Was the USMNT summer really a disaster? Maybe not...

  • The USMNT just had a disastrous summer, getting grouped in the 2024 Copa America and having a very mediocre Olympics.
    Was all of this truly a disaster or maybe Gregg Berhalter getting fired made it all worth it?

    Weston - Fiorentina.
    Lower level club in the same league, should be easy to get playing time, few Juve guys are there right now like Moise Kean so there’s some familiarity
    Gio - Werder Bremen
    Finished 9th last year. They need a 10 that will actually not be a headcase like Naby Keita has been for them. 2 good attackers in Ducksh and Njinmah to link up with.

    Gio played 72 minutes for Dortmund yesterday in their friendly. He was engaged. Firing off instructions in the pre-game huddle. It appeared he was playing the 10 and running off the ball right down the middle. At times, he was next to the last defender - that's how high up he was. Sometimes, he was not on the same wave-length with his teammates. Possibly this was due to some of these players being new teammates/or this was his first pre-season game. Another thing he was good at was jamming the play. For example, he didn't gain possession, but he made sure the opponent didn't gain possession as well (i.e. via a slide tackle). Great start to things. Let's see if his role continues with this new coach. It's disappointing seeing how GGG played Gio during Copa vs how Dortmund was playing Gio in this friendly. Basically, GGG muzzled Gio during Copa. In this friendly, Gio was unleashed.

    Downs go to McKinney, Matt Turner, and Gio Reyna. All three did not live up to expectations, with Turner and McKinney seeming to regress in the process. Matt Turner is going to have to find a place to be the #1 keeper, even if it’s the Championship, League One, or even in Scotland or elsewhere outside the “Big 5” leagues. McKinney needs to realize sometimes you take a step back, playing someplace with less prestige that Juve, to make two-three steps forward as a full time starter.

      1) These guys can score.. they just can’t score in Greggy’s elementary system of play. We need a good coach for this to change.
      2) We’re really screwed with GK.. they all suck right now.
      3) Ream should be out now and Richards should be taking over but he has been consistently average for us. Playing out of the back doesn’t help, which is what Greggy always did. We definitely need someone to step up here or we’re screwed for the World Cup.

    Weston Mckennie stock is very concerning at this point and could be going lower depending on his club situation. He's currently not in Motta's plan, and both Juventus and Mckennie agreed to part way, but Juventus is not letting Mckennie go until some potential teams are willing pay $25 Million.

    • @RickyRicardo84
      @RickyRicardo84 Месяц назад +1

      McKennie needs a wake up call.. he shouldn’t be starting for us until he gets his shit straight. He needs a new start at a mid table club somewhere, but him showing up completely out of shape for copa America and playing like shit and never getting benched doesn’t help him.

    2 of the disappointments WILL be better (and motivated) with a new USMNT manager. If you get a real manager who demands any type of respect along with a little discipline, McKennie shows up in better shape (or gets sent home) and Richards comes in (as well as everyone else) with more fire in his belly. The entire squad seemed to treat camps under GGG as min-vacations w/ their buddies. We can't have that if we want to punch above the CONCACAF minnows.
