Hidden away in the woods, you'd never guess it was there. A wonderful railway. The diesel loco reminded me of Indian Railways locos, and the location, once the trees are all in leaf, could pass for Trivandrum, given a very hot day.
A great film as usual. I'll check out the cab rides later.

Thank you very much for watching! I agree its seems so far away from anywhere, let alone being in suburban London! I always love a railway with locos that you won't find anywhere else.

it is not actually far from anywhere because its at the lido which is absolutely heaving in hot weather and quite busy in spring and autumn. There is a large steak house which looks across to the railway and a large beach right by the terminus. I used to go at first with kids as you could swim safely and great beach plus the railway. later i went because the surrounding woods and hills are beautiful also walks around the large lake and of course a large car park. You can walk for many miles through beautiful countryside from there.

Thank you for watching! I Remember visiting that steak house as a child. In more recent years I've enjoyed many walks in the surrounding woods.

Hi, I was born in Northwood, Middlesex. As long as I live Middlesex will exist. Recently, my Sister died. We went to register her death and the conversation regarding Middlesex happened. I told her what I told you that as long as I am alive Middlesex will exist. The registrar actually put Middlesex on my sisters death certificate. It must exist as I have Middlesex on my birth certificate. I used to walk, with my mother, over Haste Hill, from Northwood to Ruislip Lido. I have bathed several times there when I was a child. It used to be packed out on a sunny day. I worked for Kodak Ltd; Kingway, London, when I left school in 1961. I travelled with my sister and others on the Metropolitan Line. We would fill one of the old brown carriages. They had the manual door with the leather strap to open and close the window. Lovely memories.

The 12" Gauge railway closed in 1984 and was replaced by a 2' gauge railway which closed in November 1996.
