Since I was sleep deprived dealing with a sick baby when I filmed this I totally forgot to mention it, but this is the first video with a new setup, so let me know what you think of the video/audio and if you have feedback!
Oh man, too may good choices there. Three Musketeers is one of my all time favorites. I've read a few of the others, but I'd love to read more classics (it would give me an excuse to read several I own, but haven't gotten to).
Good list! I think you should read Morte de Arthur, Robinson Carusoe and Candide
The Illiad has my vote, there is a free audio narration by Ian McKellan! I read most of the classics on your list! 🫠
Three Musketeers would be my second choice. Jules Verne is super! Journey to the Center of the Earth was also really entertaining too if you pick 20,000!
Oh that sounds like that would be a super cool audio! Yeah I'm extremely under read in classics lol
Arabian Nights, 1984, and Frankenstein are my votes.
I'd recommend Dracula, Inferno, and The Phantom of the Opera. With regards to the last one yes, it is more of a detective procedural type of story and doesn't put much emphasis on the love triangle aspect as the musical. However I still enjoyed it and consider it worth the read.
Thanks for the recs especially with Phantom! That's always been one I've been very curious to read to have hung onto my copy lol
Exciting buddy reads, hopefully my mood allows me to join in some of the fun :))
As for the classics, I'd say The Arabian Nights, Dracula, and The Illiad!!
@@esmayrosalyne Would love to have you along!
Dracula gets my vote. If you read Frankenstein last year it makes sense to me to follow it up with a good pairing.
Does seem like it's a sensible choice!
Yes! I adore the Tales of Durand Col, been trying to pitch it (unsuccesfully) on booktube forever, my goto hidden gem. Just fantastic cosmic horror combined with a classic knights tale. Hope a lot of people join the readalong (and enjoy it 😅)
@@mathiasblikstad8424 I love to hear it! I've been wanting to do a buddy read to hopefully shed some light on it, it really does seem basically unknown!
I read them last year after snooping on APs old shelf and seeing them. I thought it had an Arthurian feel with the quests and magic. But they do read fast.
Oh and I forgot to mention but the Decameron is not erotica, though it does have erotic scenes (for 1350). The sex stories I recall are typically more meant to be ribald comedy (also it's a pretty funny book overall.) It actually influenced Canterbury Tales and has a similar setup but is about a bunch of nobles holing up in a villa while the historically real Black Death is happening and telling tales to pass the time. I think that edition you have might have McWilliams' translation, which is generally considered one of the best.
Well that's good to know on both counts!
Of the classics the Hemingway collection would get my vote.
I am interested in The Tales of Durand buddy read but I’m not sure if I can squeeze it in or not. I’m working on Sun Eater and Kallattian Saga right now so that’s going to be taking up a lot of my reading time for a bit. Plus I know I’m going to be picking up Gatebound (don’t judge me!) when it comes out at the end of February.
Also I think the new setup is good 👍🏼
Yeah I'm very late announcing lol, but will be happy to have you join if it works out! I am very curious on Hemingway! You'll have to let me know what you think of Sun Eater (need to get to it still) and Kallattian!
@@nikosbookreviews I’m on book three of Sun Eater and really liking the series so far. Book one had its problems but book two was a big step up imo. I enjoy Ruocchio’s writing and find the protagonist interesting but I do see people complain about how melodramatic he is so I’m curious to see if you’ll jibe with him or not. I’m only at 28% in Deathless Beast but it’s going well so far, things are still getting setup.
Ben loves Tale of Two Cities, so that’s my vote!
I am very curious to read that one!
Have Dracula and Frankenstein in one book and have been meaning to read for a while.
I tried Tale of Two Cities in 10th Grade English, but I literally could not read more than a few pages before falling asleep. But Cliff Notes got me a B.
For whatever reason I never had to read many classics on school, some sure, but most of the ones I did read were my own choice, which I think helped. Frankenstein is nothing like I'd have expected lol, but I had a good time. Dracula I feel like is a big one I'm surprised I never tried
I’ve had to read The Iliad five times. Too much.
That is a lot of times lol
