just too perfect. Even the creation club armories arent enough to replace it for me. Its my skyrim home, every playthrough.

    Lakeview Manor near Falkreath is my personal favorite, it just has such beautiful surroundings and its hard to beat a house you can literally design yourself.
