Monopoly is one of my favorite NES titles - if I had a top 25 list, this would be on it. It's one of those games that gets pretty much everything right.
Now I know why you prefer the NES version over the SNES version: THE LIGHTNING SPEED OF THE BOARD PROCESS! This puts the otherwise serviceable processor of the Super Nintendo to shame! Barring some of the bugs in the CPU's value determinants (as the Displaced Gamers channel discusses in his Behind the Code series), this adaptation goes quicker than the board version. If a hacker recreated an interface that duplicates popular house rules (e.g. bank/state fees going to whoever lands on Free Parking), then it would supplant every video game adaptation of Monopoly hands down. As is, it holds out. Sort of justifies my selling of CRT TVs to enthusiast gamers.
This is the definitive version of the game. The Genesis and SNES versions are GOOD, but the NES version is the only one that is GREAT. I think one of the most overlooked reasons why is actually the pacing. Every other version gets so caught up in animation and fluff that 1 persons turn can wind up taking 30 seconds to a minute. It just makes the entire game feel like a chore rather than fun.
Yes, this is so accurate to the original board game and the animations and sounds just make it better. When I can't sleep and wake up during the night I remain in bed and play this on the v90 with one hand!
For years, I could not tell the jailer voice was saying "Don't be coming back, now!" because of how bit crushed and distorted it is. When I was a kid I thought he said, "Don't beat your laybacks now." 😅
Had this back in the day. A lot of hours were spent playing this version of the game. I also spent a ton of time playing the 1995 version on PC from Westwood Studios.
Oh, man, I remember my Mom and cousins playing this game all those years ago when I was still a kid, man! Good memories, but the bankruptcy screen scared me back then, too. Good video, man, keep up the good work!
I remember as a kid singing 🎶Down on your LUUUCK🎶 to the tune that played when the cash register came to eat your money. Still can’t hear it any different 😂
So to recap...on your *very first roll* in the second game, you bought one property, traded cash for the other two to score a monopoly, and loaded up hotels on all three. Then made all that money back, and then some, when the two players after you hit the minefield. Talk about being a savvy businessman!
Wayyy to much fun playing this, the game was quick and followed the rules exactly as intended. My only complaint is the CPU could be easily tricked, but this game was a lot of fun to play with friends.
I remember other kids having this version of the game when I was a kid. Watching it now, there's just this charm to it. Compared to the SNES and Genesis versions, this seems just a little more exciting. The other ones look wonderful and they're made by the same company, but this one is a better presentation. Maybe it's the music. I have the Game Boy version. It's essentially the same as the NES, just with a little less bells and whistles.
I had the SNES version of this game. The SNES version had an improvement on graphics and sounds, but the NES version had more music queues. In fact, the NES version was actually the better version. It kept you from being bored. With that said, there's a couple times when I've played that I ended up owning every property on the board before the game ended. I never knew that was possible until I actually did it. Regardless of the version of the game, it's fun owning the computer players and seeing them drop one by one.
@@NintendoComplete I tried a similar strategy while playing Monopoly Plus and I lost after getting that Chance Card with the Home Repair thing. The CPU also must've min-maxed his luck stat or something because he was getting all of the best rolls
15:50 , While researching the mandela effect, I noticed you proved that the monopoly guy indeed wears glasses! The Illuminati forget to correct the NES version of this game 😂
If I were to do a ranking of console ports for Monopoly, this would be #1 while the GBA version would be dead last for how boring and tedious it can get, ESPECIALLY with trading
While I am an NES fanatic and that this is an excellent version of _Monopoly,_ I have to go with the Switch version, simply because it includes the "Snake Eyes" house rule. If the NES one had the "Snake Eyes" option, it would just about be the best version of _Monopoly_ ever made in my opinion.
I used to play this everyday in 6th grade (1992). Last night was the first time i found out when i tired to buy hotels at the same time as the computer their was an auction for hotels show up. 😂
I’ve played this game on most systems and it’s crazy weather it’s on the screen or on the board I played it a lot with my grandparents what I don’t get is we see different versions of the game almost everywhere we look but they never show up on the systems as DLC I really want to see a cheers version and a dinosaurs one.
One of my favorite games is Fortune Street, a game similar to this, but with stocks. Glad to see an NES version of Monopoly. Side note: I would love for Fortune Street on the Switch, with DQ, FF, and Mario characters.
why does it still the best monopoly game ever made ? i don't know aswell, but this still endeed the best ever done. (maybe because you can throw ALOT of AI on it) ^^
While the graphics are impressive BUT i do wonder ,WHY turn it into a video game??? This should only belong to be a card board game to be played with families, didn’t and couldn’t they do of thinking to come up with something better? It feels more like an aftertout🙁

Right on the money. I put a lot of hours into this as a kid. Even to this day, I know to beware of Maude.

Loved the music and sound jingles this game had. I always remembered that “Don’t be coming back now!” voice over when getting out of jail.
"Don't be coming back now" whipes his shirt, takes some steps. The music was rad.

Thankfully the snes version is easier to hear
“Don’t be coming back, now.”
(French)
“Et ne revenez pas.”
Had this back in the day. A lot of hours were spent playing this version of the game. I also spent a ton of time playing the 1995 version on PC from Westwood Studios.
That one was great too with all the little videos
Absolutely the best version of this game hands down
I'm partial to the Genesis game myself.
@@PaladinDusty ive never seen that one. Did t even know they had one.
Agreed!
SNES version was really good
I prefer the PS1 GameCube and Gameboy Color is game

The NES Version is a masterpiece. Did you remake the Game Boy one? If you do you should play the JPN version because is superior than the US/EU one

I like the Genesis version. They have different backgrounds as you go down the board depending on what you will land on.

Slight oversight:
You can’t trade get out of jail free cards
As a child I was scared of that hand.
I like how the dice looks like
Idk why, but getting arrested in this game always made me laugh. Just what is monopoly man doing?
Up to your imagination I guess
This is what happens when you don't pay your taxes and your rent.
Apparently there was a scrapped community chest card:
"You did a (idk what goes here) elephant imitation in front of children. GO TO JAIL"
I realized I played the NES version, not the SNES version.
The NES music was memorable.
MONOPOLY BROAD GAME IS VERY GOOD AND AWESOME TOO MY FRIEND

There already exists one, but I think it’s Japan only, like the rest of the series.
Or was that on PS4?
Only in Japan on PS4, IIRC. We only have the Wii version, and the mobile one that is just human characters.
