I actually find it interesting that every time he says "you" in the song, it's translated as "omae" in Japanese. Which is pretty much the most casual of casual ways to refer to someone. You can talk casually this way to really close friends, and it's playful, but to anyone else-especially a stranger, it's actually REALLY demeaning. A subtle, but effective touch in this translation. It really gets the point across that Dr. Facilier may seem genuine, but when it gets right down to it he really doesn't have respect for anyone but himself. Note that he also refers to himself as "watashi" the most respectable and dignified way of saying "I" or identifying yourself. Which drives this point home even further. Excellent translation, and EXCELLENT casting. You rock, Disney Japan!
@Itscharanight I though Yokai where more like Spiritual creatures than demons. Entities that always had been ethereal (unlike the Yurei/Ghosts, wich were human and animals that died). When i called them "Yokai demons" was because most Yokai are harmless, but some can be wicked and bloodthirsty, just like the classic conception of a demon in Cristian and Jew culture, so i called that to point out Japanese Fasciler had control over specifically EVIL Yokai, not just mischevious ones. And because i wasn't expecting to find people who would understand the common translation of the "Yokai" term.
Wow he sounds very, very slimy in the japanese version but still very charismatic ;) and then more towards the end he sound very threatning and evil~ not a bad voice indeed~
The translation to Japanese left out the wordplay concerning replacing the word "money" with "green" so as to tie into how that guy was suckered into the deal.
But it is translated for a Japanese audience. It's just one of those cultural barriers that will always be there regardless how good a translator is. English dubbing anime have the exact same problem.
SoyKing Green money isn't used in many European countries either but we get the reference and the double-meaning of this song was kept in the dubs here. Japanese ain't stupid.
English Version: Catchy, Enchanting, and Mystical Japanese Version: Creepy and ominous I like them both. English for the music and catchy beat. Japanese for the 'feeling for the setting'. Both great in their own right. If only they could combine. I feel the Japanese version could have gotten the 'soul' for the music better but aced in the setting while the English version caught the 'mystical' feeling perfectly while the Japanese got the 'creepy and ominous feeling'.
0:00 I'm gonna pick your nose little man, pew pew spirit gun, imagination~,cast a fire spell...gawk some more I got an automatic door (voice in background: he got an automatic door~) 😂😂😂 ring a bell anyone?
I did a study on that and it really depends on the translator in question (Arabian Nights from Aladdin is horrendous) but yeah I agree. I feel like they could have gone with "みどり" and the visuals would have carried the meaning well enough.
Oh yeah, THAT part's great. Fits the character perfectly (and the location, but that's another story). Can't help but crack up every time he says "カードだ". It just sounds so goofy in Japanese.
oh my gosh I love this! I usually hark about voice acting not matching charracters (like an old man sounding like a guy in his youth D: bad dubs) *0* but this is I love
Aw, one part was changed, because the Japanese don't really say things like we do... When he told the prince "I see green in your future" with the final card, it was actually translated into Japanese here so that he said 'money' instead of 'green'. 'Green' is slang that they don't use/know in Japan. So it's too bad that the subtle foreshadowing that was in that English lyric right there couldn't be fit in... Good translation otherwise, and great choice of voice actor!
I know the feeling XD But yeah, normally I'm fine with Japanese English (unless they're doing it just to sound hip) But some things, like this, just make me giggle. I think it's the way he modulates his voice. Reminds of someone pretending to be a ghost going "ooOOoOoo"
I will be not another weebo who comment "the japanese version is better because is in japanese :P" I'm not from US. So here is my opinion, even if I can speak other languages I still preffered his voice in English, sound more afro-american to me, here he sounds like a cliché villain voice. I also liked to hear this in french for his last name "Facillier" But nop I choose the English version better.
I also prefer the English version, but he doesn't sound really cliche to me. His voice is really deep, which helps the charismatic and villainous sides to his character. However, there's no beating Keith David, his voice is just perfect for this role.
@mewnadja The only word i get is Nakamia or what ever the One Piece call them self for Family. I learn the very primal basics Like hi and goodbye in few languishes. That's really it the rest I just pick up from where ever.
Lol it's kind of weird, when I watched this for a first time I had no idea what he said, but now that I've studied japanese I can understand (Though not perfectly :d)
The voice actor is eating up the role! XD
yes.. isn't it great!? 😃
And Keith David didn't?
the latin troller As do most actors... it's called "acting"...
the latin troller
Languages vary to outsiders, unless you speak both those language a blanket statement like that is uncalled for.
go 100% or go home case ^^
Wow, the Japanese version is actually pretty damn awesome
Ravyn Karasu Thank you
imagine the sub
Still prefer the original though it’s more due to the fact that I’m a Keith David fanboy
Yup! Just as good as the original too.
The Japanese VA sounds JUST LIKE KEITH DAVID! Only difference is the language
I LOVE BOTH OF THEM.

