      It's less controlling them via blood magic, and more controlling the blight directly, which is different. It's the same thing that Cordyceps did in Inq, but on a WHOLE other level, given the Old Magister wasn't quite able to do it to the Blight itself, meanwhile, as we see in one part, the Top God of the Elven Pantheon was indeed able to do just that, down to controlling RAW blight, not inside someone, but just blight out in the world.

      It’s more a matter of Elgar’nan imparting that knowledge to them directly, since he probably knows how to control Darkspawn already and can just teach other people how to cast the necessary spells

    I'm not a fan of the Executor retcon. Having a secret third party manipulate events from the start feels cheap. It especially feels cheap knowing that every single villain in this series was being guided by them. Loghain went from a complex and nuanced character who betrayed Cailan of his own volition due to his extreme hatred of Orlais to being stripped of all agency because the Executors made him do it. It's just a weak way to introduce a new threat. And there's also the fact that everything we've done in previous games is rendered null. Ferelden, Kirkwall, and Orlais fall to the Blight, so all that time spent there trying to save those places now means nothing. That doesn't even get into the other retcons. What a disastrous story this is.

      To be fair, they said over and over that the HoF AND the Champion of Kirkwall/Gray Warden companion wouldn’t be in this game. This was back when the writers who created Dragon Age and Thedas were still working on Dreadwolf.
      The original intent seemed to be that the FINAL resolution of the story, or at least the story of the group of characters we’ve played as and with, would have been wrapped up in 5.
      But then BioWare fired all the original writers that were still employed there and they scrapped the story of Dreadwolf and shifted to what we got in Veilguard.

      Outside of estimations of years or “it happened at the middle of the first era” type logging. There is no confirmation date on the first time the black city was seen and when Arlathan disappeared. Also, outside of comments on reddit or rumors in games I have found no actual timeline showing that the black city existed before Arlathan disappeared. Some monks in a side corner claiming “the black city has existed forever” means nothing when you understand he is preaching his religion not history. Well this video was interesting.
    It confirms for me that they should have kept the name "dreadwolf"
    The whole veil breaking thing seems like a straight rehash of inquisition, but man, that true ending stuff and lore dump with solas and the elves and golden palace, thats pretty cool.
    The varric twist being the same as the mgs5 paz reveal is, eh, but sounds like it works a bit better here, still sucks but given it was solas who did it and that matters narrative wise, it sounds well done from the video anyway. Also the party being able to die and stuff, and one being straight forced to die is unexpected.
    However, I am glad i spent 40 minutes rather than dozens of hours or however long it took. Given the lore stuff seemed mostly finale based. Wasn't a fan of the full action game shift, inquisition was a nice upgrade to origin IMO.
    Then you have the overall writing quality, it just screamed "modern" which, i don't want in an old timey pre gunpowder fantasy world with high magic...the pixar/disneyfication bit seemed so over the top, it probably would have soured any cool lore dumps after hours of hearing it. Also wtf was with all those frumpy/short elves? Thats what dwarves are for.
    It really does seem like there was a good foundation, then the lead guy left, the project was thrown to the 'new age' types and we got a lot of bad writing with tidbits of goodness.
    Shame really.

      @@gavincarothers595 The ending of Inquisition, especially in Trespasser showed that his character was the same. He acknowledged that the current world has value, he also states that he knows he is going to kill millions. He's not happy about any of this, he's not closing his eyes to it either, and most importantly he's not making excuses. It’s why he doesn’t tell the Inquisitor ‘gear up I’m going to kill you and everyone’ he says ‘prepare for the apocalypse that is to come because I know you can handle the consequences.’
      In his mind he went from heaven to earth, while it's not hell it's still a vastly different landscape than heaven. He sees value in this earth, but it’s not where he believes he belongs. Listening to him calmly explain everything even when he has been wronged by the inquisitor shows an extreme control over his emotions. For him to go from that to him screaming “Your nothing but a mortal.” Is not only jarring but absurd.
      I want to point out:
      “Your nothing but a Mortal.” - Solas DA Veilguard
      “Your nothing but a mere Human.” - Ribbons Almark Gundam 00
      I wonder where they got the dialog from? I’m not joking here his character change and the way he talks is almost parody of Ribbons Almark, it’s cringe.

