    You are the most articulate, clear, intelligent guy, who know his stuff. Have followed your RUclips videos since first started creating them.
    I’m a speech pathologist, who has bilateral, severe , sensorineural hearing loss.
    You’ve changed my life for the better.
    The BEST PRACTICE checklist… brilliant.
    Keep on keeping on
    And please lose the beard. 13:40

    My wife waited a month for a referral to an audiologist through her doctor. They canceled the day before. I bought a set of Audien Atom for her and she loves them. The hearing aid industry is starting to feel like the used car industry but not in a good way. Is this a good replacement for a professional audiologist? Maybe not. But I could test every brand of over the counter hearing aids and still spend less. I think the industry screwed itself with predatory practices. Just saying.

    Question for Dr. Olson: Do you think hearing aids will ever be able to significantly improve distortion or do we have to wait for a treatment that grows progenitor cells?

    Dr Cliff thank you for the information. Thankfully I found a best Practice Clinic half an hour from me . I'm on Medicaid but I was able to save up a little money hopefully to cover an evaluation . I know it will be worth it

    Got the Starky Genisis AI 24. Like the hearing aids and are hearing better. What finally made me get them was tinnitus. I have a frequency hearing loss, normal talking frequencies were okay. Had ringing tinnitus for years and was largely habituated. Sudden onset morse code tinnitus in just the left ear got me into as ENT. Had MRI - okay and got hearing aids from an audiologist. They help on the tinnitus somewhat. An actual effective tinnitus treatment that cures or significantly lessons it is what is really needed, assuming no treatment of restoring the nerve hair cells in the cochlea is possible.

    I’m an experienced user with a S2P bilateral loss and am not an easy ear mold fit. When I contacted my area Hearing Up best practices provider to potentially purchase and set up Real 1 RIC’s with 105dB acrylic molds I was informed that they did not have a digital scanner and did mold impressions the usual way. Would they still be considered to be best practices providers?

    Kind Sir...3 months ago; I new NOTHING about "Hearing Aids". But I knew my hearing was bad; because I am going to be 92 yrs old, this April. So I began to search the RUclips's; about "Hearing Aids". And I probably have viewed over 60 videos!
    During that time; I went to "Costco" that markets "3 Hearing Aids". And the Sr Technician was wonderful. So I finally opted the "Jabra Pro 20". And it made my ears hearing things clear; like before I was age 20. Really! But a major problem; that he can't fix. IE:
    When I'm in a place with no people talking making noise; I can hear awesome clearly. But when there's noise; I can't hear any thing they are saying; Because of that noise is awful! Like the noise in Costco, etc.
    And I'm told there is nothing; that can be done, at my age! Now I said all the above; to say this...Do you know something that I can do? Thank you kind Sir. You seem VERY intelligent with Hearing Aids!

    • @DrCliffAuD

      What is your speech in noise score? Also, are you using any additional accessories to improve your Signal to Noise ratio?

    • @MrPatdeeee
      @MrPatdeeee 11 месяцев назад

      @@DrCliffAuD Sorry, I know nothing about scores*. So I bought an Android phone and it's APPS give us features; to cover the noise, etc. But with loud noises it does VERY little. So I called the Technician and he said that the new Phillip's Hearing Aid may be better.
      But he wants me to use mine for several weeks. Because my brain might change, etc. For what it's worth Kind Sir. LOL
      * Are you talking about the Tests; when it shows "X" and "0" of, different HZ's, from 200 to 8,000 Hz's. If so, my ears are WAY down, in the higher HZ's.
      Yet my Hearing Aid, does raises it up. But then the NOISE goes higher too. And way VERY high; when I go into places. Sadly, but OH so True. Thank you so much kind Sir for replying so fast.

      Cliff wants to know if the AuD or dispenser performed a noise test for you like quick sin. If so What was that score. If not Ask your Dispenser or AuD to perform A QuickSin test.

      From there that will tell us if you should get a remote mic..are you using Domes or molds. There is things that can be done to help with background noise.

    • @qhew
      @qhew 11 месяцев назад +1

      this is the very problem we’re all trying to solve, but is NOT being solved. he wants to hear speech intelligence. he doesn’t need to hear all the background noise at super amplification when there’s no voice. the aids aren’t solving the issue. may i suggest how to improve the signal to noise ratio for speech intelligence. move the microphone (s) closer to the speaker (ie lapel worn), wirelessly xmit the high s/n speech from to the aid (via bluetooth rather than cords for convenience). the ext mikes should be cheap “throwaway” types, in case of loss. sure, extra work in that you need to choose person(s) you wish to converse with in group & fit them with lapel bluetooth mikes. you risk loosing the mikes by forgetting to retrieve when finished. with latest low power bluetooth, you should expect long battery life for the remote mikes. this technique is widely used in blogging for best audio in noisy environments. i ask for audiologist’s view on this & if there’s any downside. i don’t currently wear aids, though at 81 & with 60-70db loss mostly > kHz, am a candidate.
      I also like to mention when an audiologist says “i can’t better your adjustment“, there is no comeback - one just has to believe him. yet another one may do better adjustment.

    I started out, looking just before the new year shopping hearing aids after watching many of your videos getting info questions to ask doctors only to find out I really I didn’t have a choice in the matter! No substitutions even though other brands are featured on their website.
    The professionals like yourself with their prescriptions of what you need not what is available certain technologies they won’t allow you to shop as a consumer to save money and I’m sure you don’t work for free when someone purchases online ?products .
    Even with the best insurance coverage and best hearing aid technology & their prices are triple the online prices including service. Cost for top of the line hearing aid is 6k to almost $9000
    What am I doing wrong in my journey?

    My audiologist performed just a PT audiometry and fitted the Audeo lumity Hearing aids accordingly. No other tests were performed. I had to visit clinic 3 times for reprogramming and tuning later. Will have to visit again as sound is not balanced on both sides. It is not the best practise to follow right?

      Yes, surgery to repair the eardrum, or a bone anchored hearing aid, or regualr hearing aid.

    Dr. Cliff, I wish you were in California. Can you recommend anyone in the Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, CA area? I have yet to get my hearing aid because I want to make a good decision. Also, my audiologist, who says I have Otosclerosis and Tinnitus, said that surgery could cause permanent hearing loss and loss of muscle strength in my face. I am very frustrated because when I looked at RUclips videos from people who have Otosclerosis, the results were iffy (often not good, or some were okay, and many had to have more than one surgery). Please let me know what your thoughts are.