Still different

We know already it no need to explain something I know and maybe the others know.
OMAE WA MO KAERU DA
cardo-da
Omae wa mou shinderiu
@Miss Carky Pore Well this is a really interesting fact for someone who doesn't know Japanese at all and just came to this video to hear the voice.
French/American culture meets 20's jazz meets Japan...Trippy as shit!
So... now he's an evil omyoji priest with unholy deals with Yokai demons?
Blaze Mathew Undead Knight yes indeed he is
It seems so!
"Yokai demons"
Wow. Kill me
@Itscharanight I though Yokai where more like Spiritual creatures than demons. Entities that always had been ethereal (unlike the Yurei/Ghosts, wich were human and animals that died). Wow he sounds very, very slimy in the japanese version but still very charismatic ;) and then more towards the end he sound very threatning and evil~ not a bad voice indeed~
As soon as he started talking about those cards, I thought for a moment that I was watching subbed Yu-gi-oh episodes, haha!

Turkish and Japanese versions are amazing!! 🤍🖤
ファシリエ様の骨張った細長い手がすごい好きなんだけど、私だけかな
That was the most evil sounding "YOSH" I ever heard
The translation to Japanese left out the wordplay concerning replacing the word "money" with "green" so as to tie into how that guy was suckered into the deal.
The wordplay only works due to the cultural relevance because American banknotes are green but that can't be said the same for Japan.
True. But its not set in Japan
Not unlike America
Omg i cant believe that i didnt look this up erlier 😍 its amazing❤️
あれがと 日本❤️😍
Damn Shadowmans VA went in, he really enjoyed it
That laugh at the end was 100% spot on
...why am I now sexually attracted to Japanese Keith Richards' voice?
中毒性ある
English Version: Catchy, Enchanting, and Mystical
Japanese Version: Creepy and ominous
I like them both.
Why is everything need to be so cool in japanese?!?!
It’s great in original English too. Also because the original VA is BLACK. And Facilier is BLACK.
Japanese Facilier is one of my favourite anime villains! :3
"Kaado da, kaado da..." lovin' it! x) Japanese makes anything sound just a bit more epic. :P
これ大好きだ!!
1:48 Is it me or is something missing?
Though i love the japanese version.
This is the cd version, not movie version
They picked a really great voice for Facilier! Sounds just like the English version :O didn't think it was possible
It definitely has more of a "scare factor" than the English version!
eh
Shawn McDaniel
In your opinion. Not a fact.
In mine both have scare factors.
And both are EQUALLY AMAZING.
魂は あるんだろう、ローレンス。(笑)

0:00 I'm gonna pick your nose little man, pew pew spirit gun, imagination~,cast a fire spell...gawk some more I got an automatic door (voice in background: he got an automatic door~) 😂😂😂 ring a bell anyone?
This is awesome, but I think I prefer the English version (I really like his voice)
Me too. Though I love BOTH.
same
怖かっこいいって感じ
I did a study on that and it really depends on the translator in question (Arabian Nights from Aladdin is horrendous) but yeah I agree. I feel like they could have gone with "みどり" and the visuals would have carried the meaning well enough.
It's a shame most of the original double-meanings are lost when translating into japanese...
True..
Top 10 anime openings

I'm waiting for youtube to recommend this to you in a few years later
3:23 IT WONT BE WORTH A DAMN! XD
I still love Keith David but this is really good too!!
Japanese makes everything better
That voice hot damn
声がセクシー過ぎる
This adds a layer of creepy. 😨
Oh yeah, THAT part's great. Fits the character perfectly (and the location, but that's another story). Can't help but crack up every time he says "カードだ". It just sounds so goofy in Japanese.
Damn this sounds cool
Point taken. So long as they got the COLOR across to the audience. That's the important thing here.
Blasians? Yep, they exist! I'm a proud Blasian! XD
Same here xD
Watching this makes me think of an evil Brook from One Piece. He's never been evil but still it would be so neat!
Awsome
He could sing this during the boss fight! XD
just as cool as Keith David
oh my gosh I love this! I usually hark about voice acting not matching charracters (like an old man sounding like a guy in his youth D: bad dubs) *0* but this is I love
Very nice. I love Sailor Moon!
YO FACILIER-SAN REALLY OUT HERE MAKIN BOPS

He sounds a lot like Keith David. Well done in casting.
I never knew this video existed!
Japanese people have these voicwes that when they voice bad guys you can't imagine anyone else as them. Its the same in anime, in my opinion
I know the feeling XD But yeah, normally I'm fine with Japanese English (unless they're doing it just to sound hip) But some things, like this, just make me giggle. I think it's the way he modulates his voice. Reminds of someone pretending to be a ghost going "ooOOoOoo"

modern how? based on the type of vehicles present in the film it probably takes place in the 1920's. So that's not modern at all
One of my friends is going to be singing this for the talent show at our votech today :D
i love that this movie takes place in Louisiana, i live there :D
This isn't as good as the original, but he does pretty well considering how the original had this flair to it that not many people can match.
does this make this an anime
1700おめ
With the right animator, PaTF could become an anime.
The dancing at the end reminds me of Lumiere in Be Our Guest

Christ Disney can be scary in any language!
@NightOfTheComet84 xD Makes me think of Jack Atlas from Yugioh 5ds singing this song, his voice is so similar to Facilier's!
You know, I have come to the thought that Disney animations are about the closest america will ever have to anime.
caado wa caAADO WA CAAAADO WAAA

He sounds 1000x creepier in this version...as do the creepy voices.
Ohh yeah, just fucking epic.
I love Dr. Fallicer, or however it's spelt.