    Why would the Qunari army help the Elven gods? They virulently hate anything related to magic.
    Oh, right. If they didn't do it this way they would have been forced to go back to the series' old representation of the Qunari as alien, weird hyper-collectivist people involved in a really messy religious war with the Tevinter, and that's just too unpleasant of a depiction for modern gaming standards I guess. Everyone has to be fundamentally nice, and the poor Qunaris and Tevinter don't have any issues with each others, it's just those darn army men and a few bad guys.
    Why are the Venatori following Elven gods too for that matter? The Venatori want to bring back the old Tevinter Empire, they wouldn't care for the gods of their slave race that they plan to use only for blood sacrifices. Those people should be virulently opposed to anything dealing with Elves trying to raise their heads, divine or not.
    And what even are Veil Jumpers? Weird Dalish? Elven knowledge from the ancient times was supposed to be almost entirely gone and these people are just hopping between ancient technology?
    Oh, the Antaam, the body of the Qun, just comes out saying "the Qun is garbage"?
    Qunaris breathe fire now?
    Orzammar, the last remaining Dwarf city (we forgot about that other one anyway), all of Ferelden and the Free Marches are destroyed by lolwut Blights?
    The entire retcon with the Archdemons is just... I'm not even gonna comment on it.
    And they're setting up Dragon Age's own version of Andromeda too? 'Cause that went so well?
    As for the positives... I guess this necromancer Emmerich guy looks pretty cool, he seems the only actually likable companion in this whole thing.
    I can't believe it. They destroyed everything. There's nothing left. You can vaguely see the original backstory they made for the world, and maybe that was salvageable, but everything else...
    This game is so bad it made Trump win again, and I'm not sure anymore if that's a joke or the partial truth.
    I want Bioware to go bankrupt so they can never make another game again, and these devs get blacklisted and go working in retail. This is genuinely awful. The forced gender talks may be the best part of the game, because at least they're funny.

I see no valid reason why they introduced a new main character instead of the OG. You're telling me that my Inquisitor gave a badass speech at the end of Trespasser about how the Inquisition is now disband and how he and his team are going after Solas, only for him to go fight dark-spawns as a side character somewhere while Varic, Harding and a random dude name Rook take center stage??

      @@easternlights3155 I actually don't recall that. Nevertheless, it would be more, shall I say "impactful" if we carried over directly from the last game as the original team. Introducing a new character as the main and making side characters integral points kinda feels...cheap or forced..if that makes sense. It be tolerable if they at least gave the role Varic plays now to the Inquisitor, him leading and advising "Rook" but not dead as Varic is so that the romance sacrifice scene in the end would be possible. Granted they would have to rework the questline since Varic/Inquisitor wouldn't be dead or if dead, appear in spirit form or something. But what's done is done and I can't do anything about it.

      What did you think the whole " They put away their swords" thing Mother Giselle was talking about meant. Or when the Divine wrote " The Left Hand should lay down her burden." That's why Trespasser ends with either the Inquisition pairing down to a skeleton crew to serve the divine as a sort of honor guard or just disbanding entirely. All that before the Inquisitor says they need to finds somebody new and stabs his dagger into a map of Tevinter.

      @@Awaken_To_0 I understand your point, and I agree. Playing as the inquisitor might have been wishful thinking or a stretch on my part.. But I guess what I'm trying to say is that the way the new MC was introduced isn't as "smooth" as I wish it could have been, especially side-lining the inquisitor like that. As I stated in one of my comments, if they gave him the role that Varic plays in this with a few tweaks at the final mission it would have made an objectively "better" narrative in my opinion. It just feels weird seeing Varic and Harding take centre stage like that for me, idk why.. But I suppose given the other options, they were more flexible.

    So, Flemeth doesn’t make much sense, right? Morrigan essentially states that possessing Mythal’s soul does not make her immortal. So how did Flemeth manage to stay alive for so long? If the Flemeth we meet is indeed the same Flemeth from centuries ago, and if she inherited Mythal’s soul from previous vessels, then why is this Flemeth specifically immortal until Solas kills her? Isn’t this a pretty big retcon? Logically, Flemeth didn’t give Morrigan her consciousness or anything like that-just memories and a fragment of Mythal’s soul.
    Or does this imply that the Flemeth we meet might actually be a distant descendant who remembers the life of her ancestor and simply continues the name “Flemeth”? It feels like either a significant oversight in writing or perhaps yet another retcon. I also HATE the reveal that Andraste was just one of Mythal’s vessels. Why did they have to strip away any nuance around whether Andrastianism has some credibility, even in its basic tenets?

    • @BlackfangDragon
      @BlackfangDragon Месяц назад +4

      Solas killed Flemeth who had been gathering power because “I WILL SEE HER AVENGED!” had not been idle, she just did her part in the shadows and gathered what she could. Whatever power she had, and potentially even Junes soul after it was removed from Kieran, were things Solas took to complete his plans. Morrigan therefore got even less of Mythal than her mother did.

    • @Awaken_To_0
      @Awaken_To_0 Месяц назад +1

      @@BlackfangDragonExactly. Morrigan states that basically all she got were Mythal's memories.
      Even aside from that Ageless isn't the same as immortal. Even Flemeth could and did die in Dragon Age Origins, hence the whole need for the ritual in Dragon Age 2. From 2 onwards the Flemeth we see is more like a clone that grew from a starfish's arm then the Witch of the wilds that saved the Warden.

