If he wasn't given a best-VA-performance-in-videogames-history award, he should (PD: not just as Shulk, but the guy even voiced two other chars in the same game, AND another char in XC2, and manages to make all sound similar-yet-different, which is perfect given who they all are, not many VAs can do that).
Man, Shulk's screams of pain at 2:28 from the Monado are legitimately bloodcurdling. Like, I can't imagine a human making those kinds of noise without being in actual pain, which is what makes it such tremendous voice acting that it's so convincing.

I know it's obvious, but the animation is SO much cleaner in Future Connected compared to the base game, and hell even Xenoblade 2. Just look at how clean his flip is on 5:30
It's really good use of the Follow Through principle of animation. While in the air, Shulk first moves his body closer to his legs in an upside down V shape, then his legs spring around into a flip which propels the rest of his body followed by his sword into a strike. it looks neat
His screams are just so RAW. He puts his all into every one and you can feel it. Listening to them back to back like this just makes me think how much it must hurt to belt out like that. I can only imagine what it was like in the recording booth.

Skye Bennet, voice of Pyra and Mythra, went into it once but basically the voice direction was extremely rushed for the main game. Direction is very frequently the thing that kills a lot of performances in these sorts of projects.

Sometimes I forgot how good the voice acting is especially for Shulk because I sometimes think about THAT scream used in various memes like the yoinky sploinky I want to become a voice actor and put my heart and soul into every performance
Adam Howden has an anime scream on par with some of the greatest legends; guys like Sean Schemmel and Mark Gatha. This is on top of the fact that he has some real acting chops. Makes me wish he had a role in an actual anime dub.

Don't get me wrong, XC1's voice acting is good and all, but honestly it was carried by the fact the British accents weren't used often in dubs, and also by Adam Howden's fantastic battle cries and screams. Outside of those two things the dub's quality varies pretty heavily. But man did Howden put in 110%.
I played xc2 first and then played DE and my god what happened? did they replace the casting and voice directors in xc2? cuz the voice acting in 2 was literal trash when compared to 1 especially rex and pyra/mythra vs shulk and fiora, i couldn't take it after chapter 2 i had to play it in Japanese and im so glad i did.
From what I've heard, the voice cast for 2 were given the script, but not the cutscenes. So, they had no context for how the lines were supposed to feel.

For some reason, the part where he goes from angry, to sad about Fiora, and then to angry again gives me chills every time.

If I remember correctly, not only was there not much direction for the English dub, but I think each line got like one take.
