Stats over the set+1/3 Psycho 13 Winners: 3 serves, 7 forehands, 1 (lucky) backhand, 1 overhead, 1 drop shot 15 Errors: 7 forehands 8 backhands; 7 returns, 2 3rd ball, 1 4th ball, 5 rallies Points 25 Winners: 5 aces, 6 serves, 6 forehands, 4 volleys, 3 overheads, 1 drop shot 25 errors: 10 forehands, 9 backhands, 5 volleys, 1 overhead; 5 returns, 3 3rd ball, 6 4th ball, 11 rallies (Disclaimer: Psycho's forehand power can turn some of D1P's "errors" into opponent winners.) Of the points shown, there's only a marginal difference (40-38). "D1 points" is the shot maker and breaker (50-28). Presumably the not shown double faults add to the equation. Neither player scores points on backhand (except the lucky net shot by Psycho), which is quite remarkable. Psycho runs around it a little more but both make relatively many errors on backhand so the W/E on backhand show a clearly weak shot for both (psycho's 1HB looking comparatively weak technically). D1P does 8 points better on serve and 2 on return. His net play can improve, with 5 errors on volley, not quite forced though Psycho often made him dig deep. Apart from the difference in serve/return win ratio, I feel that if either player forces the forehand to backhand pattern in the leftie/rightie setup, they could topple the stats in their favor. One has to shout out that rally at 9:53
Looks like it's fairly even match from the stats. I do think Psycho had some opportunities to take the lead in the first set. Sounds like the key to winning this match is to overpower the opponent's backhand. Both of these players have the skillset and power to do so. Both are also excellent at making it difficult to target their backhands - especially Psycho. Thank you for the excellent stats and observations once again as the players and viewers enjoy reading them.

Division 1 Tennis Psycho is way better than what I anticipated. It was definitely an eyebrow-raiser when I heard he competed in the Easter Bowl, and he played pretty good in your match, but it didn't fully highlight his skill, until this match. Division 1 ATP was just stellar, great game from both players and great match.
I agree. I couldn't push Psycho and make him play his true game like D1 ATP did. I would say both players brought out each other's best game in my opinion.
Those guys hit a hard ball. Feel like I’ve seen a lot of lefties lately. He sure was pounding it at his backhand with that lefty forehand. Top level play.
Some aspirational play from both guys, for many of us :) Psycho's inside-out FH & super comfy backhand slice, lefty's serve & consistent groundies on both sides... really high quality stuff for many of us amateurs / weekend players. Would love (hate) to face either in a tourney!
After watching the first four points, I predicted that gray shirt would be bageled. Surprised he got as many games as he did. Blue shirt is a devastating player.
Gray shirt has a strong forehand and serve that is tough to counter. As you implied, blue shirt is a very strong player and was able to counter gray's weapons.
One of the best matches I've on your channel. Competitive and skilled players. D1 is an excellent player. Psycho is a tad worse. Both have excellent games and they go all out. Thanks.

Atp has superior service placement and always has the upper hand in the rallies. Never let the control slip away. Nice to watch psycho, very good movement and blasting forehand. But atp is clearly another level.
Good observations. I agree. I think Psycho had a slight opportunity to take the lead in the first set but ATP raised his game and hit some nice serves and forehand when he needed to.
Regarding the second set, he chose the nickname Psycho for a reason. Good question if clay would benefit Psycho more. It might as the ball speed may be a tad slower and bouncer a little higher which will benefit Psycho’s fh. I also think it would benefit D1 Points also as he grew up playing on clay.
Blue shirt has a great all around game. Grey shirt was a little inconsistent with the unforced errors, especially on the backhand side but I like his aggressive style. I'm guessing the second set went to a tie-breaker? Hehe ;)
Psycho was a fighter. He hit a lot of heavy and crazy forehands, keeping himself in the points. Brazilian player is technically far superior, and has a great vision of the game, always well placed in the court, and high level of anticipation. Nice to see a brazilian in this channel, I'm from Brazil too.

I’m not saying this because blue shirt is a compatriot of mine, but he seems to have much more to show than what he did. I think he played in a recreational pace. Had he pushed a little bit harder the match would be completely different.
I do believe that the level ATP plays today is unlikely to be the same level he played when in college and playing Futures. Back then, I’m assuming trained everyday for many hours. My guess is he is probably not doing that today.
I usually do well against lefties as they always serve to your backhand especially on big points. That is my best return. I actually struggle far more when they kick high to the forehand - luckily they do this quite rarely!
The real advantage is being aware and accustomed to that advantage. Because it's totally symmetric - except perhaps that a lefty has it on the more critical ad points and the righty on the deuce points. In this match, ironically, when watching it again for leftie-rightie patterns, it occurred to me that Psycho was more aware of it and tried to re-establish the pattern in his favor, by slicing backhand down the line (3:33 and 3:53). Point's guy just has a better serve and very good placement indeed.
@@knotwilg3596 oh I would agree completely. It’s also more the spin of it too. People aren’t usually accustomed to the way the ball spins and it makes it much more difficult. Even as a lefty I struggle against other lefties. I’m used to the right handed spin and having to adjust to a different spin is always difficult.
That’s a tennis of high quality, Rafa won because of his consistency, big serve and big forehand; well played by both. I wonder why the second set had a premature ending...
Wow. Great Tennis indeed. Tight match with only 1 break ahead. Both are excellent players. Even though Blue won, I personally was even more impressed by Grey. That's because of his half volleys from the baseline. Baseline half-volleys are really difficult to hit consistently, especially against an opponent like Blue and inside a match. Blue has a great serve and is capable to place those precisely with extreme angles. Both are confident at the net and over head. Both have excellent ground strokes, but I like grey's more because of his plain flat killer forehand. BOOM. Blue on the other hand was more consistent overall (in my view) which I think brought him this narrow victory. One fantastic dropshot by blue with the ball jumping backwards. This match was on pro level. Lots of eye candy there.
I wonder how much harder does a player have to hit to do well on the pro level. These two are lights out with their forehands. The tennis balls were useless when the match was over. Impressive stuff.
Grey shirt wins due to coming to the net and better stamina in the second set. Blue shirt was fatiguing and getting sloppy in second. Clay match grey shirt wins. Hard court blue shirt wins if stamina holds up... great match actually.