    • @lachlansmith8048
      @lachlansmith8048 Месяц назад +5

      We learn, all the way back in Origins via Morrigan's questline, that Flemeth has been keeping herself alive by transferring her essence into her daughters, i.e. Mythal entered Flemeth and was passed down to her daughters at which point the memories and personality of Flemeth seem to override that daughters identity, though we also learn from Flemeth that it's a choice she gives to her daughters, so that's how she lived for so long, it also leads to hilarity when you let Morrigan take the well of soul's power, because it makes her a slave to the elven gods, including her mother who she did everything in her power to escape.
      Solas killing Mythal is because he needed the power to start the veil-sundering ritual he begins putting together in the last Inquisition DLC, and finally starts in Veilguard, though admittedly it's handled awkwardly as it's just a throwaway line in Veilguard when Solas is pissed off at you for screwing the plan up the first time.

    • @SwobyJ
      @SwobyJ Месяц назад

      The Chantry continues to tell the story between its lines, perhaps even beyond what Solas knows. It just ever more obviously doesn't tell the whole story. Solas himself can entertain the idea that the Maker has worked through him (honest DAI banter with him), and the Fade is now written to reveal the occasional surprise miracle. The Chant was always a highly politically motivated and highly amended theology, but its never been disregarded as trash lore. Its just a wink from writers about the concept of religions providing an interesting and abstracted history, but not necessarily absolute concrete truth.
      Everyone's 'disproven' in Dragon Age. The Qun is set for future dismantling. Tevinter has had its second giant shock. The elves' case is thrown wide open. But they're all going to still have a role to play for the future. Elves aren't going to sit on their hands. Ideally, we'll have elves fracture into trying to salvage something of the Evanuris (room to still have stories like the theory of Sera connection with Andruil), or turn away from them even more entirely than the typical city elf, or be closer to Veil Jumpers and focus on constructing a new version of Elvenhan. Tevinter may be in for healing, but it also may be in for civil war due to a still entrenched enough owner class. The Chantry is only not immune to this tumult.
      This wasn't a game for mystery, just as DA2 arguably wasn't. They chose the name 'Rook' for a reason. Powerful, striving, but generally just moving forward. We got our big splashes and it'd be up to the next game to elaborate on how even our new assumptions aren't quite right, or may even be entirely wrong.

    The problem is they've written themselves into a hole now and i dont know how they will recover without some major retcons.. because they've basically just killed off all the main cast or those that are still alive are either lost or preoccupied. is this really gonna be the first time in DA that the MC comes back for a sequel as a playable character? cause thats kinda the only way this story can move forward..

    Heck, the Golden Ending is, according to the devs, with an altered line for whatever city was sacrificed, to be implying that the blight is now fully contained, and the bits of it out in the world, without a connection to the core of it inside the Black City, is dying off.
    That said, this is the same dev post that told us that the post credit scene WASN'T supposed to be implying that this group was behind all those events...despite, you know, that being the POINT of the scene.

Furthermore, it’s possible for the HoF to die in Origins by killing the Archdemon without Morrigan’s ritual.

    This...this genuinely hurts. Ten years we've been waiting. And we get this. This soulless patchjob identity crisis. They retcon the lore in ways that don't make sense, they rip apart established events and tell you that your choices -in a series whose claim to fame was in how your choices affected the world- don't matter, just hold on the rail and 'enjoy' the rigidly tracked ride. I feel like how solas must have felt having to help Wisdom die in Inquisition, or how Alastor must have felt waking up to find he and the Warden were the last ones left in Fereldon. Except those tragedies fit in the established world like a tailor made bespoke suit. This feels like something off the rack at walmart. I mean yeah it follows the barebones basics of a story but it certainly doesn't fit or look as the mannequins wear it.

    I was very curious about the story of the companions, but I understood why I didn't want to go into the subject in the video, anyway, very good video, thank you for being so quick to send it.

    So the endings are Sola goes into the fade, Solas goes into the fade with the inquisitor and Solas goes into the fade with you?
    …Featuring the super secret squirrel organization who was behind everything all along?
    So not only is this game ass, is makes every game prior to it mean completely nothing?!!

    The biggest crime was the death of Varric. I'm surprised he wasn't beaten to death with a putter.

    Wait, I think there is a mistake here.
    Blight is not necessarily a product of the titans.
    We discover that Red lyrium is "enraged lyrium" in the game (Harding missions), not blighted.
    It is likely that the "executors" blighted the enraged titans, fooling the elves. (Solas among the others).
    So we have "enraged lyrium" and "blighted lyrium". Two different things.

    Even though so many people criticize this game I still wants to try it because so many people with so many opinions, even my friends who never played any of the dragon age games tried veilguard and they actually enjoyed it 🤔, so that's why despite veilguard goods and bads I still wants to give it a try,oh and also put Solas into the ground 👿.

    I have never seen a post game teaser for extra content undermine the story so much. They managed to tie up the mysetry of the vale and the elven gods/maker perfectly. Then they fucked it all up.
