I'm 33 and it's truly so validating (and humorous) that as we get older, so many of us develop a sense of borderline-hedonistic truths. It's not about being selfish but realizing that happiness or contentment is a wave that only we have the potential to control despite the outside influence that might be telling us to lean into something else.
I spent the afternoon talking about this with my mom today! I’m 36 and she’s 62. She still feels bad for being “selfish” and taking care of herself and her peace.
I'm getting there too. Yes... we have to care and be informed about every little thing wrong in this world. But sometimes you're allowed to not read too much about it. Happy citizens function better for everyone around them.

I totally feel you. I've been living in Paris for 14 years, and in the meantime I've moved cities and I'm kinda in my "stable" phase now. I used to live alone for the first couple of years, then with my brother for the last 8 years, and now he's moving out tomorrow to the UK. I thought I got used to the fact that relationships are temporary here since all my friends here move back to Korea (I'm Korean btw) at some point of time. I enjoyed living with my brother for a long time, but now that he's leaving I can't help but to feel a big hole in my heart that this is another chapter that's about to end, and I am back alone. As I observe my entourage slowly grow out from our twenties-get married, have children, switch jobs, move back to their hometown, I find myself asking what's waiting for me and what am I ready to do. I resonated with you in that: sometimes I feel left out, and I'm afraid that maybe I'm not taking life as serious as they are and I'm missing out on major life decisions. But then hey, everyone's path and journey is different and everyone have different paces. My life will look different to everyone else's. This is my book to write and finish. I need to remind myself that every once in a while.

That's one of the things that make the reflections so special imo - I think it is ok to be "fine" sometimes, it can be very stressful to always excel at everything. Sometimes you just gotta allow yourself to be average and focus the excellence energy when it is necessary and still appreciate the beauty of not being an anxious perfectionist (absolutely not an advice to myself that I fail to follow too often). I’ve been living by the philosophy (if I may say so) that- why doing things halfway and be “fine” with the result when you CAN reach what you actually want and be happy with it, it might take more time but you’ll feel good about it. Lately I was falling into a bad habit of forgetting what was the purpose of it all, which YES is to have fun! So again, I needed this. It’s also funny because my birthday is in a few weeks too and I recently bought a tablet pen and let me say I’m not artist hahah but hey! sand paper interaction made me relate so much as i love laughing at those random miscommunications while away from home country. risky and random, but i do love getting haircuts at local places abroad as you never know what you'll get and you're forced to communicate somehow for that hour or so (extra points for shady alley, no english place)

I think you’d get a lot out of reading “Personality Hacker” by Dodge. They talk about fixations for each personality type and freedom is a big one for EP types. This book and podcast really helped me understand my wiring and see areas where I could improve and predict future existential crises. They also have a series of courses that I’ve started that are amazing like the Personality Life Path. Anyways, love the painting.

1. big canvas looks great. You could consider diluted gesso all over and start again using a 4-5 inch paint brush and the black. When your done have the canvas stretched! Maybe Purple girl can help! Get rid of the red painting above your desk…paint over it: turn 90 degrees, new gesso or grey and use black again. I like it!! You’re the best!

I think you’d get a lot out of reading “Personality Hacker” by Dodge. They talk about fixations for each personality type and freedom is a big one for EP types. This book and podcast really helped me understand my wiring and see areas where I could improve and predict future existential crises. They also have a series of courses that I’ve started that are amazing like the Personality Life Path. Anyways, love the painting.

Damon, my husband shares the same feelings as you when it comes to inactive people, who ruminate and over-think. I am someone who often gets too comfortable and stagnant, I fear failure and defeat and tell myself it won't workout or it's too much work before I've even attempted something. Luckily, he is very patient and constantly encouraging and pushing me to get out of my comfort zone, EVEN if it doesn't work out, as long as I'm doing SOMETHING

1. big canvas looks great. You could consider diluted gesso all over and start again using a 4-5 inch paint brush and the black. When your done have the canvas stretched! Maybe Purple girl can help! Get rid of the red painting above your desk…paint over it: turn 90 degrees, new gesso or grey and use black again. I like it!! You’re the best!
