    Thanks for this! I was wondering why my receiver was only processing 2ch when I had Linear PCM selected. I guess it's just the old hardware. I've got a new receiver on the way and will try PCM again, but for now, forcing Dolby is working to force surround in 5.1 on my older receiver.

    Actually for Atmos you don't need to toggle bitstream in the regular audio settings. The bluray player has its own audio settings that you can set to bitstream. Your game audio will stay in Linear PCM.

  • @electric_boogaloo496
    @electric_boogaloo496 3 года назад +7

    The blu ray player has its own setting for sound, pcm or bitstream. However, streaming apps on the PS5 share the audio settings with games.

    Good video.
    Currently waiting for Sony to fix the UAC1 driver, add UAC2, and add support for Bluetooth audio devices perhaps even with LDAC support, as well as allowing Tempest 3D audio to output through not only usb, but HDMI and Bluetooth as well.
    Boggles my mind that even if they only have headphones somewhat nailed down with 3D audio that you are limited to liscensed headsets or the audio jack on the Dualsense....
    and maybe uac1 devices? but those seem to be bugged with a 15dB drop vs other signal outputs.... most would have UAC2 devices though, but those arent even supported what so ever.
    What if I dont want, and even cant run my headphones off the dualsense and dont want a hecking gaming headset?
    Fixing support for Bluetooth 5 (with LDAC) and fixing the usb dac support along with allowing all of them + HDMI output to carry the 2 channel 3D audio for headphones would solve most issues headphone people like me got with it. and more options and like a status screen maybe to see what sort of signal/settings and where audio is outputed to would be neat, like they have in the video section.
    I also think the settings menu is a slight mess and need some work.
    Video transfer rate sounds like some made up bullshit to me and my understanding is that is really is Chroma subsampling/color compression setting.
    auto/ -1 / -2 doesnt mean anything to probably anyone.
    Chroma subsampling, yeah well thats been a thing since forever!
    yuv 4:4:4 , 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 actually does mean something. while -1 and -2 is what exactly? It pretty damn silly.
    and they tell you yuv setting in the like overview screen anyway sooo.... Sony... why? why?

    Looks like it really depends on discs and Home theater also, for example:
    Matrix Titans of Cult Blu Ray Ultra HD disc: Dolby Digital on cover -> works with dolby/dts on sound menu ->linear PCM/bitrate
    Wolf of Wall Street Limited Ed. Ultra HD disc: Dolby Digital / DTS on cover -> doesn't work in any way, nor with dolby/dts selected or PCM or Bitrate.
    So my tip to get the best Audio possible is to try different combination as possibile with every movie you have, especially if you have a old home thatre like me connected with Audio Port. (Kenwood KRF-V4080D)

      I personally set it to 7.1. Your receiver should mix the back 2 channels into your left and right surround speakers while also providing a bit more surround info for the Nueral upmixing to work its magic. I don’t have any hard facts on this and it’s solely based on my own two ears, so try it out and let me know if you hear a difference.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  3 года назад +1

      When you say better, what exactly do you mean? A common thing that happens is that bitstream may be a bit louder than LPCM, and we tend to perceive louder as better. If that’s the case, I’d turn the volume up on the receiver to match LPCM to that of bitstream. It’s also possible that your receiver is applying some type of signal processing to the bitstream signal that it isn’t to the LPCM one, which could be causing the “better” effect as well.

      Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, the PS5 will not pass HDR10+ or Dolby Vision at all, meaning even if you’re AV receiver or TV support it still won’t display either of those formats and default to the standard HDR10. For that you’ll need a UHD player that supports those formats.

    Not Automatic for RGB. You need to set it to Limited and Low black level (If you don't have Auto black level.
    If you Auto black level then you can set both to Automatic. But this is if your using your TV for both movies and gaming. If you are using specifically for gaming Limited on PS5 Low on TV

    Linear pcm is decoded by the ps5. Bitstream is good if you're receiver decodes better than the ps5. I use a dac and headphones so I use Pcm. But one isn't better than the other.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  3 года назад +1

      For games, both the Dolby Digital and DTS variants that the PS5 encodes to are compressed lossy audio formats (with max bitrates of 640kbps for Dolby Digital and 1.5Mbps for DTS), so if set to bitstream, the console will be adding compression to an already compressed source (game audio files). With PCM, there is no additional compression. So technically, one is better than the other.
      The bitstream setting should only be use with games if you have surround sound headphones like Astros or Turtle Beach or if the device or receiver you’re using doesn’t support multichannel PCM, otherwise PCM will ensure you’re getting the best audio you can out fo your games. For movies, Bitstream is the correct setting.

    I have a Bose Lifestyle system. I have a PS5 and I just got a XR77A80J. It keeps telling me my tv does not support HDR and 120hz, it definitely does. What am I doing wrong?

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  3 года назад

      Are you plugging the PS5's HDMI output into the Bose Lifestyle system, then out from the Bose system to the TV? If so, then that's likely the issue as the Bose needs to support HDR and 120Hz as well.

    This projector gets the job done pretty well. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.

      Home cinema. No contest. Unless you are in a situation where you can’t make a lot of noise or only play competitively. Even then, a home cinema will be much more immersive in my opinion. You can’t “feel” really low bass with headphones.

    7.1 avr for ps5 rocks,blow the "3d" mode for headphones out of the water. Have large towers 7.1 setup myself tighly around the sofa, very good drectionality and cinema power. When you go real surround you cant play without anymore,it comes natural when you get used to it. The 3d headphone mode were letdown after so much hype. Ofc 2.0 stereo wont top real 7.1 channels

    The adjust position option is dumb for not including Atmos or Height speaker placement.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  3 года назад

      I think the adjust position option only has an effect on the LPCM output, so that adjustment would not be required as LPCM doesn’t have support for height channels at all. It has no effect when the PS5 is set to bitstream.
      I just wish the PS5 supported Dolby Atmos in games. It’s a bummer that it doesn’t.

      @@HomeTheaterGamer I’m assuming Sony doesn’t want to pay Dolby for using the technology but it still sucks that’s no configuration at least for it. I can’t choose 5.1 when I still two other speakers as my heights. And 7.1 accounts for them being around you.
