I knew a guy who would make people sign the land he discarded that killed them. Became very intimidating when his board had more signed lands than not.
The sad part is I knew a guy who had deck around this boy and he didn’t even try to run damage buffers. He’d throw 20 lands away, add them back, then toss them away again. And it won decently often.
Gruul isn't a dumb player. He is very smart. He understands dead people don't draw cards, so they bash you 8 times against a mountain until you stop moving. That is actually pretty clever.

I remember the first time that a friend of mine showed me a deck that was a 'Guaranteed Turn 9 Lethal', and at first, I thought that he was joking... The deck was literally 98 Lands and Snake Umbra with THIS as the Commander. I thought that he was bricking, but nope- He was loading the battery and hoping to draw into it after boldly going down to THREE for infinite_ammo.jpg

I almost decked myself out before I could murder the table because I wasn't paying attention to this dude's board state. I had to instinctively murder that guy before the others after I was already midway on beating another guy with a mountain and some trees
Fun(?) fact: Borborygmi (yes, real word), are the gurgling noises that intestines make. I cannot abide the physical embodiment of bubble-guts attaining "Can get it"-status.
Someone who would eat dirt and swallow anything coming their way while being built like a shithouse cannot get it? I would only refuse service if he would not at least clean his parts up a bit. And nowhere in Gruul does it say they do not clean. Nature is a bit grimy, yes, but fire/lightning can burn so good...I mean disinfect.

It was always true that to "name" a card you were only ever required to "unambiguously identify it", any sufficient description of the card has worked since way back. You never needed the actual name. The actual issue with Borbor was that the original from Guildpact had the exact full name "Borborygmos", so the argument was that if you named exactly "Borborygmos" you HAD identified only one specific card in "Borborygmos" and therefore not the "Borborygmos Enraged" that people actually played. This was previously a problem with "Vedalken Shackles" (an artifact always just called Shackles) and "Shackles" (an obscure enchantment). The actual "Borborygmos rule change" was that there needs to be "no possible confusion" even if what you named is a full card name, and if there is any uncertainty both players have a duty to "immediately clarify" it. In practice, it means that now the Namer has the hammer if the opponent doesn't confront an ambiguous name. If there's any reasonable disagreement about a name, the Namer gets to "clarify what they meant to name" at the time the disagreement is brought to light, to their advantage.
Do not make the mistake of believing the Gruul player is a dumb player. They have the capacity to not only play more lands and creatures than you, this color combination allows them to dispense an inordinate amount of land destruction and burn. Also they're really fond of giving all of their creatures Haste by setting things on fire? I'm not sure why, it started back in Invasion... When you have time, please roast Meren of Clan Nel Toth because I just lost to them and I hate them now.
The most annoying shit a friend of mine did was in a 1v1 commander game, he played Meren and looped spore frog for the sac trigger every turn, bringing it back each turn so you couldnt deal combat damage

Borborygmos player in my pod was targeted with Scheming Symmetry. Tutored up a Grafted Exoskeleton. Everybody lost to poison damage the following turn... Brutal.
Ah, I miss my Borb deck every now and then. It was made entirely for the memes, 69 lands, and Morbius was just released so I obviously called the deck Borbius. Every damage doubler I could get my hands on, and I'd Borb all over the place once every ten games, but it was great throwing a land at something for 12+ damage. "What's that do?" "Stops-" "alright, imma chuck a rock at it"
don't forget snake umbra so you can just keep yeeting lands and drawing, depending on how many lands you draw, its a 1 turn combo on 3 players if you have enough lands in the deck
For me it's Grand Warlord Radha. "Listen, I have to attack to make mana, it's just how the deck works, no hard feelings." "Oh look, an 8 drop on turn 4" "hey, check out my 6/6 token army. Guess how much mana they make when I turn them sideways." Great memories once of a full-bore Trostani deck with Karametra out too just having absolutely nothing on Radha's velocity.
Grafted Exoskeleton loses to Fiery Emancipation. And I did the math: One turn, x3 burn: 27 damage One turn, Poison: 3 Poison Second turn, x3 burn: 27 damage (dead) Second turn, Poison: 6 Poison (still alive) Thus, it takes twice as long to kill an opponent with Grafted Exoskeleton than it does with Fiery Emancipation.
@@schwindelier1449dude it's 3 per land x3 so 9 per land. So if you yeet 3 lands a turn it's 27 dmg vs 3 poison a turn. So for around the same amount of mana it's more cost efficient to go dmg doubling rather than poisoning.
@magicalmadness It's not 1 poison per damage though. Infect turns the damage into poison counters at a 1-to-1 basis. So the math is 3 poison per discard vs 9 damage per discard.
I played a 4 person commander game against someone who had this card. Right before my 5th turn they killed all of us at instant speed. There was like 100 health they had to go through total, and they just combo'd their way to a billion mountains that they then threw at us.

While I again beg for Aura Mommy Eriette, I will say that this is indeed landfall; your land falling on the heads of each opponent. This is the deck that makes Crucible of Worlds an unholy unit.
My buddy has a joke deck he made called 86 BoBo. It's 86 Lands, Borborygmos Enraged, and dig for Abundance and Snake Umbra. Now Bory has "Whenever I deal damage (at all. period.) I draw a card, but oh, instead I'll just dig for a land and put it in my hand. Oh hey, this land looks neat. Unrelated, could you taste this for me?" before shoving said land down someone's life total, starting the process again. And if they try and react once the combo has started, he's got like 6 more lands in hand to dump in response (one at a time) to bury them before their removal can resolve, because reducing to someone to 0 life is the same as countering their removal spell.
I ran Borborygmos Enraged in the 99 of my Hansk, Slayer Zealot deck. I’d draw a chunk of my deck, swing various creatures at opponents, play Borborygmos, then threaten murdering people in response to trying to undo my battlefield or win.
I miss the old pioneer deck with this fucker. Ramp to Possibility Storm, cast one of the OG Eldraine Adventure sorceries, the only other sorcery in your deck being Enter the Infinite. Put Borby back on top, cast Ballista x=0 to flip into Borby, discard all the lands
The scariest bit about land-hater commanders is that there’s always a chance these bastards have Crucible of Worlds. As long as this guy keeps doing combat damage and you have plenty of lands to discard, it’s just a convoluted way of extending your hand to the graveyard because there’s little to no consequences with that thing on the board. Add a sacrifice outlet for lands somehow and you have a recipe for disaster.
