thanks for showing that M6 TTL LHSA black paint, in user conditions, using mine even if it's a very valuable/collectible camera, i got the 0.58 viewfinder, only around 60 made, with leica vit and thumbgrip black paint. Plus the Hexanon 35 f2 UC, black paint and usper short.. best setup i could dream of, best looking m6 special edition for my opinion.
Enjoying these! You have actually inspired me to continue to make content. First video, in a white, went up yesterday! I wish my black M6 was brass but I do love it.
Love my Leica iA! According to Tamarkin Camera, mine was made in 1930. Thanks to good upkeep over the years, it still works perfectly. A very stripped-down photographic experience--just the essentials. Rumor has it that Leica put extra-good lenses on these early cameras to build the brand's reputation for quality.
I’m lucky to have a small collection of Leicas, three of them are black paint. The Leica M6 LHSA 0.72, MP with a Leicavit, and the new M11 Glossy Black Paint 😊
Oh nice, you got the new Glossy Black. How does the finish look? Is it basically Black Paint or does it look different? I know there’s always slight differences as you saw in this video
@@bigheadtaco The M11 has the same finish as the MP and M10R. It has less orange peel and is shinier than the M9 but less so than the M6 LHSA. I actually polished my black paint cameras using a microfiber towel and a light car polishing product from Rupes. This removed very thin layers of paint without exposing the brass. The finish is now much glossier, almost like piano black. As the paint is already thinner, I imagine this will also save some time spent on finger-rubbing action you mentioned. 😄
@@ItisBean ha ha, the things we do to brass our tools. I've been trying to brass my M7 Black Chrome, but I know it will take 20 years before I start seeing brass. I am loathe to take sandpaper to it though....
Haha, I know! I’d love to see brassing on a black chrome body-it would look amazing. You can try rubbing it with a microfiber towel and some toothpaste to get started! 😀
I think my M10-D is starting to show some signs of brassing. They made 1500 copies of the M10-D. My film MP BP born in2022 has a piano black shiny finish. It gets a long and hard rubbing every day. My 1958 M2 BP is definitely starting to shine through some golden tones.
It sounds like you need to find a black chrome Leicavit to match your M7! Oh and I would love if they made a “-P” model of the SL series, imagine an SL3-S that was all blacked out, that would be amazing.
No, I was referring to your question about whether there was brass in the first SL. There were videos at the time, showing the machining process (two pieces, if I remember correctly), all from aluminum. Maybe I misunderstood what you referred to.
The original Leicaflex film cameras from the 70‘s were first delivered as „black paint“ and were made of brass. Silver and black chrome versions came later then. Black paint was the standard issue not a special version like later on the M cameras except the M9-P were black paint came also as a standard. The 601 digital SL was machined from one single aluminium block while the SL2 is a two piece aluminium construction.
Yes the new M6 is very different from the original M6 for sure. The original was made at a time that Leica was really struggling, so they had to reduce production costs. The new M6 is made at the same level as the MP and M-A.
I wish black paint cameras didnt came out of style in the forties. Imagine there would be affordable BP M3, M2, M4, M6. With digital I don’t really see the benefit as much as I probably won’t shoot the same camera for more than a decade.

I couldn’t agree more! That’s a very nice setup you’ve got there. But I thought the 35mm Hexanon was made of aluminum.
@@Kohai82 thanks! yes it's aluminium, so it won't brass. But stil in amazing real black paint and very very compact.
I would love if @bigheadtaco reviews this models in a next videos!
@@belivmi me too, I don't any decent M6 LHSA review on RUclips.
@@belivmiI will review soon, thanks for watching!!
Black paint cameras are truly wonderful. Thank you for these daily doses of camera talk!
Thanks! I love talking about this stuff.
I recently picked up a 1929 Leica Model A Black Paint and a 1932 Leica II black paint. They are beautiful!
Those are amazing, congrats! So compact, basically pocketable, depending on the lens of course!

Awesome! Keep going. I was inspired by @jobsjournal to do daily. We all need each other to motivate each other!!

MD262 is a stunning example of black paint
I reviewed that 8 years ago. Beautiful camera!!

Ya I had the opportunity a few years ago, but it had a deep scratch so I passed on it. $500 CAD. I should have just got it :-(
The original SL was machined from billet aluminum.
You mean the film camera from 1964? I know there was a black paint version of the SL2, I just can’t remember when it came out.

Doesn’t the new Leica M6 come with a brass top and bottom plate?
Yes, but not black paint

@ Ah yes, that’s right.
Yeah I’ve a bit of a Leica black paint fetish. The m11 black paint version is just camera porn❤❤❤

Maybe, but the M9 is still very popular, and it’s 16 years old now. But I know what you mean.
Fujifilm, take note for the Xpro 4 or 5 black paint edition! 😉
100% X-Pro4 Black Paint please… or X100VI BP. They still have time
I’d like to see a titanium or Dura Black version as well.
They should make a black paint q3.

Fuji
Nice Fuji kit. Too bad no black paint though…. X-Pro or X100 in black paint would work well :-)
