The story to Redline is actually brilliant. It has NOTHING to do with the race, the real story is how the Princess violates Robo-Worlds sovereignty via the race in order to expose how they have been breaking their treaty and conducting illegal experiments to create sanctioned weapons. If you put together some of the the "filler" scenes that the side characters do, you can see how this is formulated throughout the whole movie. Even the romance, while a bit cheesy, is handled in a way where you can see it's not some spontaneous plot point, but is one that blossomed over time, bordering child-hood friends (which as we all know is a GOATed tag). The writing may not be perfect, but it certainly doesn't hold Redline back from being one of the greatest stand alone anime movies of all time.

    • @smileywarhead5178
      @smileywarhead5178 Год назад +9

@jax napper her magic fits what futurists call "Clarktech"
When technology is so advanced, it's indistinguishable from magic. She's from another dimension, so it's not like the galaxy in which roboworld resides can peek into how her magic or tech actually works, so naturally they would just call it magic.
Roboworld is what happens when you're losing the arms race on a galaxy wide scale, and still trying to science your way yo the top.
The Princess might be exploiting the situation. Especially if magic is commonplace in her world, and there is little regard for primitive "pre-clarktech" dimensions

I hate, and I mean HATE anime as a general rule. I came aware of Redline in October 2019 due to a dumb gif someone posted of the racers in the yellowline race looking at each other. This was in my sim racing community.
The gif was fluid beyond what I was used to for anime, and the shading had the dark shadows that was normal for Darkhorse comics, so I took a look. I found out that a giant amount of handcrafted animation went into it compared to most anime, so I gave it a watch.
It was 100% EVERYTHING I hated in anime; a plot that had so much complexity that it felt like the story writers were a bunch of autists given a ball of cocaine mixed with Adderall, after drinking an entire handle of your choice of hard liquor. It kept getting dumber, more unhinged, weirder and psychotic to where less and less made sense unless it was a story made up by a high as fuck drug addict.
      IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!!
JT and cherry girl's final cross of the finish line didn't matter, the whole McGuffin with the amulet thing in the pot stove didn't matter, or the weird war/battle going on between that princess and the robo-guys. It was a work of visual 2d art in motion, a final testament of what hand drawn anime can attempt to achieve. That made it great alone.

Redline might have almost single-handedly bankrupted Madhouse. But I think it was worth it for the world of animation. One of the most insanely animated feature-length films to date. Imagine if they did the usual cutting corners and left some of the scenes sub-par, it wouldn't be the mind-blowing art piece from start to finish that it is right now. Sad that it never went mainstream but they should be proud of this film for what it is.
And at least the studio isn't dead. They're still animating. I hope they can get back up to the top of the line.

2:37 Whoa, whoa, weren't these two meant to represent the sexualized side of racing? Hot girls modeling on top of cars? These two kind of roll it all into one: models, idols, celebrities, influencers, and (revealed later) actors. Why actors? Because the ditzy stuff they do is revealed to be an act to maintain the persona which makes them money. If you look closer throughout the movie, you'll notice they are actually knowledgeable in physical and magical combat. That's right, they can use magic, to cause harm. This duality always made them very interesting to me.

I got immense adrenaline rush from the very first time i watched this movie a year after its release. RUclipsr MOISTCRITICALS also pointed out that it is his fsvorite anime movie of all time. It was such a shame that it flopped because one can only imagine what more adventures we could have gotten (but than again it did take several years to make). It reminds me of the Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Titan A.E and Iron Giant situation all over again. Also reminds me of LAIKA studios current situation. They drop fantastic movies but nobody sadly wants to see them.

@@connergalles7106 Still making anime, but not at same quality due to massive internal staff exodus. Even one of the founder, Masao Maruyama left and formed MAPPA (its literally his name MAPPA - Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association). He also left MAPPA and formed another studio called M2. Madhouse is only shell of its former legendary self with only a handful of good shows over the past few years.

Anime is the last medium that needs any adaptation into live action, Anime is good BECAUSE its animated.

The first time I watched this was on LSD. It's still the most memorable experience of my life.

If you want more reason to watch the movie, the OST are banger after banger made by James Shimoji, the one who made some OST for Lupin The IIIRD and more noteworthy, the freaken Pepsi Man music.

I remember when I cousin showed me this film. And now that I think about it. It really didn't make any sense or have a cohesive story. But I still freaking loved it. So much life and soul put into one movie that you just don't give a crap if there's a story or not. I'm definitely watching this again sometime.
